Delightfully Charmed

New domain and actual posting! One Full Turn

I have been on a book reading streak in keeping up with my goal of reading at least 50 books this year and I am really enjoying the Southern Vampire Mysteries (or, Sookie Stackhouse novels) by Charlaine Harris. The HBO series True Blood is based on the novels. I haven’t seen True Blood yet, but I plan to once I finish catching up in the books first. I love it. It is much much better than Twilight. I am ashamed of myself for having read the Twilight series.

The Twilight series was like watching a horrible accident. You know it’s horrible and this will destroy your mind but you simply HAVE TO WATCH. It is like those people on the highway who end up rubbernecking and then causing longer delays in the road. Those people are my pet peeve and reading Twlight is like the same thing. It is HORRIBLE and you CANNOT TURN AWAY. Oh the shame.

But anyway the Sookie Stackhouse novels are much much better.

I have only read two so far, but I am loving it. Please don’t be like Twlight Ms. Harris.

We love the layout of this house (I did NOT take this photo, FYI. The builders did):

The difference would be that we would add a side entry garage and probably do a slightly modified front…but the general idea is there. Tonight we went with my mom to look at the model once again and she approved the house’s feng shui. This is a pretty big deal, especially for superstitious Chinese women (me included!).

On Friday we’re going to look at another model to see if that one is meant to be.

I’m not sure if we really will buy or build a new house, but this time we are really truly seriously considering it.

It’s been kind of a crazy month for our family. There are lots of decisions to be had and made, including my job/future and Brian’s job/future.

I love Big Fish games. I have actually played quite a good chunk of their games and I am in the midst of Mystery Case Files: Return to Ravenhearst

They are my weakness. Once I get a Big Fish game, I usually will play it and finish it within the day, or couple of days.

Some of my favorites:

  • the Diner Dash series
  • the Mystery Case Files series
  • the Cake Mania series

Pretty much anything that has to do with Time Management and Hidden Object search will keep me occupied.

Why am I such a dork?

While most women think they have the most romantic love stories with their significant others, I like to think of our relationship a bit humorously.

Take a couple of weeks ago, for instance, when I was expressing my concern over my ditziness. I whined, “I am such a blonde!” (No offense to my dear readers or friends who happen to be blonde, but I was stereotyping)

Brian patted my black hair gently. “It’s okay, at least it’s in the inside where no one can tell.”

Today we headed out to meet with the new home-builder rep to discuss the plans and goals of what we want with our potential future house. Because the neighborhood we have been admiring is more “exclusive” they are not sure if they can accommodate the home plan that we love. In the meantime, she did price out a similar house and it is a bit more than what we want to spend. But then there is the argument that the area we will be in has excellent school systems and great location which will be great if and when in the future we decide to sell the house. I am torn, Brian is torn. On Friday we’re heading up to Williamsburg to see their model of the house we had priced out and I guess go from there. I can’t believe we are thinking about this seriously.

We also met with a potential future wedding client and then my brother came over to cook steaks! Brian made the potatoes and I made Pioneer Woman’s Whiskey (or, in our case, Rum) Raisin Cake and it was all fabulous. It was especially charming to have both the men do the cooking even though I was repeatedly called back into the kitchen.

To top of the evening, Brian and I just watched The Mummy, Tomb of the Dragon Emporer and I honestly hope that no one considers that accurate Chinese history. It was typical Mummy movie, full of cheesiness, but enough to numb the mind a bit from all the other big decisions we have coming up.

Today we spent the day looking into new construction homes and checking out a few places in the county. Ideally I’d like to stay in the same city where we are located, but we did find the “perfect” house that would suit our current requirements. The problem is that while it is a new house and perfectly within our price range, I am not crazy about the city where it is located.

We also headed out and checked out a couple of other new construction sites and I am not sure if those are what we are looking for either. I don’t want a “McMansion” but I don’t want to compromise on a nice home either. It’s not that we must have a new construction house either, but there is a neighborhood in our city that we have been eyeing for a while now and tomorrow we will see if the builder of the model home we saw today would be willing to build it in the community we prefer.

My photo of the day is the model/floor plans of houses. This is a BIG decision:

No photo for Day 2, but I had a lovely evening tonight. It started with some Wii Mario Kart time with my nephew and my brother. The cutest moment was when I made a sad comment about losing to my brother and Brian, my sweet little 4 year old nephew hugged me and said, “It’s okay!” It was a really tender moment for me and melted my cold cold heart.

Later on we met up with my coworker/friend B. and his friend S. (who coincidentally works with Brian) for sushi and man was I stuffed! We had edamame, soup, salad, the dream boat (huge boat with assortment of rolls and sashimi) and talked before heading over to our house for a small bit of Rock Band 2 on the Wii and Smarty Pants (Brian won both rounds).

Unfortunately for me, I was wearing my cute new shoes purchased yesterday and as we were walking into the house I slipped on the semi-frozen/wet deck and thankfully did not break any bones or develop strange sprains. It was just another moment in my clumsy life.

Overall a lovely evening that took away the blahness of my work and hopefully a sign of good things in the new year (minus the slipping)!

What a perfect way to start the new year than an outing with my mom. We spent the day eating Dim Sum at our local favorite Chinese restaurant in the city, followed by mall visiting and shopping. There were some crazy amazing deals at Dillards, and I found the perfect pair of shoes to go with my trouser pants and dress. The best deal was that it originally retailed for $100+, but with their awesome sales, it came out to $28 (tax included).

What a way to kick off the new year!
