Stillness

Happy 2025! I hope everyone had a restful, impactful break. As we go into the year, I hope we all will prioritize rest, but in particular, rest in God’s presence. This week’s challenge to my classes is this question: What would my day look like if all I did was look for God all around me? In fact, what would I look like if all I did was look for God all around me? That’s really hard to do when we’re too busy.

Psalm 46:10 New Living Translation

10 “Be still, and know that I am God!
I will be honored by every nation.
I will be honored throughout the world.”

The more we prioritize stillness in the presence of God, the more time we’ll seem to have, the clearer decisions will become, and most importantly, the more like Jesus we will become.

If Jesus drew away for communion with the Father, why wouldn’t we?

Rest in Him

Genesis 2:2-3 New King James Version

And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.

In the hustle and bustle of life, it’s so easy to fall prey to busyness. We often mistake busyness for productivity when we’re really just busy! It’s hard not to be. There are parties, there are family gatherings, there are gifts to be bought, and there are opportunities to serve. While all of it is good, it still doesn’t make time to wind down and rest.

Might I challenge us all this year to simply slow down? What if we enjoyed the present moment and, instead of filling our minds with the seemingly urgent to-do list, we just sat in the moment and rested? What if we allow ourselves the joyous opportunity to be concerned with the current moment and its beauty?

I truly believe that work done unto the Lord is holy because God works, and I also believe that rest is holy because God rested. We seem to master the work part but minimize the rest part. This season, do what God does: rest. Rest in His promises, in His peace, and most importantly in His presence.

Immediate Obedience

Matthew 4:20-22

20 And they left their nets at once and followed him.21 A little farther up the shore he saw two other brothers, James and John, sitting in a boat with their father, Zebedee, repairing their nets. And he called them to come, too. 22 They immediately followed him, leaving the boat and their father behind.

Immediately is the key word. I so rarely respond to God immediately. And I have to ask myself, why? As people in authority, we would much rather have immediate, respectful obedience, wouldn’t we? So why do we think God should be pleased with our eventual obedience?

Dare I say it’s my pride, selfishness, or maybe even fear of the unknown? Obedience to God was never meant to be circumstantial or up for debate. It was always meant to simply, be.

May we shudder at the thought of missing out on God’s best due to fear or pride masked as slow obedience. But may we shout with joy for God’s graciousness to love us through our doubtful, fearful moments that He still uses for His good.

What Worries Do

Something happens when we’re too busy for Jesus and when we get distracted.

1) Worry
2) Anxious
3) Loss of Focus

Avoid the distraction, allow the interruption.

Luke 10:38-42
38 As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. 39 Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught. 40 But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.”

41 But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! 42 There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.”

The Power of Influence

Forgive the sound quality!

We’re talking about the power of influence. Influence is POWERFUL! Hear me out, what do great leaders have in common? Whether good or bad? They have the ability to influence!

We often wonder, how could Hitler convince people to try to exterminate the Jewish race? He had influence.

MooreTime Podcast – Career Boundaries

Boundaries are something we know we should establish, yet rarely do. Today, we discussed boundaries in our careers. What do they look like? How do you encourage your spouse or significant other to pursue their dreams? How do you hold them accountable to their goals? What does investing in each other’s career look like?

Hope in Loss

Losing a loved one is always difficult. There really aren’t enough words or right words to help a person cope. You’ve been that person, I’m sure. You’ve been the one who lost a loved one. You’ve tried to process how you feel, which is often the hardest part.

And you’ve likely been the person on the other side. The one trying to help the griever cope with their loss. However, you’ve no doubt felt that words were inadequate for the weight of the situation. This verse has helped me cope during those difficult times.

‭‭Proverbs 10:7 NLT‬‬
[7] We have happy memories of the godly, but the name of a wicked person rots away.

This is important. We have happy memories of the godly. Those who lived a life for God leave us with happy memories of them. We can celebrate their lives knowing the eternity that awaits them. Yes, for some, these are still mere words, but for the godly, this is hope. For us, it is peace of mind. To our family of believers, this is a reminder of God’s faithfulness.

That doesn’t mean that it isn’t hard still. What it does mean is that there’s peace and hope even in the midst of grief.

Daughters Diary Podcast

Idolatry… It’s hard to believe we have idols today, but when you actually think about it, it’s not. We may not carve images and bow before them, but we do dedicate hours upon hours to them. We do choose them over what’s best for us. We make sacrifices for them.

So ask yourself, is there an idol in your life? Is there something you are willing to admit that you choose over God? Tune in as I had to have this conversation with myself. The answer broke my heart.
