Just some things I “see” in B&W.

Checking the calendar, and I have verified that it is January and since I live in the Northern Hemisphere, that means it is the middle of Winter.

It was late December and in SoCal, we were experiencing an Atmospheric River. Which means it was raining. Raining for days and days. 

During a break in the rain I drove up to the plateau. I was hoping for some cloudy skies and the opportunity for some high contrast B&W photos.

I was surprised to find a small group of California Poppies! How strange. 

It is now the middle of January and I am not only finding the poppies, but a few other wildflowers. 

I also found these purple poppy-mallows.

I guess even the flowers are finding this to be a confusing time.  🤷

Donald Trump is running his gangster regime like a neglected 8-year-old boy with his first chemistry set – he has no idea what he’s mixing together and just wants to watch stuff blow up. Oh, and another similarity: zero adult supervision.

It gets worse. In a bonkers interview with the New York Times published today, Trump proclaimed that his power as commander in chief is constrained only by…wait for it…”his own morality.” Whoa!!! Since he has none, this is no bueno.

From the story in the Times: “Asked if there were any limits on his global powers, Mr. Trump said: “Yeah, there is one thing. My own morality. My own mind. It’s the only thing that can stop me.’ ‘I don’t need international law,” he added. ‘I’m not looking to hurt people.”” Damn, Renee Good would beg to differ. When pressed further about whether he needed to follow international law, Trump said “It depends what your definition of international law is.” My God. This is not an administration; it’s an international crime syndicate.

He was totally delusional in the interview, as per usual, at one point repeating the abject bullshit that “I’ve been very loyal to Europe. I’ve done a good job. If it weren’t for me, Russia would have all of Ukraine right now.”

He was also totally open about his authoritarian jones, appropriate on a day when we learned that, as ABC News reports, casualties are mounting as federal agents shot and injured two people this afternoon in Portland, Oregon. Homeland Security said in a statement that the shooting happened during a “targeted vehicle stop” and the victims were an undocumented immigrant and member of the Tren de Aragua gang. And surely if they say so, we can take that to the bank. (Insert eye roll permanently into back of head.)

We are under siege, with no end in sight. Alas, it’s only going to get worse because they want to provoke conflict. During his interview with the Times, Trump reiterated that he was willing to invoke the Insurrection Act and deploy the military inside the United States and federalize some National Guard units if he felt it was important to do so. He is chomping at the bit.

In case the regime’s response to yesterday’s cold-blooded murder of a young mom in Minneapolis wasn’t obscene enough, today they trotted out the most appalling person they could find to make it ever more hideous.

As Adam Serwer wrote in The Atlantic, “the federal government now speaks with the voice of the right-wing smear machine: partisan, dishonest, and devoted to vilifying Trump’s perceived enemies rather than informing the public.” And, since apparently Pee Wee German Stephen Miller was busy, who better to perform than JD Vance.

Vance blames the dead mom – who he insanely calls a victim of “left wing ideology” – for getting shot in the face, lying preposterously that she “aimed her car” at the agent and “pressed on the accelerator.” This is worse than a lie; it is a fascistic tactic: saying I know I’m lying, you know I’m lying, I know you know I’m lying, and there is nothing you can do about it so F you.

He lies that “There’s an entire network, and frankly some of the media are participating in it, that is trying to incite violence against our law enforcement officers.”

Now that the regime has called the victim a “domestic terrorist,” and blamed “left wing ideology” for her murder, Vance, hilariously, closes his briefing by asking the press to “take down the temperature” around the shooting. You can’t make this shit up.

The administration is such a bunch of lying scared cowards that, as the Wall Street Journal reports, the Keystone Kash-led corrupt FBI has blocked Minnesota law enforcement officials from participating in the investigation of the fatal shooting. Can’t let the facts get in the way of the propaganda.

Moving to foreign policy, Vance also said, in response to a question about whether Congress should have been consulted about the Venezuela assault, that “the War Powers Act is fundamentally a fake and unconstitutional law” Yale Law School called JD. They want their degree back.

And as if right on cue, in a rare case of having a semblance of a spine, 5 Republican Senators today voted with the Dems to debate a resolution that would put a lid on Trump’s illegitimate use of force in Venezuela.

Voting to agree to discuss something was too much for the mob boss who took to his dumb personal social media site to thunder: “Republicans should be ashamed of the Senators that just voted with Democrats in attempting to take away our Powers to fight and defend the [USA]. Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Rand Paul, Josh Hawley, and Todd Young should never be elected to office again.” Sure is worth prostrating yourself for this fool, huh Senators?

Running Josh Hawley, of course, when asked about Trump’s comments, groveled to NBC News “I love the President. I think he’s doing a great job. I just think we need to weigh in.” Way to stay strong Josh.

These clowns need to take a page from Kentucky Congressman Thomas Massie, who broke with Trump over the Epstein files. Trump of course immediately endorsed a primary challenger, saying that “He only votes AGAINST the Republican Party, making life very easy for the Radical Left.”

Massie, who clearly has no f*cks to give, responded to Trump’s bullshit on CNN today, saying “I vote 91% of the time with the party. But when they’re covering up for pedophiles or starting a new war or doing regime change or bankrupting the country-in that 9%, I’m not with my party.” Ouch.

Extra Credit:

This is an actual line from the

Washington Post today about an actual thing that is happening: “House Republicans are hoping to soon deliver a win for President Donald Trump’s agenda – or at least his hair – by voting to codify his long-desired showerhead changes into law, one of their top priorities of the new session.”

Got that? This is not Saturday Night Live. Showerheads are one of the Republicans “top priorities.” Jesus. Gotta have priorities, I guess: Creating a police state. Occupying Democratic cities. Rigging the midterms. Better Showerheads. That tracks.

The Shower Act, the Post explains,

“would increase how much could be used in a shower by redefining federal standards around showerheads and allowing multiple nozzles.” It draws on Trump’s executive order from last year to, you guessed it, “make America’s showers great again.”

I can’t even, and neither can
Massachusetts Congressman Jim McGovern, who summed up the whole inanity perfectly, saying “People still can’t afford rent, groceries are going up, and we’re back in the Rules Committee debating showerheads “I mean, this is beyond stupid.”
