DIY Amigurumi Kit – Teddy Bear

Can’t believe it’s November already! And with the holiday season just around the corner, have you guys started planning your gifts yet? How about you sellers? Have you guys made your shop “holiday-friendly” yet? 😀

Well, I’m a little bit slow in getting my shop holiday-friendly but that’s only ’cause I have limited Internet access (which would explain my sporadic presence online ^_^ I’m waiting for the service provider to install high-speed internet in my home, which I’ve been told could be any time this month. Hopefully soon!!! >:D)

For those of you who would love to learn to make your own amigurumi doll, I now have a DIY amigurumi kit available in my Etsy store. The kit is based on my teddy bear pattern.

The kit is ready to ship as a gift as well, so it will make a nice present for your loved ones who wants to make their own amigurumi bear without having to bother with having to look for the materials 🙂

I’ll be making more kits like this one based on my other designs in the near future. Hopefully I can get them ready before the holidays! *keeping fingers crossed!!!*

p/s: Are you guys on Facebook? If you are, do pop by my FB page to say hello. I’d love to hear from you!

Zombie Jacknabbit asks, “Are you ready for Halloween??”

In conjunction with the upcoming Halloween, I made a zombified Captain Jacknabbit and threw in a homage to the iconic Freddy Krueger from Nightmare on Elm Street (thanks to that toilet scene, I still get scared sometimes when I need to pee late at night. Heheh ^_^)

I made him using radiant cotton yarn, which is silky smooth to touch. He stands about 23cm tall and was made based on my Captain Jacknabbit pattern. He’s currently looking for forever home to scare and is available for purchase here.

I am so thankful to be in a wonderful group of like-minded people who love to crochet and make amigurumi dolls. What would I do without my pattern volunteers?

Site Revamp, Pattern Testing and a Facebook page! *gasp*

Hi everyone,

After a long hiatus, I’m glad to finally be back. It’s been a crazy roller-coaster ride since moving back from Greenland back in June. Even though I was back in Malaysia, I was living at our other home in a different city, and with my dad being sick and all, that didn’t leave me much time to crochet (plus, I didn’t really have my crochet stuff with me then).

Anyway, I’m back in my main home in Borneo and ready to kick into high gear now XD

So, first things first. I’ve renamed my site as “Ami by Pots”. The previous name “Amigurumi by Ms Pots” was seriously a mouthful to say AND to type! I’ve had to rename my Etsy shop too –> http://amibypots.etsy.com

Second, I have a new pattern that is waiting to be tested. If you’re interested to test the pattern for me, you can check out the details of the testing here: http://www.ravelry.com/discuss/amigurumi-testers/topics/3291143

Lastly, I now have a Facebook page for my craft. Honestly, I never thought I’d get a page set up. As much as I’d like to stay away from social media (only coz I’m kinda like a hermit in real life ;P), I also see the necessity in having one. So if you’re on FB and wanna connect with me there, please do! It will make my day 😀

There are some exciting things coming soon, so I hope you guys will stick around for it. Til my next post, you guys have a great weekend ahead! xx

Crumb Sugar Cookie Lalaloopsy Doll

So, I secured my very first Etsy sale last weekend. I can’t describe how happy I am to actually be able to sell anything on Etsy. Previously, all the sales I made was only to my friends and co-workers on my personal Facebook page. So, to actually sell my toy to a complete stranger…. I am so grateful for the opportunity 🙂

My first Etsy sale is actually a custom order for a Crumb Sugar Cookie Lalaloopsy doll. To be honest, I was nervous about making this doll because I was never really comfortable in making doll hair. I just hoped and prayed that I had learned enough from the previous dolls I had made to make the hair better this time around.

Her hair is made of wool yarn

Her hair is made of wool yarn

So that meant, no more using cotton yarn for the hair (cotton yarn tends to weigh heavier than acrylic or wool yarn… and you really don’t want to put so much weight on the doll’s head especially if she has a small neck! 😉 ). And no stitching the hair onto the head (way, waaaaayyy too tedious). Fabric glue is a doll’s hair’s best friend 😉

If you would like to have the Crumb Sugar Cookie Lalaloopsy doll made for you, I have now made it available in my Etsy shop as a made-to-order doll.

Have a great week ahead and happy creating! 🙂

Rose Roxy Doll

One of the things that I love to do is browse around Etsy, Ravelry or Pinterest to see what people are making. Once in a while, there would be one designer that would make me go, “Ooh, I really have to make that!!”

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This doll is handmade by Amigurumi by Ms Pots from a design and pattern by Zabbez / Bas den Braver / www.zabbez.com

Sometimes I would be a little bit hesitant to commit to the purchase as a few times in the past, especially from designers I don’t really know of, some of the patterns might not be as “user-friendly” as I would like them to be. I’ve always preferred patterns to have lots of pictures in them, especially those that serve to compliment the how-to guides and so forth (Which is why I make it a point to add a lot of pictures in my own written pattern because I know how frustrating it can be to read a pattern and see the picture of the finished part and wonder “how on earth did you make that?”)

Oh. I’m rambling. Sorry about that.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I took her out to the sea side yesterday as it was bright and sunny outside, but accidentally dropped her in the snow. That’s what those white flakes are on her hat ;P

Back to the Rose Roxy doll I made 🙂

I thoroughly enjoyed making this doll because 1) the pattern was so well written and 2) the toy is super cute! She even has her own leaf bag which you can use to put her rose petals in.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Check out her rose cap. Pretty neat, eh? 🙂

Rose Roxy, who stands about 30cm tall, would make the perfect gift for those who loves roses (or flowers in general). She’s pretty soft and cuddly too 🙂

You may visit my Etsy store if you would like to have one made for you.

Sleeping Kitty Baby Blanket

So I’ve made this precious baby blanket for a friend. As it was for his baby, I opted not to use any safety eyes and decided to sew this kitty a pair of sleeping eyes instead.

Sleeping Kitty Baby Blanket

Sleeping Kitty Baby Blanket – measures about 38cm x 38 cm

Making blankets is a bit of a challenge to me in the sense that I have to remind myself not to pull the stitching too hard. I’m so used to making amigurumi toys where I have to make sure my stitches are tight so that the stuffing doesn’t come out.

Sleeping Kitty Baby Blanket

The first few rounds of the granny squares tend to look crooked *_*

I still need to work on a few more of these granny square-type blankets before I am fully satisfied with the results. The first few rounds of my granny squares tend to look more crooked than an actual square.

Sleeping Kitty Baby Blanket

Sleeping Kitty Baby Blanket

For this blanket, I used virgin wool from Easy Care. I often ponder about the type of material that would be best for babies. Would the material cause their skin to itch? What if they suck or chew on the blanket?

How do you guys tackle the material issue when making something for babies?

Captain Jacknabbit – Testing Completed and Pattern Now Available

I am so happy to share with you guys the toys made by my volunteers on the Captain Jacknabbit pattern. I have been so lucky to be able to have such a wonderful group of people on Ravelry who is willing to test out my pattern 🙂

This one here is done by wilmaelee. I love the colors that she used on Jack and not to mention, the kickass poster she made for her project *love* Isn’t she awesome??? 😀

A Successful Secret Op – The Making of X’Men’s Rogue

When my dear friend, Hanie, told me that her house had been broken into earlier this month and many valuable items had been taken, I set out to make her something as my way of cheering her up. I’ve never really been good with words especially when it comes to comforting people, so I thought I’d just do what I know how to do… which is to make a toy.

You see, Hanie, is actually a damn good artist and like any good artist, you must have your own toy made for you. I stalked her page like a crazy cat stalking its prey from a bush pondered for a couple of days and saw that she had used this particular drawing of hers on Rogue from X’Men as her profile pic in her Etsy shop.

Now, the making of the toy itself wasn’t too hard. And I so wanted to tell her as I was making this toy for her but I was also worried that it may not turn out so well, or I got distracted halfway and ditched the project altogether, so it was best to keep my mouth shut so that I don’t get her too excited and I don’t put myself under pressure.

IMG_4638

I was pretty much winging it as I was making this toy. That’s why you can see one side of the boots have stripes that look ok and one that does not.

But I was under pressure. You see, half way making this toy, one of her favorite writers had passed away (that writer happened to be the great Terry Pratchett btw. If you have never read his books before, well… I feel sorry for you). Prior to her house being broken into, we lost the great Leonard Nimoy. So yeah she was bummed, we were all bummed with all these sad news we’ve been getting recently, and this was the kind of fuel I needed to finish up this doll as quickly as possible.

2 things I didn’t enjoy while making this doll – stitching the logo and making the doll’s hair.

Trying to stitch perfect circles is hard to do!! >.<

Trying to stitch perfect circles is hard to do!! >.<

As a weave, I thought the hair was turning out ok. That is until I stitched it onto the head. I never realized what a slave I am to my craft until I did my doll’s hair. I mean, she even has more hair than I do!!

This way of making doll hair is too tedious!

This way of making doll hair is too tedious!

Anyway, she ended up having waaaaay too much hair that her head was tilting backwards (despite me having put 2 cotton swabs in her neck for support). So I removed a lot of her hair (and that in itself is another tedious work). Her head still tilts backwards a little bit but it’s bearable.

I showed Hanie yesterday what I made for her and I am so glad that she is thrilled and that she loves this doll Rogue. I was so relieved 🙂

I may make another Rogue doll to put up on my Etsy store, so before I ship this baby out to my friend, I’m gonna take notes on what not to do on my next doll.

Hope you guys are having a productive week 🙂

[Looking for Pattern Testers] Captain Jacknabbit, Pirate of the High Seas

[Update on 9th March 2015 @ 1.41pm]: Please note that I am no longer accepting volunteers to test this pattern as I already have 3 pattern testers from Ravelry. Thanks so much for your kind interest 🙂

Hi everyone!

I have finally completed my Captain Jacknabbit version 2.0 design and I am quite pleased with how he turned out to be compared to the first design. I made him from bottom up where his legs, body and head is done in one piece.

Captain Jacknabbit

Captain Jacknabbit – he stands about 23cm tall from feet to the top of his hat

I am now looking for 2-3 volunteers to test the pattern that I have written before I put up the pattern for sale in my Etsy shop. (p/s: My pattern is written in English using U.S. terminology)

Requirements:

1) Skill Level: Although you do not need to be an expert in amigurumi, I do however require that you do know the basics of amigurumi, such as how to crochet in magic ring (or adjustable loop), single crochet, double crochet, slip st, chain st, how to change yarn color, increasing and decreasing.

2) Materials:
You will need to use your own materials. This is what I used:

  • 2.0mm hook
  • Yarn: beige, dark brown, black, blue, white and red (I used 8-ply cotton yarn but you may use whatever yarn that you like or that is available to you as the gauge is not that important).
  • Embroidery floss: black
  • Safety eyes: A pair of 9mm safety eyes
  • Polyester fiberfill
  • Other necessities such as scissors, stitch marker, tapestry needle and pins.

3) Deadline: Selected volunteers will be required to finish the project within 2 weeks upon receiving the pattern via e-mail (the pattern will be e-mailed to selected volunteers on 14th March 2015).

4) What You Need to Do: Please follow the pattern written and take note of any errors such as spelling and stitch count. You will need to email me your feedback, such as errors, the size of your finished toy, pictures of your finished toy, if there are sections you feel I should add more photos in, what type of materials you used, hook size etc.

In return for volunteering, you will get the finalized pattern from me and my utmost gratitude. I may also put up photos of the toys you made with a link to your blog/website on my blog (just like how I did before with my Kitty Small-Ears pattern testers). (You may sell the toys made from my pattern as long as you credit me as the pattern designer :D)

If you are interested in testing this pattern for me, please drop me a note along with your email and/or website address through my Contact page. Alternatively, you can also look me up on Ravelry.
