Der Orchideengarten Vol. 2 No. 1 begins the 2nd year of the worlds first illustrated fantasy magazine published in 1919 in Germany by Karl Hans Strobl. This issue contains the stories and poems: The Anniversary, Viktor Dyk; The Faithful Wives, Klabund; The Ash Urn, Wilhelm Nhil; Fear Dream, Oskar Maria Graf; Agnes Maria, Georg P.M. Roose; Journey into the Brain, Hellmuth Unger. Translations by Joe E. Bandel. Layout and design by John Hirschhorn-Smith. This is the first time these stories have been translated into English.
The project I am currently working on is the collected works of Leonhard Stein who is considered by some to be as good as Hanns Heinz Ewers and Karl Hans Strobl. Unfortunately it seems he published three novellas and then disappeared never to be seen again! I have access to all three small books and have translated about half of The Fire Lilly a couple years ago but never finished it. Now I’m working on The Ballet of Death which is a slim volume of short stories. The final novella is The Flutist and I have no idea what to expect from it. My last Deadly Days – Tales of Dark Fantasy podcast included Vampyre which is one of the short stories in this collection. The entire collection should only be around 300 pages.

This is the first time these stories have been translated into English and published with the original artwork.

Right now I figure that I have around 3 years worth of short stories already translated and am currently translating more!Issue 12 of Der Orchideengarten has been translated and being put together for publication. I’m currently working on Issue 13 and Lemuria Book II by Karl Hans Strobl.
I hope to have Lemuria Book II done this summer and of course monthly issues of Der Orchideengarten! Immediately after that come Hanns Heinz Ewers Vol 3 which will contain even more high quality stories that have never been translated.
