Burger N’ Fries Forever (BFF)

When it comes to weaknesses in food, burgers have always been at the top of our list. It is not just the multitude of flavours that fascinate us, but simply the combination of ingredients sandwiched between two buns. It’s incredible. And of course, our favourite part; the meat. So yeah, we’ve been to quite a few burger places as part of our quest for the best.

One of the places we encountered was Burger N’ Fries Forever, with locations in both Ottawa and Toronto. Their menu is catered specifically for each location, with a lot of dishes available in both branches. In addition, they have a secret menu as well and if you do your due diligence before visiting the place, it would pay off when you order one of their secret dishes.

As it was our first time, we stuck to their regular menu and ordered two burgers and one fries. The ones we sampled were The Original and The Spicy Bold BBQ along with their Elegant Fries. While The Original Burger wasn’t exactly bursting with flavours, we can say that at least the meat was cooked to perfection. It was juicy, succulent and soft and our tastebuds definitely got a treat.

There was a lot more happening with The Spicy Bold BBQ burger. The beef bacon mixed with the BBQ sauce was a wholesome combination and we thoroughly enjoyed the taste. It was neither dry nor compromising in flavour, so that was nice. Our only real critic with the burgers would be the size, as they are not exactly of a generous portion. It gets done in a few bites and we found ourselves wanting something perhaps a little bigger.

IMG_1874

These ‘Elegant Fries’ found on their menu certainly have a classy dressing topped with rosemary and parmesan cheese. It’s not a mixture we’ve sampled before and we’re glad we took a shot with this one. The fries were the right amount of crisp was not oily or greasy in any way. The taste of the rosemary was a nice and light touch.

We can’t wait to pay these guys another visit and try some more options from their vast menu! Or even just for the fries, to be honest.

hashi

This recently opened restaurant in Oud Metha is all the buzz right now. Offering an Asian fusion cuisine, the food at Hashi was definitely one of our favourites. They are conveniently located right next to Lamcy Plaza, with pleasant interiors.

We started off with their Crunchy Asian Salad and Edamame beans. Being a fan of salads, one of us Seekers thoroughly enjoyed the texture and feel of this dish. It was enriched with crispy noodles, all sorts of leaves and with a generous portion of dressing. The beetroot topping made it even better. Basically, it was what one would call a healthy and delicious plate.

It was our first time trying out Edamame beans, and we were not disappointed. Although, we do wish the flavour had been a little more evident.

Another fave was their Chicken Bao. A good filling and the bun was insanely soft. The chicken was well-cooked and we can’t wait to check out their beef option next time! They also have the option for mushrooms.

IMG_8810

We also sampled their Ramen Miso Soup, but unfortunately, did not find anything tantalising about it. It did not taste as good as other ramen that we’ve had, and was slightly oily. They could have done a lot more to get the flavours going and the proportion of broth and ingredients was not even.

IMG_8816

The total highlight of all the dishes was the Crispy Crab Maki. Lots of flavour, loved the meat and undoubtedly a must-try if you decide to visit Hashi.

world food expo 2018 – lulu hypermarket

To say that there is a lot to explore at the World Food Expo being held at Lulu, is truly an understatement. Cuisines from all over the world are available under one roof, thus providing an amazing experience for the consumer. Whether it’s meat, fish, vegetarian or sweet dishes that you’re looking for, they’ve got it all.

We were offered a sample of many options at the Bloggers’ Meet, starting with some delicious sushi. Moving on, we were introduced to a wide range of salads, sandwiches, and curries, which included tastes of Indian, Chinese, Arabic, Thai and many more. Almost 40 types of spices are imported from various countries that are mixed in with the in-house products.

To kick off this amazing festival, there was a celebratory 28 kg cake prepared for the occasion as well! It was totally one of the biggest cakes we had ever seen, and the intricate work and effort which had gone into it, was quite evident. We and our fellow bloggers enjoyed this part of the tour for sure!

If this wasn’t enough to peak your interest, the Lulu Bakery is a whole other story. With products and ingredients sourced from other countries, including Austria, Germany, India, Spain, US, Indonesia and Belgium, this is a hub that reaches out to the mass crowd. Additionally, there is plenty to choose from from the organic and vegan options. Their sweets and bread are worth a try, especially when khubz is offered with a tasty side of pomegranate labneh.

For all the cheese lovers, they have over 100 different types of cheese to check out, like organic cheddar, blue cheese, feta, roquefort and more.

the noodle house

One of the things we liked about this restaurant was how we were instantly fascinated by the interiors. Before we got to ordering our food, there were some interesting design patterns to be noticed. The place was a little too dimly lit for our liking, but we get that they wanted to create a certain mood.

Funnily enough, we had always passed by this place whenever we visited Burjuman Centre. Finally it was our wish for some Asian soul food that lured us here.

We started off with two drinks, both of which were so refreshing for our palette. The shape of the glass, combined with the non-plastic usage for the straws, definitely got some bonus points from us. The mocktail flavours were really nice and we loved the colour mixes.

One Seeker went with the Pad Thai while the other sampled some Black Pepper Beef. Let me start by pointing out that the noodles had a good mix to provide a nice presentation. And from first glances, a generous potion as well, including the prawns and tofu which were a part of the dish. That being said, the flavour was not strong enough to entice our tastebuds. It tasted much like any other Pad Thai I’ve had, except that this was more on the pricey side.

IMG_5114

We would have to say the same about the beef. Good portion, but not all that creative with the presentation. The beef would have been pretty great, if the meat had been slightly less chewy. The rice was a wise addition to go with the meat, which blended well with the black pepper sauce.

IMG_5118

Luckily, our main course was undoubtedly trumped by the dessert we had, which was the Japanese Cotton Cheesecake. Beautiful presentation, soft and fluffy texture and the raspberry compote was awesome. This is one cheesecake you must not miss, if you visit the place.

To sum it up, we did like the food overall, but did not enjoy it enough to say that it was worth the price. If there are other dishes of theirs you guys loved, let us know!

the meating room

There are so many places popping up at the Al Wasl area in Karama, and The Meating Room is truly one of the best ones! The name itself is a cool wordplay, already calling out to all the meat lovers out there. A one time visit wasn’t enough to try out everything, but we’re looking forward to going back soon.

To begin with the starters, we had two items; Crunch Karo and Shiny Disco Fries. The first one is for those with a cheese craving, easily satisfied with its taste and capsuled within crispy papad kernels. Absolutely delicious mix, if you ask us.

That being said, the fries were the real highlight for us. Not only is it sizzled, but has a colourful and tempting array of toppings, including bell peppers, cheese, beans and if you want, you can also choose to have lamb mince chilli.

For the wings, we were looking forward to trying Jacob’s Inferno for it sounded to be the most spicy, but we couldn’t due to unavailability. Hence we went with the Harissa Wings and while it was delicious, we wouldn’t say it’s a must-have. The Bihari Bhaiya on the other hand, from the BBQ section was amazing! The chicken was absolutely succulent with wholesome flavours.

IMG_4514

We ordered their Grilled Chicken Biryani from the main course side. We found the grilled meat with the biryani to be a good combo, but didn’t feel that the rice was enriched with the right spices. Next time, we’ll definitely get our hands on the Mutton Keema Dum.

Overall, mouthwatering food at affordable prices and a cool experience!

the blacksmith

To say that these two Seekers love meat would be an understatement. Nothing gets us going like a restaurant that really knows how to please our tastebuds for it. One such spot is The Blacksmith, Dubai’s newest smokehouse located at Marina. Honestly, if any of you is a fan of the delicious smoked flavour, you are in for a treat.

From the starters’ section, we asked to try the Smoked Chilli Wings, Beef Sliders and Dusted Fries. Having tasted chicken wings from many other places, we can declare with the utmost certainty that these were some of the most delectable wings ever, if not the best. The smokiness could be relished from each bite, along with the right portion of sauce and topped with peppercorns. A must-have for sure.

Moving on to the sliders, those were pretty great too. We especially liked the fact that they used a croissant bread rather than the regular burger bun as opposed to the usual style, which was quite cool. The beef was cooked well and provided a good filling. As for the fries, there wasn’t anything that particularly stood out, though they had a nice amount of crisp.

They have some good options for the main course, starting from chicken to octopus and duck. As per the recommendations from our server, we decided to go with the Texas Brisket Sandwich and BBQ Lamb Short Rib.

Not going to lie, we fell in love with both these dishes. The brisket was not only of a huge quantity, but the beef was simply juicy, tender goodness whose flavour was just heightened by the smoked technique. If you’re looking to finish this sandwich on your own, you might want to show up with an empty stomach.

IMG_4811

The short rib was amazing too. A generous quantity to go with the price and with the meat being super soft, the BBQ flavour was a wonderful addition. We were glad to have tried these options.

IMG_4806

And last but not least, we couldn’t leave without ending with a dessert. We went with The Crazy Choco Waffo Experience. It sure was delicious, with waffles topped with chocolate sauce, bananas and cream. However, there was nothing extravagant or creative about it. It felt and tasted like any other ordinary dessert.

To sum it up, our dining experience here was brilliant.

the inventing room

It was a perfectly lovely day at Kite Beach, and we had just finished our burgers for lunch. But as one Cuisine Seeker would like to put it, no meal is complete without ending it on a sweet note. With that in mind, we walked the trail over to The Inventing Room truck.

We were greeted by friendly staff and a menu with names of dishes that sounded insanely creative. Our only regret was that we didn’t get a chance to try them all. We headed straight for the drinks, having gotten ourselves a Harry Potter Butterbeer Float and Frozen Hot Chocolate.

For all the Potterheads out there, the Butterbeer Float is a must-have. It had that delicious buttery and tangy taste and the vanilla ice-cream as a topping was a really good mix.

The Hot Chocolate was awesome as well. The topping was gorgeous and we easily relished all the chocolate goodness.

One of their most innovative items is undoubtedly the Really, Really Cold Cheetos. With the nitrogen trend heavy in the air among restaurants, we’re glad these guys have come up with their own twist too. The presentation is just the tip of the iceberg and we definitely urge everyone to give this one a try!

salt

We’re probably a little late to the Salt party, but still better than never, right? The burger trend for Salt has been going on for years now, and it certainly doesn’t appear like it’ll stop anytime soon. But here’s possibly an unpopular opinion:

We did not find these sliders to be the worth all the excessive hype.

Are you judging us right now or secretly agreeing with us? Don’t get us wrong, it tasted really good, but after hearing about all the rave reviews on social media platforms, it just did not reach up to that level. In short, we’ve had better. However, we will say that we would have been missing out if we hadn’t tried it even once.

So, here’s what we ordered. We decided to go for the Chicken Cheetos Slider, and the Original Salt (with wagyu beef). The chicken tasted great, but there wasn’t enough portion of the cheetos and it lacked that spicy, tangy flavour.

IMG_4386

The same could be said about the beef burger. The meat was well-cooked, but it was pretty much overpowered by the cheese and hence, was deprived of that succulent filling that is a trademark of sliders.

IMG_4385

We visited the branch located at Kite Beach, and absolutely loved the ambience. Winter’s definitely the time to head out over there, but be prepared to find a packed place. It took us a while to get a proper seating. All in all, we’re glad to have tried out one of the much talked about food trucks in town.

state 88

There are just so many food gems at City Walk Dubai, that we definitely need a couple of days to indulge in them all. One of these amazing places is State 88, their speciality being all sorts of delicious sandwiches. In a nutshell; it’s good food at a good price.

The interiors alone are fun and quirky. It’s designed in a way that gives off cool vibes and a feel of all that they have to offer. Highly innovative decor that makes it seem like you’ve stepped away from Dubai. Not to mention, we were really pleased with the friendly and helpful staff.

One of the sandwiches we went for was the Checkpoint 88, which comprised of smoked brisket, mozzarella cheese and jalapeño pickles. It was awesome and one we’d recommend from their ‘From The Smokehouse’ section of the menu. The other option we sampled was the Chickita, which was filled with roasted chicken, sweetcorn, pickles and soy sauce. You can find this tasty mix on their ‘From The Chicken Inn’ part of the menu.

As for the sides, we tried the Fries 88, along with the Homemade Mint Lemonade. The fries were combined with their own spice mix, which added a nice touch to accompany the sandwiches.

gourmet burger kitchen

For the both of us, burger is synonymous with comfort food. We just have to get our fix every once in a while and we’re always on the hunt for some awesome burger joints. One of these, is most certainly the Gourmet Burger Kitchen. For a first time experience, it wowed us.

They have convenient locations at Dubai Marina Mall, Mirdif and Financial Centre. After seeing a lot about this place, we were glad we had our own share of the fun.

The ambience and interior alone is quite quirky and interesting for burger enthusiasts. It showed that they were dedicated to their cuisine and making the diner feel right at home.

We began our meal with an order of their Hot Wings and Chicken Chilli Fried Bites. The wings were absolutely delicious, even if it did not match up to our level of spice requirement. The fried bites on the other hand, were a disappointment. There was no absolutely no flavour of spice or anything different about it, and we would not recommend it for even a one-time try.

Moving on to our favourite part; the burgers! In short, they were utterly delicious. Though they had a wide range of options to choose from, we went with one of their classics, the Jalapeño Overload. It was so good. Not only did they cook the meat according to our preference, but the mix of cheese and sauces was great. The other one we opted for was The Taxi Driver, also fulfiling for our tastebuds and cravings.
