When trying to think of a best of anything I believe that the first choice is the best choice. I have all of my favorites on my iPod which has over 1,000 songs downloaded to it, so I do have a lot to select from. It is pretty amazing that my first record collection were this 45 rpm vinyl records. They took up half my closet. Now I have 1,000 songs on a machine that fits in my hand.
It was however pretty easy to pick out the ones I like the best.
1) Favorite Singer – Natalie Merchant http://www.nataliemerchant.com
One of her best songs, “Wonder”. (Sorry Tam I could not find trouble me on You Tube.)
2) Favorite Song – “Sweet Baby James” by James Taylor, http://www.jamestaylor.com . My middle name is James.
3. Favorite Romantic Song – “When I Fall In Love” by Nat King Cole , http://www.nat-king-cole.org .
4) I try to do some dancing every day, it’s good for body and mind. I just have to remember to close the blinds on my windows when I do. 🙂
Favorite Dancing Song – From my disco days. 🙂 “Turn the Beat Around”. Here is the Gloria Estefan version:
5) The song that inspiries me the most is “Let the River Run” by Carly Simon, http://www.carlysimon.com
“It’s asking for the taking.
Trembling, shaking.
Oh, my heart is aching.
We’re coming to the edge,
running on the water,
coming through the fog,
your sons and daughters.
Let the river run,
let all the dreamers
wake the nation.
Come, the New Jerusalem. ”
Posters Choice:
A) One of Vinny’s, aka Brent (InWorship) , songs. “Turn Up The Radio” by Autograph, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autograph_%28American_band%29 . Kass and Kota (InCahoots) , check out the hair and threads on these dudes. Don’t ever let your father tell you that you dress funny. We won’t talk about my bell bottom days. 🙂
B) One of Deborah’s (Gods Gal) selections was “Your Love Amazes Me” by John Berry, http://johnberry.musiccitynetworks.com .
C) Darla (Overcomer) did not pick a song but said she liked to dance so here is “Locomotion” by Little Eve , http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Loco-Motion .
I’ll finish with another inspirational song that has stood the test of time. “Amazing Grace” by Judy Collins, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judy_Collins .

Judy Collins Amazing Grace has left me blubbering! It is my favorite hymn of all time – but this version I’ve never heard. The beautiful choir and intricate harmonies near the middle to end are captivating. No need for instruments the lyrics and melody speak volumes! The words give us so much Hope!
This has made my day and caused me to thank God, yet again, for redeeming Grace!
Thank you Ed for posting this!

Tam, what struck me about the song when I first heard it is that Newton, right at the beginning, acknowledges he was a “wretch”.
“How sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me.”
You may already know the backstory on the song, if you don’t, it was written in 1772 by John Newton as he reflected back on his life in the slave trade while in his youth. It is based on the Old Testament text in First Chronicles, Chapter 17, verses 16 and 17.
From Wikipedia::
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amazing_grace
“The lyrics are based on his reflections on the Old Testament text in First Chronicles, chapter 17, verses 16 and 17, adding his perspective about his life in the slave trade while in his youth. Although Newton acknowledge the beginning of his conversion to evangelical Christianity being linked to the near-death experience on the slave-ship the Greyhound in 1748, it was another episode of illness on the Brownlow where he served as a first-mate which made him realize the inadequacies in his life and professed his full faith in Christ

Oh Ed, I am definitely a wretch. I can be so vile and wicked in my thoughts and heart. I may not act on them (all the time 😉 But I am who I am. But for the grace and the hope of redemption I would have nothing to look forward to.
Lord, who am I that you would know my name? It is amazing to me!
It is remarkable to me that even Newton recognized this!
This is why I keep Romans 12:3 up on my blog as a constant reminder…
“…Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us.”

That is a high energy song Brent. Fortunately when I get pumped up it’s for dancing. I’ll leave the yard work to you.
