Bo Nicholson
Investment Adviser
Bo Nicholson is a proud lifelong resident of Raleigh, North Carolina, where he was raised with his two brothers, William and Henry. Growing up in the heart of North Carolina’s capital, he formed strong personal and professional roots in the city that shaped much of his life.
After high school, Bo pursued higher education at the University of Georgia, where he earned his degree from the Terry College of Business in 2010. However, his college years were about more than just academics. He was also part of the touring rock band Mama’s Love, which gained significant attention while performing across the Southeastern United States. The band recorded original songs at renowned studios such as Southern Ground in Atlanta, working with the respected producer John Keane in Athens. The lessons he learned during these years, including the importance of teamwork, discipline, and a shared vision, continue to influence his professional outlook today.
Though his career took him in a different direction, Bo has never lost his connection to music. He continues to perform in Raleigh with the local cover band Steamroom Etiquette and occasionally reunites with his former bandmates for special performances. Music remains a fulfilling creative outlet in his life.
Career Path
Bo’s professional journey began in 2012 when he joined Merrill Lynch as a financial advisor. He completed the firm’s Practice Management Development program, which included intense client acquisition and relationship management training. His early efforts, including cold calling and hosting educational seminars, laid the foundation for his career. These experiences helped him build a proactive, relationship-focused approach to financial advising.
In 2016, Bo transitioned to Capital Investment Companies, where he formed a partnership with Greg Hicks and Wanda Cooper at Financial Resource Management (FRM). He was drawn to FRM’s client-first culture and its emphasis on cultivating long-term relationships. Since joining the firm, FRM has grown into a trusted advisory team, serving high-net-worth families and business owners throughout North Carolina. The firm now operates offices in Raleigh, Greensboro, and Atlantic Beach.
Bo holds two key financial designations: Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) and Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor™ (CRPC®), which he earned in 2016 and 2013. Additionally, he is a graduate of the Dale Carnegie Course and a member of the President’s Council at Capital Investment Companies, an acknowledgment of his exceptional client service and performance. Along with his advisory work, he co-hosts a personal finance radio show broadcast throughout the Triangle and Crystal Coast. This platform provides practical advice and helps to make financial education accessible to a broader audience.
Financial Planning Approach
At the core of Bo’s advisory philosophy is the commitment to clarity, trust, and a long-term perspective. He focuses on helping clients simplify complex financial matters, minimize tax exposure, and make informed decisions at various stages of their lives. Whether clients prepare for retirement, fund education, or manage family wealth, he strives to be a reliable partner in their decision-making process.
Bo’s approach is always personalized, with no one-size-fits-all solution. Each financial plan is tailored to the individual needs and goals of the client, ensuring that every recommendation is meaningful and directly aligned with their values. He aims to provide thoughtful guidance supporting his clients’ financial futures.
Personal Life
In 2018, Bo married Seely Stephenson in Roaring Gap, North Carolina. The couple traveled to Greece for their honeymoon to build a life together before returning to Raleigh. They are now the proud parents of two children: Grove, born in 2021, and Bill, born in 2023. He and Seely also have a loyal yellow lab named Parker.
Outside of his professional life, Bo enjoys spending quality time with his family, golfing, and exploring the North Carolina coast. His love for live music remains a significant part of his life, and he continues to find time to perform or attend concerts. He is also a proud uncle to five nieces and nephews and values the friendships he has built over the years. The values of authenticity, consistency, and care that guide his professional career are just as important in his personal life.
Looking Ahead
As Bo approaches a decade with Capital Investment Companies, he remains committed to personal and professional growth. He strives to build a people-centered firm culture and deepen the trust placed in him by his clients and colleagues.
Through his journey from performing music to managing wealth, Bo has maintained a strong commitment to integrity, relationships, and purpose. His belief in building meaningful connections one relationship at a time continues to shape his work and the legacy he is creating.
