An Appeal to Oxfam on Behalf of JINJA UK

Dear Sir or Madam,

As a follow-up to your email, we have sent you three of our products to see if you’d be interested in stocking them in your Oxfam shops.

We are a charitable organisation that supports deaf women in Jinja, Uganda, helping them to earn a fair living wage. The project was launched by Rob Buchanan who is also the founder of the charity MEND specialising in raising money for medical expenses of those in need in Africa, India and other places around the world.

Due to traditional gender norms and poverty in Uganda, women – especially differently-abled women – are often not permitted an education and instead are forced into familial and domestic roles. Our charity subverts this restrictive paradigm by allowing women to use skills associated with these roles to thrive in a commercial setting.

Already talented, the women are then trained on sewing machines and learn about market research and product development. They are guaranteed a fair wage so they never go hungry or in need.

Having mastered their art, our craftswomen are able to create things the quality of which can rarely be found even from top brands and outlets. Extremely strong and long-lasting, the seams are sewn at a factory level and a thicker, more robust material is used to ensure a lifetime of service.

Crafted in traditional Ugandan style with a more Western application in mind, these products have universal appeal. A perfect addition to a window display, their eye-catching nature makes them a dream for visual merchandising – sure to increase foot-traffic in your stores, creating the potential for increased general sales.

Our wares are well-made, fair trade and simply gorgeous, and as we’ve observed an upward trend in profit from new fair trade products in your annual reports, we think it’s the perfect time – and Oxfam the perfect place – to bring the vivid colours and life of these authentic Ugandan designs to the forefront of the British high street.

Products range from bags, hats, aprons, headbands, earrings, skirts and more. The ladies try new ideas all the time to see what will work.

One lady from the group is called Victoria… Due to her work making JINJA products, she has been able to buy the materials to build her own house — which is now nearly completed!

The income these products provide is essential to our crafters. It feeds them and their families, combats homelessness, offers them a more autonomous and enriched life, and helps cover school fees, giving their children a better chance to succeed in the future and break the ruthless cycle of poverty.

With these skilfully crafted products, this inspirational group of workers are showing Jinja and beyond the true value of women’s labour.

Thank you for your time.

If you’d like to hear more about JINJA UK or MEND, please don’t hesitate to reach out; we’d love to talk more!

Best wishes,

The Future of Integrity UK

The Global Map Project

Made with Love

The Global Map Project will be a fun and interactive way for you to shine a light on all the great ethical things you’ve discovered. It’s an invitation to create your own personal treasure map showing the way to all the things that hold true value.

Your map might include favourite vegan restaurants, natural product alternatives, events, or perhaps a local organic business making waves in the area; as long as it fits Integrity’s ethical values and makes you smile, it can go on your map!

The idea is that your localised maps will form a vast network that will grow to span the world over, compiling all the great stuff going on in one universal domain.

The Global Mapping Project will also give you the chance to rate and review any of the products, places, brands or events you map, as well as any of the existing listings, allowing others to find exactly what they’re looking for and gain a little bit of insight before purchase or travel.

We can’t wait to see what you’ve found!

Forums & Crowdfunding

Penny for Your Thoughts

As Integrity UK grows, we see potential in separating public and private membership sections, allowing people to enjoy our platform at the level of involvement they feel comfortable with.

Whereas the public domain would include access to the Global Mapping Project and ratings & reviews, the private membership would include forums, chats, and a messaging service.

Not only would this act as a space for people to discuss the great ethical things going on in the world and the listings in the directory, but a platform on which people could share their ideas about how they’d like to see their own communities or any other place in the world improved.

Of course, what’s an idea without the means to make it a reality?

We want to give members the option to start crowdfunding campaigns so you can bring your ideas to life. For example, if you live in an area that doesn’t have any local sources of organic vegetables, Integrity could grant you the resources and the courage to start a farming initiative and resolve the issue.

You could actually transform your environment and livelihood through the power of public donation, ultimately leading to better, more sustainable local communities.

We also plan to set up a system that will allow anyone – member or non-member – to donate whatever they can to projects in developing countries. This way, we can help shape sustainable, ethical communities full of healthy happy people, not just in our backyard, but around the globe!

We believe by using The Global Map Project to launch these community-based missions, we can create and promote thousands of jobs all around our shared home while simultaneously promoting sustainable development, giving communities in need access to essential resources, support, and a ‘Source of Light’ — the official name of our crowdfunding site.

Organic Produce Overview – WMF

The Bounties of Wagg Meadow

Rice, Flour, Grains, Cereal

Our Grain. Your Gain.

Here at Wagg Meadow farm shop, we’re giving it back to the grain! The 75% of nutrients destroyed during non-organic refining processes, that is.

Our vast selection of grains is cultivated using only organic and sustainable techniques because we trust in the grain’s natural resilience and understand that the more a crop is allowed to fulfil its own processes, the more packed full of healthy nutrients and antioxidants the result will be.

Not only are our grain products organically produced from seed to scythe, but they’re also only treated with strictly natural preservation techniques and sourced as locally as humanly possible, so you can feel safe in the knowledge that you’re getting the freshest, healthiest, most ethical product available.

Spices & Herbs

Soil & Spice & All Things Nice

It goes without saying that the quality of the soil denotes the quality of the crop, and It’s not always as easy as looking for the difference; it’s what’s on the inside that counts. That’s why our shelves are packed with herbs and spices grown exclusively in rich impurity-free soil, guaranteeing vibrant flavours and top-notch nutritional value.

Even though spices are often thought of as imported goods, all our herbs and spices are either grown here at Wagg Meadow or are sourced as locally as possible, giving you access to a world of colour and flavour under one roof without the dinosaurian carbon footprint — Hooray!

Jams & Preserves

Come and sample our mouthwatering selection of ethically produced organic jams and preserves to satisfy both your sweet tooth and your good heart.

Each one is made from expertly cultivated organic fruits with no artificial colourings, flavours, or sugars, so you get the fruit, the whole fruit, and nothing but the fruit.

Tinned Goods

Reasons For The Seasons

Here at Wagg Meadow we love, love, love the seasons. After all, a big part of organic farming is
working with them rather than against them, so fresh seasonal produce is a must.

But we understand that the kitchen is a place for creativity, not limitation, so you need a pantry filled with a variety of delicious options, which is why we’re stocking only the very best organically produced tinned goods, grown and packaged to the highest of standards.

With our help, you can bring the green life of spring into the rustling reds and taupes of late autumn, or open a tin full of summer in the drizzly mid-winter!

Milk

There are only a few serious dividers of people: politics, religion, money, and, of course, milk.

Everyone has their favourite, be it full fat, oat, semi-skimmed, soy, almond, long life, raw… The list is endless, which is why, in the spirit of bringing people back together, we stock a wide range of fantastic organic milks.

Whatever your favourite is, chances are, we’ve got it.

Asparagus

Best Of The Best

Over the course of our seven years of experience cultivating delicious organic asparagus from
well-established Soil Association-certified beds, we have mastered the art.

With its vibrant deep green hue and thick succulent stems full of fibre, folate, chromium, and vitamins A, C, E, and K, our asparagus – good for the brain and the gut – is unparalleled in quality.

Available throughout May and June each year (sometimes earlier during a hot Spring), you simply can’t find asparagus like this in the supermarket.

Fruit & Veg

Come and stock up on fresh organic fruit and veg collected from Bristol market every Thursday morning. Grown locally with the greatest attention to quality and organic principles, expect maximum flavour and superior nutrition.

Plants

Chlorophyll Your Boots

We’re plant people here at Wagg Meadow. In fact, we think the more plants, the better, which is why we’ll be selling a variety of them from our farm shop. If you’re a plant person too, don’t hesitate to come and say hello; we’re also people people!

Frozen Goods

If you fancy stocking up for the months to come, we have a walk-in-freezer teeming with fresh organic meats and other goods so you can be prepared for whatever comes your kitchen’s way.

Hello (…)
We’ve written you this letter because here at Wagg Meadow Farm we believe we could be two
peas in a pod.

We discovered your business via (…) and were instantly drawn to your products, specifically (…)
Intrigued by your brand, we endeavoured to learn more about you and liked what we saw. We were inspired by your dedication to sustainable business practices and environmental issues, and
we would love to stock your products in our organic farm shop.

25 years ago, Wagg Meadow was built up from scratch into a certified Soil Association farm and
shop with a passion for ethical produce and organic production methods. Specialising in asparagus and small livestock, we’ve developed into an organisation synonymous with excellence and steadfast ethical values. But that’s not all. We’re growing!

Our plan is to expand Wagg Meadow into a thriving cultural eco-hub, adding a vegetarian restaurant, a space for workshops and classes, and a library, bringing people together to learn, create, and generally flourish.

One of the pillars of Wagg Meadow’s success is that our ethos is shared by the greater community. Situated in Somerset, between Yeovil and Taunton, (near Glastonbury) we’re surrounded by like-minds eager to help get the ball rolling on positive change in each other and our environment. This unity of spirit means that if your products mean something to us, they’ll mean something to our neighbours and customers.

If you decide to join the Wagg Meadow family, you’ll be in great company as we currently already
stock products from (…). Our annual sales figures have grown from (…) to (…), illustrating the demand for products supplied by eco-conscious companies such as (company name).

To give you an idea of what things might look like moving forward, a first order would generally be between (…) and (…) units; however, if you have any standing offers or restrictions regarding
quantities and shipments, let us know, and we’ll be happy to come up with a plan that works for
you.

If you’re interested in helping one another, don’t hesitate to get in touch however you prefer.
You’re a perfect match for Wagg Meadow, but we don’t just think you’d be good for us and our
community, we’re really interested in you because we think your message, approach, products
and passion are good for the world at large because – like us – you understand that the treasure
at the end of the rainbow was always earth.

Yours organically,

The Search Engine that Makes Doing the Right Thing the Easiest Option

Good intentions are fantastic! They’re like seeds, wonderful little things
full of energy and potential, and when developed, they can alter an entire
landscape, but they can’t do it on their own. Just like seeds, they need
little help — they need some nourishment and care.

Think of us as your own personal sunbeam!

We’re a new search engine run with the belief that doing the right thing
shouldn’t feel like a burden, or that bad choices should be easier to make
than good.

Our directory is dedicated to bringing you only ethical UK businesses
that prioritise sustainability and environmental well-being. By spreading
awareness of brands that use sustainable practices; compiling them in
this one easy to find, easy to search place; we can normalise ethical
living.

The pillar of exploitative businesses’ success is convenience, so we’re
giving the good guys the same support, bringing ethical choices directly
to you, helping you to turn your good intentions into great actions.

Together, we can increase market competition and encourage non-ethical
entities to take on more responsible means of production, edifying
business practices on a national scale.

We understand that it’s not always easy to make a difference, that it can
feel like taking the world onto your shoulders — Let’s share the load… it
only takes a thought, a seed.

Discover the magnitude of your influence.

Alter the landscape.

The Last Hundred by Aaron Kent and William Arnold, Published by Guillemot Press – Quick Review

This collection- presented on long postcards held in an old-style photo album sleeve you’d get when you picked up your almost entirely blurry disposable camera holiday photos from Boots- is a multidisciplinary collaboration of Aaron Kent’s poetry and William Arnold’s photography, produced and published by the fantastic and always innovative Guillemot Press.

Focused on a selection of locations in rural Cornwall, Aaron Kent’s poetry rings out with a contrapuntal voice equal parts university professor, ancient kraken-fearing sailor, myth revering child, and soapbox doomsayer… and It’s cool as fuck; a linguistic identity dysphoria- or confluence- that yields extra-ordinary results.

Kent’s work is rife with the best kind of contradiction. It is equally historic, delving into his subjects storied pasts for language and concepts, as it is modern in its execution and style. his reconstruction of environments is as much subjective and personal as it is matter-of-fact, brokering a parley between memory, and existing structural remnants and geography.

Arnold’s photography captures landscapes so wind-racked, the wind itself seems to present itself as an object or ghostly figure in the shots. From misty fields with sprays of wildflower, to darkling dells and the immutable spumy ocean, Arnold offers an ambience, a stage for the poetry to live and breath around like a murmuration.

The words and images pair up to provoke a darkness, a folk-horror dread. If it were possible to soundtrack books, this project would howl with dissonant strings trying to resolve into a harmony, never quite making it. Individually, the poetry and photography would be quite striking; all involved are deft in their art, but together, they present such ethereal and mythic lands tinged with the macabre of prototypical fairytales that you must remind yourself throughout are real places.

A truly beautiful project, The Last Hundred is a monochrome satchel with contents that lift the silver halide lens from the past, colouring and intensifying it, blowing the dust from attic beams into sklents of sun, and the birds in the brush back into the stormy Cornish air.

Crucible – From my pamphlet, Chandelier, out on Broken Sleep Books

The way the sun
elongates over a lake at twilight
the 2 watt halogen energy saver
achieves on your
closed eyelids
after about a minute or so’s warm up,
a time machine whir
and a strobe of blinks.
When you open your eyes
I see this landscape roll halfway
into your skull, nearing brain
but not touching,
revealing the cavern
networks of your iris;
a staggered echo
sounding back my own voice
from the crucible of your gaze:

I love you.

New Poetry Pamphlet Available Over at Broken Sleep Books.

Hey everyone,

My new poetry pamphlet is available for order now from Broken Sleep Books.

It’s a collection using light in various ways to express scenes and moods.

Broken Sleep Books is a relatively new press with an already impressive roster of writers. Head on over: https://www.brokensleepbooks.com

Erasure

The image of you in my head
is fraying,
tailing into anemone fire.
Your crisp lines jittered like
sutures on a skull.

Never just one burial ground.
The rot happens
in that Manchester grave
and the head.

First
there is this Picassion mutation,
a steady morph
then acid baths,
and I’m left with:

Objects – colouring books,
foot operated
ash tray, pocket knife.

Details – a comfy femur –
my throne,
your elbow bend
on the arm of the chair
I could express
mathematically with triangles
and degrees on squared
note paper.

Sense memory –
voice that soothes my mother,
voice –
god of my god,
smell of stew.

Bigger things –
warmth and awe,
cloudish serenity.

And I wish it hadn’t taken
so long to admit,
but it’s okay.

You dismantle,

patch after patch, blacked out
over time
in the primordial alluvium
of thought,

and I’m left with
the raw materials;

the sweet erasure
poem of your soul.
