When he was 13 years old, Joe was diagnosed with scoliosis, a curvature of the spine that progressively worsens with age. After seeing several doctors, surgery was determined to be the best option.
Unfortunately, something went wrong during the surgery, and Joe came out of it with partial paraplegia. His condition worsened and eventually became complete paraplegia by the mid-2000s. Joe has used a wheelchair ever since....
