This was the toughest race I have done (7 so far,800 feet Elevation Gain / 7,440 feet Total Descent) but luckily I had my coach, Martina Koldewey helping me thought the run. It was a long beautiful day with on the trail last Sunday. The race started at Mission Peak Regional Preserve in Fremont and ended in Del Valle Regional Park in Livermore. Bribing the weather gods helped bring cold weather to the normally hot race. The views were amazing from the top you can see of Mount Hamilton to the south, the Santa Cruz Mountains to the west, Mt. Tamalpais to the north, and Mt. Diablo and the Sierra Nevada to the northeast. The center piece of Ohlone Wilderness Trail is the 3,817 foot Rose Peak, just 32 feet lower than Mt. Diablo.

There were several streams on the path, Martina almost fell in one but saved herself by hanging on to the overgrown grass.

The cows on the trail initially did not want to move, but then suddenly turned towards me (scaring the shit out of me) and then ran away.

Also saw Catra Corbett aka “Dirt Diva” on the trail who had run 100 miles before running the Ohlone 50K for a total of 131miles in 47 hours 58 minutes

Miwok 100k prep

After 3 months of hill training and 2 back to back up weeks, I now feel confident about Miwok 100k . Thanks to Coach Raman, Reshu, Vineeta, Gargi, Raj Ghuman, Jaswinder (Mrs. Ghuman), Martina, and Anup who helped me during my long runs.

I have been using the following plan for the past month or so (starting with the Pirates Cove 50K). My runs are in conversational pace with only 2 weeks of peak mileage ~65 miles. Return to the Pirates Cove 50K

Last Saturday, I had the pleasure of joining over 550 trail runners for the Pirates Cove 8K/20K/30K/50K in the Bay Area headlands near San Francisco, CA. It was an epic adventure of staggering climbs, windy peaks, and a storm that chased us into the hills. Pirates Cove has also been my first Ultra(Metamorphosis to an Ultramarathon) so this run did have a special significance in my heart. All in all, a great race to sampling for what to expect for Miwok 100K.

I started the run with Chakri, Chandrika, Bharti near the Rodio Beach which was alive with runners jumping in place and filling the cold air with sharp exhales of steamy breath. I recognized many faces in the crowd as I shed my layers and got ready to race. Chandrika was running her first trail run and was really exited about the prospect – look I happy she looks 🙂
