Living in Scotland now, what a change from Devon. I was sad to leave Coleford as I was just starting to sell regularly at local craft fairs and with the art group. I have been here a year now and am about to put 3 pictures in the Kelso art fair, wish me luck. I haven’t got to grips with painting yet, lots of false starts, but I feel the urge coming upon me – fingers crossed!
Back again, after a long, long time
Framing
Recent work
Back again!
Today I started painting again after a long, long break.
Some recent work
I’m back!
I haven’t written anything on here for ages, largely because I’ve been so busy, and because I’ve been travelling. I have worked on several canvases, been out on some sketching trips and also done one large scale painting, which isn’t the best, but I am quite pleased with it as the scale of everything in it works. Today I made the first steps towards getting back into work by painting over some old canvases. I have ideas for 6 paintings that I have been mulling over, so there’s no shortage of material.
A continuing theme
I haven’t been painting recently as I have been busy with some sewing projects, however the weather was good enough to have a days sketching on the north coast and to go and see the latest Damien Hirst sculpture, Verity, at Ilfracombe.
I have been doing some more ipad drawing, continuing with the theme of vegetables that looked so stunning at Borough Market.
Fields

The fields above my house, painted on a sunny day.
The fields in the centre of the painting look bright red in the the late October sunshine. I’ve heightened the colour a little, artistic license!
A Sunny Day
It was a sunny day today so this morning I was in the garden until around lunch time, tidying up a bit as the bulbs are starting to show, and in fact the daffodils are out already. I then felt ready to do some more work on the ‘Pumpkin’ picture. I’ve added some white tissue paper between the pumpkins because they looked as if they were floating in space!
I’ve started another one, again inspired by my trip to Borough Market, this ones of some beautiful cauliflowers, purple and yellow. This is the start of the painting –
Its how the ‘pumpkin’ started off. Keep watching and you will see it transformed.
Whilst waiting for the paint to dry I tried out my old water colours and black ink. Very simple but effective. It reminded me how much I like water-colour, I must do some more.
By the way, the idea for the tissue paper was not mine, Gustave Caillebotte uses the same device in a painting we have hanging on the dining room wall.
