Nikkie Rose is a student at Southern New Hampshire University pursuing a degree in Creative Writing/Screenwriting. Having been diagnosed with Bipolar II in 2009, she felt led to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. To share her experiences with others struggling with mental health, she is currently working on a book of poetry Through My Eyes, In My Mind; as well as having completed a short screenplay titled The Strength Within Her. Nikkie is a member of the International English Honor Society for high achievement in writing.

As a person of society that struggles with mental illness I think that it is very important to breakdown those stigmas that have been built up for centuries. Unlike a physical illness, mental illness is not understood in how it works. For me, as an author, I feel it is important to create a sense of community and inclusion to those that struggle personally or who are personally affected by the results of knowing someone with a mental illness. My goal through sharing my writing with you is to help create that sense of community by sharing my struggles, fears, and triumphs so that others, like me, can gain a sense of not feeling so isolated and alone.
