East West or the Line 2 (Green Line) Metro (Sector 5 Saltlake to Howrah Maidan) crosses at a common station Esplanade of Line 1 (Blue Line) Metro or North-South Metro i.e. Kabi Subhas to Dumdum. Blue and Green metros Meet at this station which in simple language Esplanade is a junction station. By changing platforms one can go to Tollygunge or Dumdum or straight to Salt lake from Howrah. So there are 2 Esplanade stations at different level, one new (Green line) another old one (Blue line). New station is at dipper level and to reach there multiple escalators are to be used. Interestingly colours are used for directions to the platforms and line 1 and line 2 with sign boards.
LINE 1 BLUE LINE : North-South Metro – Kabi subhas to Dumdum.
LINE 2 GREEN LINE : East-West Metro, Sector V to Howrah Maidan

Green Line Metro of Kolkata currently consists of two operational sections from Salt Lake Sector V to Sealdah and Esplanade to Howrah Maidan by going underneath the Hoogly River. Sealdah to Esplanade yet to be connected. (Photo courtesy : http://www.themetrorailguy.com).

Underground 4 Stations of this section i.e. Esplanade, Mahakaran, Howrah & Howrah Maidan were inaugurated on 6 March 2024 and since then this route is operational in this section.
Today I have explored this Metro partially from Esplanade to Howrah Railway station, crossing underneath the Hoogly River. It takes few seconds to cross the river, when Blue lights are on to indicate passing through the river and reaches Howrah Metro Station which is the deepest metro station of India. From that level when you surface on the ground, with the help of multiple Escalators, you find the very known Old and New complex of Howrah Railway Station, in front of you. Both the sections are accessible from there.

Return Journey from Howrah to Esplanade (new) and then to Esplanade Old. Therefore we walked from Green line to Blue line and then to Exit gate. There are multiple exit gates towards “KC Das”, “SN Banerjee Road”, “Bidhan Market” etc. for your convenience.
Esplanade Metro station will be the busiest staion when Sealdah section (Sealdah to Esplanade) is connected to it.

Platform Screen Doors (PSDs) systems : A added safety measure, PSD systems are installed on the platforms for the safety of the passengers. The PSDs are a system of full height/half height motorized sliding doors that provide controlled access to the trains and protect the platform edges. This new PDS system prevents frequent suicide attempts too as it opens only when train stops on platform for passengers to enter into the compartment . The train and the screen doors opens/ closes simultaneously with the train doors with audible warning. This prevents passengers to access the train tracks ensuring safety to the passengers.
