It could be because you are a Highly Sensitive Person

How I wish life could be simple for me.
My dear husband is my ideal.
When it’s cold, he shivers. When it’s hot, he sweats. And that’s it.
He does not break his head about why it is cold or hot. He does not question his reaction to temperature fluctuations. His environment does not influence his emotions.
He just takes life as it is.
I, on the other hand, am always busy trying to manipulate my environment.
Always adding clothing or taking some off. Always opening and closing windows. Readjusting the air conditioner in the car. Always fretting about not only the current heatwave, but also about the one predicted for next week.
But this is not only about weather conditions. It is about fundamental differences between my husband and me.
My reaction to anything that life throws us is ten (or maybe a hundred) times more intense and complicated than his.
For decades, I used to assume this difference to be my weakness and his strength.
This attitude was really not good for my (already nonexistent) self-image.
I would always be fretting about something, while he just continues with his life.
When he is tired, he sleeps (even just for a power nap in his chair at his computer). And he wakes up and continues with his work as if nothing had happened.
I would always be tired, but have trouble sleeping. I wake up grumpy, and it takes hard work and discipline to get going.
With him, everything seems effortless. For me, life is one huge effort.
And it’s not that I have an extraordinarily difficult life. I lead a very privileged life with nothing but first-world problems.
And still I struggle.
My perspective changed when I discovered I could be a Highly Sensitive Person.
A Highly Sensitive person is someone with a sensitive nervous system, known scientifically as Sensory Processing Sensitivity (SPS), characterized by deeper information processing, easily becoming overstimulated (overarousal), strong emotional reactions (emphasis), and sensitivity to subtle environmental details. (Dr. Elaine Aron)
