What is e-bloat? Google yourself and see how many times your names comes up, how far back your name and activites go, and how ask yourself, how much of that is relevant?
I actually removed my Linked-In profile a few weeks ago after and incident whichs hit home to me how much e-bloat there is out here.
I had been asked to sit on a panel-interview for a govt department and when the candidate turned up he had researched each of the interviewees (which is the norm ) but then as he was introduced to each of us he rattled off a whole lot of information about us. EG Hi Bonnie – now, I know you grew up in Trundle, Went to SCU, work for Computer Troubleshooters etc etc
He went around the whole panel with this shit – he was 30’ish, we were all 50’ish – and we were all amazed that we was so garralous and keen to show that he had researched us.
I thought about this blokes blathering and then realised that we all put that information out there – we have all happily profiled, emailed, filled in forms, contributed to on-line discussions, face-booked, Linked-in etc over the years and now face the possibility that we have a whole lot of rubbish or irrelevant information out ther about ourselves which does not really reflect who we are, but from a cyber point-of-view, that’s what is the sum of us! How do we manage this mess and better still , teach our kids to manage it so that in years to come some silly teenage stuff won’t reflect poorly on them when they are applying for scholarships or jobbs.
