“Ending theme post to follow… sometime, hopefully in December!”… meh, close enough. 😛 Happy New Year!
Here are my top 12 ending themes from anime that aired this year that I’ve watched – I had a hard enough time whittling down the list as it is, without looking into all the other unknown endings for anime I skipped! But if you do think I’ve missed out on any good ones, do share your own faves in the comments~
It’s end of year anime theme list time again~ In short, here are my top 12 opening themes from anime that aired this year that I’ve watched – but it’s entirely possible I’ve skipped some good series with epic OP themes, so please do share your own favourites in the comments!
Ending theme post to follow… sometime, hopefully in December!
Time for a manga post! An event that seems to only happen every 3 years or so nowadays, but I’ll keep it to a selection of the series that I read in 2025, as they’ll be fresher in my mind.
A full list of what I’m currently reading, or finished earlier this year, can be found here~
Temperatures are plummeting, clocks have turned back, and it’s getting very dark very early. Yep, summer sure has ended. Here are my thoughts on all the anime I watched that ended along with it!
Before each anime season, I make a shortlist of all the upcoming series I’m most interested in, based on their synopses, trailers, and any other information I’m able to gather. As long as they get licensed and translated, those anime will be the first ones I watch. Usually I get it right first time, though occasionally one or two don’t impress me, and end up getting swapped out for something else.
This summer’s shortlist may not have yielded any Übel Blatt or Your Forma level catastrophes, but I still ended up with three series that didn’t quite click with me after ~3 episodes. If anyone else did end up watching these to completion, I’d be curious to hear your thoughts, and whether you enjoyed them more than I did.
Last season, I highlighted three anime series that stood out to me half-way through; not necessarily the best shows airing, but ones that surprised me in one way or another and that (based on anime listing site stats) weren’t getting many views.
This summer, there’s really only one anime that fits even that loosely-defined criteria: the least watched series on my lineup by a considerable margin, Turkey! Time to Strike~
What an amazing anime season that was! It does help that there are so many to choose from these days, and that I’m no longer forcing myself to slog through the ones that I’m not enjoying.
So here are fifteen good series, starting with the flawed but fun, and ending with the the best thing I’ve watched since Steins;Gate and Nichijou shared a season back in spring 2011.
Trying out something different again! 2025 has been a difficult year for me so far, but one of the changes I’ve made to try and improve it is ensuring that I’m actually having fun during leisure time, after work and on days off. For example, I stopped playing MTG Arena about a month ago, the game that’s been a huge time sink since I joined the open beta in 2018. I haven’t enjoyed a lot of the changes to the game over the past few years, and playing had started to feel more like a routine chore than a fun pastime. Now that I’ve stopped I have a lot more time for other things. Might still dip back in when the new sci-fi set releases in August though, we’ll see. 😛
But back to anime – I’m also being way more proactive in dropping series that I’m not enjoying. Which might lead to boring end of season ranking posts, if none of the truly awful series survive long enough for me to see their endings, but that’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make for my long-term wellbeing! Instead, I’ll post about the anime I couldn’t bring myself to finish here. Only one from the current spring season, but I’ll throw in the one I abandoned back in winter too, because yeah, something that season annoyed me more than GoHands’ Momentary Lily, and that is an achievement worthy of recognition.
I’m trying something different, for the first time in many years – rather than just posting the usual mid-season rankings list of everything I’m watching, I’m instead going to highlight three anime series that stand out for me at this stage, and that aren’t already getting a massive amount of views (based on Anime-Planet, AniList and MyAnimeList stats). These aren’t necessarily my three favourites from the season either, but they all surprised me in one way or another.
End of season rankings posts will continue as before~
It’s official: 2025 sucks. But as ever, anime provides a welcome escape and distraction from the real world. Here’s what got me through the first quarter~
