Okay, I got my hands on the new Glock Gen 6 Models. I have the Glock 17, 19 and 45 in house for a review. Now, I am not sponsored by anybody and I purchased these firearms early before the release date through a law enforcement program. So this is my review, my opinion and I’m not benefiting in any way! In other words I’m not a paid schill like most of the other reviews out there. Now, I have shot Glocks since 1990. Just before I went into a Police Academy. My options at that time were Beretta, Sig Sauer, Glock or a revolver. Revolvers were phazng out so a semi-auto made the most sense. At that time the Sig and Beretta were heavy guns so the Glock made the most sense to go on an already heavy duty belt! Plus with no external safety to manipulate I could see the writing on the wall. So I have shot Glocks since then. I’ve also had the opportunity to shoot Sig’s, H&K’s, Smith and Wessons, Berettas, Stacattos, competition oriented semi-autos and every type of revolver known to man and a lot more shotguns and rifles. As a Law Enforcement firearms instructor, USCCA and NRA instructor I know a little bit and hope to share a little with you. I love my recent purchase of the Archon Type B Gen 2 and believe it is a magnificent firearm! However, I always keep coming back to the Glock platform and it’s reliability and simplicity continue to impress me. I do not think that I have ever had a malfunction in a Glock that I didn’t cause or was a result of poor ammunition and I can count all of those on one hand!
So let’s get to the new Gen 6. Glock listened to what people wanted and while maintaining the core of what the Glock semi-auto handgun is they made some significant changes.
First off they added an aggressive stipling to the frame that gives you excellent grip and purchase while not being so rough that it is hard on your body. This is called the RTF6 texture and it covers more area. This right here, is what everyone who wanted more grip was doing anyways but Glock added it to the new Gen 6 and personally I love it!
Next they widened the palm swell so it fits better in your hand. This really helps with the ergonomics and gives you more purchase for your grip which is already improved because of the RTF6 texture.
Next they undercut the trigger guard which allows you to get your grip higher into the frame once again giving you better purchase and improving your grip on the frame. These three things make the new Glock Gen 6 so much better than the Gen 5’s on down…
Yet, they listened and made even more improvements. They put in ambidextrous gas pedals or thumbs rests which once again improves the ergonomics and allows you to have that strong grip and create your vise around the frame.
They added a beavertail which eliminates Glock bite, if that was a problem for you. It also allows you to get very high up on the frame. Once again giving you a better grip.
They put some extended fencing around the slide release so if you were having some problems pressing it, they fixed that. The slide serrations are deeper allowing for better purchase when manipulated.
Internally, they reverted to the single recoil spring assembly as the double spring was no longer needed in this generation. Simpler, less reason for problems. That’s a win.
MOS and the resulting slide plates are gone. The new optic mounting system allows you to directly mount your RMR to the glock and your RMR will sit lower because of this! I like it…
Now, let’s talk about the new flat faced trigger on the Glock Gen 6. Absolutely love it! This trigger is great. It’s still a duty or Personal Protection trigger pull, meaning it’s not light at around 5.5 lbs. But it is quicker to reset and feels and performs better but still feels like a Glock trigger and leaves the Glock safe action system intact on the Gen 6!
So, I shot about 500 rounds through each model. No malfunctions and with everything Glock has improved with the Gen 6 it simply shoots flatter and is an extreme joy to shoot! Better ergonomics, better trigger, better RMR design. It’s simply better than the previous models…
Still overall inexpensive compared to a lot of other similar firearms and you can get yours on January 20th!
Just change out the factory sights, slap on an RMR and you are good to go…

See You At The Range….
