Well I have done very little over the past few days…so little in fact that sod all would be a better description. Didn’t even get around to getting the light box out.
I did however manage to glue some skeletons together…
Now I have an inkling that these are early Mantic. Really not sure. The majority come in two bits, legs with back then chest and rest.
They do fit in better than GW ones with the Wargames Atlantic stuff I have been building of late. The ones with an open hand can either be given a spear or sword.
A few of them have a separate weapon arm and head choice.
Well I got a parcel in the post today. It pretty much used up half of my Christmas pennies.
As you might recall I have one or two knightly types and their retinues. I have been trying to get their designs on their shields, banners and other bits and pieces.
They have been waiting an absolute age, this is a small amount of the force.
But over a while I have been after some reusable stamps and eventually Goblin Hobbies have added the UK to their shipping destinations.
So here is what came in the box…
Two plates, two colours, a scraper and a stamping tool.
The set wasn’t the most expensive thing ever… Tax and postage raised it a fair old bit.
Now Goblin Hobbies is an American company and when I saw the shipping and tax at that price I thought it must be coming direct from the states. I was wrong. Not sure how I feel about it to be honest.
I was wanting to get going as soon as it came, but I am writing this now rather than later as I was worried I might fall asleep. So will give it a bash this weekend.
Still waiting on the other half of my Christmas cash spending to arrive.
Well I reckon the best ever Road trip was when I was in the Polish lancer reenactment group.
We drove from Northumberland in the UK to Ciechanow in Poland. Was an epic road trip via Berlin and Warsaw on the way out and Leipzig and somewhere else on the way back (was too tired to remember where… It had Windmills and tulips though).
In fact my musket ball came from Leipzig
Here I am in CiechanowMounted pics
So in the first here I am (nearest the camera) after trying out a couple of mounts before the big day, technically we should be wearing our stable trousers. But we evidently aren’t.
So in the second in full dress uniform and so is the horse. I haven’t got the lance in this photo.
Here I am twirling my lance…
This was another road trip to Boulogne and that was a bloody nightmare.
Well I never, the mini lightbox worked fine. As I was trying to do other things then I just used one coloured insert. I picked blue as it was on the top.
So here are my ten fanatics in their (hopefully) well lit glory…
Whatever it is, it is a hell of a lot better than this…
Or this now I come to think of it…
The box itself is about a foot square. As you can see above it’s not too bad for up to a dozen miniatures.
Obviously I will have to have a proper test with all of the coloured backgrounds as well as the different light settings.
Well I actually remembered this. It was left in the car and it was windy and rainy so I thought sod it, I will test it tomorrow when I find a USB plug…
Yep that is the price I paid for it… It had better work or I will be down £2.
While I was there I noticed a little bag of toys and it reminded me of a post I read yesterday about Britains’ aliens ( I think it was Roger’s Post) ..
But with freezing rain rolling in, who knows what tomorrow will bring.
Anyway I eventually plucked up courage and said goodbye to Ark. It was a bit sad really as I made some really good mates on there but it is time to move on. So after getting annoyed at idiots on Hell Let Loose I decided to do something model wise.
So I went and found the five remaining cultists and built them…
Sorry about the weird lighting…
So here they all are slavering, baying at the moon and waving the odd severed limb around in the back.
Now the one thing that has always confused me about this set is the chainsaw in a fantasy collection. Obviously the set could be used in a more modern setting, but for me I never thought I would ever have a use for it… Until this evening!
The arms perfectly fit and EM4 ganger. I purchased a couple of sets for Five Parsecs, and voila, ganger with a noisy close combat weapon.
I haven’t been totally lazy… I decided to help my daughter with her Lego set she got a couple of years ago…
Ye gods this thing is a penance. This is about six or seven hours of work and I am nowhere near finished.
So Friday tomorrow and I intend to do the four remaining hangers and get things on bases.
Well after a spell of nearly three years of daily blogging I kind of ran out of steam. Late 2019 to 2023 were the glory years, set up a second blog for visits around Shetland and then Boom it all stopped…so why bring this up now, well Roger did a great post yesterday that really got me thinking!
Yes his post gave me the kick to maybe try again. Now as you know long COVID hit me hard, it’s a reason for last years absence. To be brutally honest I could have posted stuff from Mid August onwards and didn’t. The Blog Mojo had gone. And I also became an admin on Ark, what with trying to play the game and support other players it did become a bit of an all consuming role. I am actually trying to pluck up the courage to quit as I know it will drop them in the cacky a bit.
So what about the update. Well I managed to make some cultists for Five Leagues and a few more townsfolk for Traitor’s Toll.
I also bought Five Parsecs From Home, the forerunner to Five Leagues.
Well I love Fantasy and my Son loves Sci fi and he does like Lore and making stories so I decided to splash out and see if he would be interested. To get going I made my crew and ship. As yet they have no names, but I really did like how the Dice Rolls made the storyline…
So take a couple of characters here. I rolled three crew as the first three were automatically human, I got two more humans and a strange character. So I then rolled up six backgrounds, and the motivation. Basically Drifter and Freedom then Long term space mission and Discovery in the two examples above. I then rolled up the class for all six, getting petty criminal and scientist.
So instead of rolling each character up separately I actually rolled everything up and scribbled it down. This allowed me to then allocate the different rolls to specific characters.
So we ended up with a drifter who was searching for Freedom amongst the stars, probably not the most honest crew member as he is a petty criminal. The weapon choice also seemed appropriate from the ones rolled.
The Strange character was emotionally surpressed and when a long term space mission arrived with the dice roll it fit perfectly. I then rolled Scientist among the rolls. So Bingo, poor person had their mind altered to allow them to travel deep space without going all mad and dangerous. They became the science officer for the mission and as you can see kept some gear with them from their expeditions…these being an analyser and a communicator. They also managed to acquire an infantry laser on their travels.
So the crew as it stands have an ex soldier as leader (getting Firefly vibes here). A wealthy Merchant, the drifter and scientist. A Bounty hunter (ex law enforcement) and finally the, what I think is another interesting one, is the person from the mining colony who received a bionic arm after an accident. They found faith and are now a special agent. Are we talking Opus Dei in space here. They are also armed with a military grade heavy shotgun. You really don’t want to fall asleep in their sermons do you!
I am looking forward to hunting out some suitable miniatures. Once I find something suitable I will come up with names.
Oh and as you could see from the pic earlier, they are in a worn out Freighter with 1D6 plus 20 credits left to pay off on it. It has a hull rating of 30 (basically armour) and no weapons. You can buy ship upgrades in game too.
