null pointer exception from getServletContext().getRealPath()

I am running on Linux with Apache 1.3.6 and JServ 1.0b5. When I try to use the getRealPath method of the ServletContext, which works fine with IIS/Jrun on NT, I get a null pointer exception. Can anyone help?
