I can’t believe how quickly my holiday has come to an end. I have loved every minute of it and I’ve already decided to visit again as soon as I can.

I awoke to yet another beautiful sunny day and as I gazed at the great pyramids shimmering in the distance I knew I wanted to make the most of my last day in Egypt. As desperate as I was to explore the pyramids there was another place I wanted to visit even more…..

I turned and there it stood high upon the hills…. The Great Sphinx. I remembered seeing pictures of it in textbooks at school when we did a project on Egypt and there it was right before my very eyes.

I set off on my final (for now) Egyptian journey, stopping off at some interesting ruins on the way. That’s one of the best things I’ve discovered about Egypt, there’s history everywhere and hidden treasures in the places you’d least expect to find them.

When I finally reached my destination I was in total awe of the sight before me. I tried to imagine how thousands of years before the ancient Egyptians had created such a breathtaking structure without modern technology and wished that I had paid more attention at school when we had studied Egypt. Maybe when I got back home I’d enrol on a history course at the local college. I spent hours wandering around admiring the workmanship and detail, taking loads of photo’s. Before I knew it, it was time for me to head back to the town and to my camp before the light began to fade.

I felt so hot and dusty on my journey back I ended up stopping about half way and having a rest by the river. The sparkling blue waters looked so inviting that I quickly stripped down to my bikini and had a quick dip in the cool waters.

When I got back I bumped into Beau again. We’ve become really good friends during my stay. She said she would miss me, and invited me to visit her at her home in France. I don’t think I explained about Beau properly before. She’s actually from France but is working as a tour guide here over the summer. I really hope we stay in touch, and I really hope to visit her in France one day. She asked me what my plans were for my final evening and I said I didn’t really know, so Beau said she’d take me into the town to see what it was like at night.

First we had to stop off at the office where all guides like Beau work. The lady in charge was a local and she asked me how I had enjoyed my visit to her country. I said it was better than I could have ever imagined. She asked me whether I had experienced the beauty of Egyptian music. I said I hadn’t and so she taught me a song which just sounded so beautiful and enchanting I know I’ll be singing it all the time at home.

The town was, as Beau promised amazing at night. There were sellers and entertainers everywhere. We watched a snake charmer who ended up letting me have a go. I wasn’t very good at it though and the snake didn’t even stir. We ended the evening eating some lovely food prepared by one of the street vendors before heading back to the camp. My flight was leaving first thing in the morning so me and Beau said our goodbyes there and then, promising to stay in touch with each other.

Before I left for the airport the following morning I took one final photograph, my last view of Egypt….. for now.

It felt like in no time at all I was back home amongst the greenery of Riverview and my Egyptian adventure seemed like a dream. I couldn’t wait to share my adventures with my friends, but I also longed to be back in Egypt again or some other far off land. But for now I’m too tired to do anything but throw my case into a corner and collapse into bed.

Within the week I’d managed to get my plans into place. I knew if I was to do this I had to do it now. Soon I had left the green hills of Riverview and was on a plane which took me off on my very first adventure. As I looked out of the plane window I saw a landscape spread out below which was unlike anything I’d seen before (apart from on TV and in books of course)

Here I was about to land in Egypt! The Land of the Pharaoh’s and all kinds of magic and mystery. I could hardly wait to see what adventures would happen here despite being very tired from my long journey.

By the time I reached the camp where I would be staying it was getting quite late and I wasn’t able to do more than eat a small meal and crawl into my tent. After a very restful night I woke early wondering where I was…. then I remembered. I quickly dressed and scrambled out of my tent. Even feeling the strong Egyptian sun beating down upon me felt amazing as I took in the scenes around me.

I guess I must have looked kind of lost as I wandered around the camp because one of the tour guides came over. She introduced herself as Beau, and asked what my plans for my visit were.

“Erm, taking pictures and stuff I guess” I replied.

“Oh we get many  preofessional photographers here” said Beau “You’ll find many unique photography opportunities.”

I tried to explain to Beau I wasn’t a professional photographer, in fact I wasn’t really a photographer at all but Beau had moved on to tell me about the different activities I could take part in whilst I was in the camp.

“Of course, for those who like the adventurous lifestyle there are plenty of activities too.” she continued.

The mere mention of adventure made me prick my ears up, after all that is why I was here, so I listened with great interest to what Beau said.

Beau told me about a place called ‘The Tomb of Discovery’ which was nearby and popular with inexperienced travellers, such as myself, so off I went in search of it. I eventually found the place and upon entering found myself in a room full of barrels and a strange looking stone chest. There were also two doors with sturdy chains locking them tightly. Not quite sure what to do next I took a chance and opened the stone chest. Inside I found a weird moon shaped piece of stone. I thought it was junk until a stone tablet on the wall by one of the doors caught my eye, there in the middle of it was a moon shaped imprint. “I wonder…” I casually thought to myself and placed the piece of stone onto the tablet. I heard a loud grating sound and the chain on the door snapped as the doorway opened slowly. My adventure was begining.

I made my way through the series of passageways and soon discovered that in order to get to the next part you had to step onto the right stone to activate the doorway. “This is easy” I thought to myself as I went through another door. I guess I must have spoken too soon because the next thing I knew I was at a dead end and in a room with another locked doorway and instead of the floor being made of flagstones it was just sand. I kicked around the sand for a while, just in case the stone was hidden. I was right and soon found the trigger stone. Stepping firmly onto it the door opened “Ha! Easy” I thought and walked towards the door. The minute I stepped off the stone the door clamped shut. What was happening? Why wouldn’t the door stay open? It seemed that my weight on the stone is what triggered the door to open, but as I was alone down here how could I keep it open?

I scanned the room again and saw a large stone statue in the corner. If I could move that onto the trigger stone I reckoned it would be enough to open the door.

I spent ages pushing and pulling the stone into place, but finally I did it AND IT WORKED!! I made my way down the passageway hoping that yet another challenge like that one wouldn’t face me as I was starting to feel tired and hungry. I walked around the corner and found a room (yeah another) with a stone chest placed next to a staircase

Carefully opening the chest I stared open mouthed as a bright golden light beamed out at me. I reached in and took out several metal bars. Where they gold? They seemed to be the wrong colour, but I wasn’t entirely sure. There was also another curious piece of stone shaped as a circle. I took all the items with me and made my way up the staircase wondering what lay ahead for me next.

I stared in surprise as I walked through what turned out to be the final doorway and I found myself out in the open air again. I was even more surprised to find it was now night time, I had been in The Tomb of Discovery for hours as it had been morning and the sun shining brightly when I had gone in. Staring up at the starlit sky and the ancient pyramids which were lit up in the distance I felt a sense of contentment wash over me. Seeing such beautiful sights before me made me feel like the luckiest person in the whole world.

Hi, I’m Anna Fenton and somehow you’ve stumbled upon my blog. I guess you want to know a bit about me right?

Well this is me……

This is where I live, it’s a smallish town called Riverview. It’s a nice place to live, but then again I’ve never lived anywhere else so I’ve nothing to compare it to really. I live in a house on the west side of the river. That’s another thing I’ll have to show you picture of at some point too.

Lately I’ve been feeling a bit bored with life, like I needed something different to look forward to, something that when I’m old I’ll be able to look back upon with a sense of achievement.

Friends had suggested to me that I should go back to college or take up a hobby, but that didn’t really grab my interest. It was purely by chance when I was ficking through the travel section of the newspaper one afternoon that the idea came to me and filled me with excitement.

There was a big world out there, bigger than Riverview and I wanted to see it for myself!
