Where the Heart Found Home

I had to pause in my editing today. The stories… they’re overwhelming sometimes. I cry often—tears of joy, of sorrow, of awe. Each one of these street dogs has touched something deep in me. Their awareness, their unwavering loyalty, the way they show kindness in a world that hasn’t always been kind to them—it humbles me.

I think of the people who opened their homes and hearts to them. I read their messages, their memories, their grief. The gratitude they feel for the time they had together—before their beloved dog walked across to the other side—moves me beyond words.

This book is more than stories. It’s a promise. I pray with all my heart that I can do them justice. That my words will carry their spirits, their truth, and the love they gave so freely.

Here’s her story 🩷
Meet Petra — A Soulful Beauty with a Heart of Gold 🌸

Petra may only be a couple of years old, but she carries herself with the quiet wisdom of a much older soul. Strong, steady, and serene — she’s the kind of dog who brings calm wherever she goes.

She’s incredibly gentle, comfortable with touch, and always open to affection. The moment she meets you, you’ll feel it — that instant connection where no words are needed. Petra speaks with her eyes, her presence, and her unwavering trust.

Recently rescued, Petra is now taking time to rest and recover, all while making new dog friends at the shelter. We take long walks through the fields where the world slows down, and Petra reminds us what peace really feels like. Just being near her is a kind of healing.

There’s something quietly powerful about this girl. Each day, she shows us a little more of who she is — and we can’t wait for someone special to discover the incredible companion she’s meant to be.

Petra deserves a life beyond shelter walls — a home where she can be loved, cherished, and truly seen. 💖

We prefer local or nearby adoptions, but for the right person, we’ll go the distance. Because Petra is worth it.

Senior wisdom

Senior Dog’s Wisdom

Yes, I sleep a lot.

We seniors tend to do that.

But you see, it’s not just sleep.

Our old bodies can’t do much anymore, and in that stillness — something else happens.

The spirit becomes lighter. Free. Like a seed drifting from a flower on the breeze.

That’s when I leave for a little while. I visit the other side.

There’s nothing holding me down — not my body, not any fears. Just content for all the love you gave me ❤️

Just like Grandma, before she left. Satisfied for all the love she received.

We know the way.

That’s why we’re not afraid.

Our souls are clean — not tangled in the past.

You see, dying doesn’t scare us.

What frightens some is not death itself — but the prison of their mind, the fear of what’s unknown.

But I’ve been there, many times visiting.

There’s nothing to fear.

And when the time comes, I’ll go softly.

Because, I already know the way.

Moving can uncover treasures hidden in old, forgotten boxes.
I recently open one, and suddenly, I was back in the middle of moments I didn’t even know I had stored. And there it was, my very first notebook, from the summer of 1994. That was the summer when everything began.

Their stories, their voices, their lives, would become my work, my purpose, and my field. My devotion for thirty years. Today I am grateful I never knew what would unfold along my journey.

As I flip through those pages, I realize that memories have scents. I recall the smells from the stables, the people and their horses, each with their own character.
Each page brought back a story.

Not mine.
The animals.

Street-dogs that taught patience better than any teacher. Dogs that arrived silently but left behind echoes of love in everyone they touched.

They weren’t just cases or jobs.
They became my companions, my teachers, and my mirrors.

And without knowing it then, those early days became the beginning of my life work,
a field built not on titles or theory. But on presence, connection, and a language without words.

Some stories have endings that broke my heart.
Some still make me laugh out loud.
But all of them matter.

Maybe that’s why I have finally opened this notebook again. Not only to remember, but to tell their stories as they deserve to be told.

That’s Amore.

Rescued dog Rescues other Dogs

Rescue Dog Trooper from Italy, now a 12 years old Senior.

Limping a lot the last couple of days, so a visit to our wonderful veterinarian, Stephanie.

All our animals loves her, and especially the lapdog Trooper.

X rays, blood test and urine test were being made, all because of different reasons.
Hopefully we receive good results tomorrow. Paws crossed please!

Trooper was being found in a shelter only 9 months old. He was bought from Hungary 2007, for 900 euro. Trooper was a happy puppy, and like many young dogs he dug around in their garden.

The family was furious, and dropped him off at a small shelter.

2016 he was diagnosed with severe cancer and had probably 6 months left to live. Well, he fooled the veterinarian by that time, big time. And we are happy for that.

Trooper has been with us for 11 years, and he is the best dog in many different ways. He is our welcome dog, greeting all new rescue dog(s). Trooper shows the newcomers around, and tells them the houesehold routines in the AWL Senior Enviroment.
Amazing hard, and great Support worker!
