SEXUAL HARRASMENT IS A REALITY.

A BITTER TRUTH.

It exists everywhere, from slums to opulent areas, within family and friends or among strangers and foes.

It has victimized people of all ages and genders, especially women and children.

Many stories of harassment have surfaced over social, especially after the #MeToo campaign. But that has merely highlighted the problem instead of actually resolving it.

Plus, over social media a case of harassment only gets heard or reaches the surface if either or both the parties are famous or known. Like in the case of Meesha and Ali. And Umer Khan aka Ukhano in recent days.

But I bet, there are millions of cases of harrasments which remains silent, unheard or unspoken.

So, it would be accurate to say that it’s a growing problem which needs to be resolved.

BUT HOW?

In my opinion, the following actions need to be taken, the sooner the better.

Awareness and Education:

It’s about time we should discuss these problems openly and remove the “taboo/log kya kahain ge” tag off.

I suggest, it should be made part of the formal education in schools and colleges. Specially schools.

Children from very young age should be made aware of the definition of “sexual harrasment”. A lot of times the victims don’t even know that they are the victims.

Ignorance or being unaware of a problem is a bigger problem.

Children, especially boys, should be thought the concept of “consent” and its importance and necessity.

We need to remove the stigma of “she was asking for it”, or “she had it coming”. A lot of emphasis should be made on “consent” because that’s what defines and distinguishes harrasment.

Law Making:
I’m not aware of the harassment laws in Pakistan. I don’t know how clear or applicable they are. It is an issue that needs to be addressed at the parliament. Clear laws and regulations needs to be made and implementation should be made sure.

Precedent:
A precedent of sexual predator going behind bars needs to be set, including and especially the cyber bulliers/predators.

I’m not against exposing sexual predators over social media, it needs to be done. But a step further needs to be taken.

A lot of stories has surfaced over social media and has faded away with time without any outcome.

The victims need to take these bastards to the cleaners, if not each and everyone of them, but for starters atleast a single precedent needs to be set, as an example and warning to the all the predators out there.

Atleast, they should think twice before harassing someone.

The precedent of justice to a victim of harrasment, might also break the fear and silence of the victims in the future.

There might be a million of other ways to counter this problem. But I think these three actions needs to taken immediately.

Time never waits for anyone, it keeps on going in a straight path with no turns, but today is a day I wish it did.

Yes, I wish to turn back and experience it all again. The bitter and the sweet, the ups and the downs, the comfort and the pain, the successes and the failures, the laughter and the cries, I want it all back. I want to do lots which I did not, say all the things that remained unsaid.

But, it will all remain a wish, as time never waits for anyone, it keeps on going.

But one thing that I control is the memories, and I shall carry it, all of it, wherever time takes me.

My prediction for the rest of Game of Thrones.

Daenerys will attack the city in rage which will result in a blood bath.

This act of her will cost her, her life, as Varys will conspire to kill Dany and bring Jon in power.

Cersei will eventually die and Jon will sit on the iron throne.

So, Ramadhan is here. It is said that the Satin gets locked up during this holy month, but I don’t think that it makes much difference because something worse than satin still remains on the loose, aka The Humans.

Those who plan to fast during this month, I wish them strength, but that doesn’t give one the right to make the life of those miserable who don’t.
To fast or not to fast is one’s personal choice, it’s their life and their choice. One has no right to ask or lecture an individual(s) who choses not to fast.

By observing fast, one doesn’t do a favor on anybody, so one should not expect any kind of special treatment. No need to quarrel if somebody eats or drinks in front of you. If one can’t bear the sight of somebody eating or drinking while one is fasting, then just look the other way.

And avoiding eating and drinking is just a part of fasting, there is much more to it, try to focus on that too. Don’t let your Roza (fast) resemble a “Faqqa”.

Make it significant.

Make it count.

I’m sure that everyone of you have heard lines like “It’s all Gods’ Plan, let everything to God” multiple times in your life. I have hard time to agree with that.

What happens of us in life or the problems or comforts that come our way has more to do with our own decisions rather than “The plan of God”.

It is us, who decide our fate, including life and death, not GOD. If everything that has happened in the past or what is happening in the present or what’s to happen in the future is upto God to decide then what is the purpose of our existence.

I don’t even believe that there is such as thing as “The Plan of God”, or I hope it is so. If God is responsible for all the mess and sufferings in this world then I have got nothing to do with a GOD like that, whose plan is to make its creatures suffer.

But it is not God who decides, its us who decide, to love or to kill.

So, Maulana Tariq Jameel, have been invited at Punjab University today to conduct a sermon and due to which classes of all the departments between 10 a.m to 2 p.m. was cancelled.
I have got nothing against Tariq Jameel or religious sermons, but what I’m against is “imposition”. Today I had no say in deprivation of my classes whether I wanted to attend the sermon or not.

Secondly, another unfair aspect is the freedom, special treatment and protocol the religious, or in other words #TheRightWing, content gets while there is a complete restriction and crack down on the alternative perspective, or in other words #TheLeftWing.
Let me make it simpler with an example, had it been people like Taimur Rahman, Ammar Ali Jan or #AliWazir, getting this level of freedom and protocol is far off question, they wouldn’t have even been allowed to speak. Such privileges are only available for the likes of #OryaMaqboolJan or #TariqJameel.
There is no room for alternative views. This is what I’m against, complete freedom to one perspective while complete crack down on the other. This act, on itself is very Undemocratic and Un-Islamic.

The so called “Only Atomic Muslim Power” in the world, Writ of the State, especially of the Armed Forces, Supremacy of the Law, the
Supreme court and the Parliament, Rights of the minorities, (the idea/basis upon which this land was established), Right of safety of general public, all knelt and burned into ashes before a handful of religious fanatics and bearded bigots. An entire nation dictated by a bunch of religious goons.

It’s one of many occasions where I feel ashamed to call myself a Pakistani.
