So I talked with my landlord, and he was fine with me putting in some plants around the edge of the lawn.
I cleaned up one side of the yard, and got some Coast of Maine lobster compost and cow manure compost and added them to the garden.
The whole reason I started this was because I mentioned to my landlord that I was thinking of doing a few tomato plants in pots.
He had no problems with it, and actually gave me some plants!
So I had some seeds from the community garden last year, (yeah, still pissed about them) so I saw what I had.
Still had some seeds for Thai Dragons, beans, peas, radishes, carrots, zucchini, cucumbers… and that’s not even all of them! Plus I saved some Habanero seeds.
I had started some Thai Dragons and Habaneros in some flower boxes, and I have had a couple sprout already. I tried planting a few more seeds, but no luck as of yet. If I don’t have any luck with the new seeds, I’ll transplant one of the pepper plants into the other box, and do radishes in the one not being used.
My tomato plants are doing very well! They’re actually even bigger than this, they even have a few flowers starting!
As for the rest of the garden, I put some herb seeds (2 kinds of basil, chives, and oregano) in, and made a row of peas and green beans.
I talked with the neighbors in my building, as the yard is accessible to both apartments, and they loved the idea, and even bought peppers, cilantro and spearmint! I put the cilantro and spearmint with the other herbs, and planted the peppers on the other side of the peas and beans.
They look really good, and they already had some flowers on them! They’ve even started to open up, so that’s a great sign! I put a couple zucchini seeds next to them, so they should start going shortly.
In the last part, I put some cucumbers next to the fence, 2 rows of carrots, and some yellow beans.
I’ll probably plant some carrots between some of the other plants, as a border between sections, and to use more of the space that I have.
So that’s all I have to show you today and I’ll keep you updated on the growth! But until then, I’ll be here, just Chuck’n Dirt…
