A dozen years of blogging

It’s officially been 12 years since I started blogging!

My posts have taken many forms over the years – my original blog (you are here!), a book review blog (The Page Dreamer), a more active Bookstagram time … perhaps some Substack in the future?

There have been ups and downs, busy posting times when I was full of ideas (and the time with which to share them), and slower times with long waits between posts.

And even though the posting has moved here and there throughout the interwebs over time, I still look back on September 9, 2013 as the start of a time of sharing with the world my thoughts on story in all its forms – whether personal anecdotes, books, my own writing, or even thoughts on stories on the screen.

Posting in any form has shifted softly to the back burner, to simmer quietly in the background while life goes on and I try to juggle all the things that teenage me a dozen years ago didn’t have to deal with. But that’s okay.

And I hope that these softly simmering thoughts will one day make their way across your feed again, perhaps to even share a physical publication one of these days…

In the meantime, thank you, dear reader, for reading.

May the road rise to meet you. 💚

A Break and Things I’m Looking Forward To

Now that March Magics is over and I caught up on a couple things I wanted to share (including some favorite-books posts on my book blog!), I’m bowing out of socials/the blogosphere for awhile again.

SO! To stave off my FOMO (fear of missing out), here are some things I’ll say in advance based on things my calendar says are coming up but I may not be online for! (Or I may. Just…no promises. 😂)

Photo of art like a phoenix, a dragon, and a Captain America shield that says HERO. Also pens and notebooks.
(Phoenix art by Micheline Ryckman. Hero art by Beth Wangler. Drax Guard “Fear No Fire” sticker available on C.M. Banschbach’s shop.)

Ducking back out for a bit, like I said in my previous post, to focus on life, family, work, and hopefully writing.

Have a great rest of the spring and summer! Thanks for reading!

2025’s Word: Phoenix (Goals/Encouragement)

11th Blogiversary + Giveaway! (The Windward King by K.T. Ivanrest)

Happy 11th birthday to this li’l old blog of mine!

Hard to believe I’ve been blogging since 2013.

And what better way to celebrate than to give away a copy of my top-favorite book I read last year!

Namely . . . The Windward King by K.T. Ivanrest.

The Windward King defies description and is one of my most favorite books. Buddy story, characters I adored (Shara! Korith! Tishel!), shapeshifting, castles, pirates, royalty…this has it all! Plus delicious twists, snark and humor, and a heartfelt theme of self-worth. I reference Shara and Korith all the time. I just love this book so much!

You need this book in your life. You just doooo! Everybody must meet Shara and Korith and experience this stupendous adventure. I wish I could give away a MILLION copies. But at least one is a start! 😉

Since I don’t happen to have the shape-shifting character Shara from this book around (he has been known to look like a cat!), I settled for my cat Callette to stand in for Shara’s fluffiness! (She’s NOT included in the giveaway, sorry. XD)

Check out the giveaway HERE (US only, ends 9/30/24).

Thanks for reading my Road of a Writer blog and celebrating my eleven years of blogging with me! ^_^

About The Windward King

He can change how he looks—but not who he is.

All his life, Shara has struggled to keep up with the rest of his shapeshifter clan. A poor shifter with little talent and even less confidence, he excels only at inadequacy.

When his determination to prove himself results in the brutal injury of a clanmate, Shara flees his home in shame. Taking refuge in the human capital city, he resolves to become as inconsequential as possible—until the prince regent is abducted days before his coronation and Shara is forced to take his place.

Thrust into a world of controlling advisors, scheming pirates, and calculating dignitaries, Shara fumbles through his royal duties. His next mistake could spell disaster for the entire kingdom, but he may also be the only person capable of seeing beyond old prejudices to the truth of the prince’s disappearance.

But if he’s going to stop a war, find the prince, and return to his life of invisibility, he’ll have to rely on the one person he knows for sure he can’t trust—himself.
