WEEK 10: VIDEO PRESENTATION

Published 29/05/2012 by Aqila Qira-chan

HI~!!!!

This would probably be the last post for this semester!

This weeks class starts early than usual. Not really happy with that because I actually have class from 8-10 in the morning. No one to blame actually since there was a class at 11 at the dewan budiman. Once my Arabic class finished, me, Peng, Fana and Kay rushed to the class only to find they already start discussing the exam paper n actually almost finished.

I was extremely clueless on what they were discussing at first but managed to catch up….Thanks to Kirah and Chigi who briefed a bit about what they were doing. Then, before the video start, we were given some papers or evaluating form to evaluate our friend. I was shocked at the evaluating form. The criteria was…I don’t een know if I would be able to do it. I didnt prepare anything for the presentation. I quickly tried to remember somethings about ur video and jotted down.

Whew a close one. Today, Aiman and Solah didn’t manage to come because they have a college activity at Langkawi. Envy them. But…we must go on fighting (dramatic much ain’t I). Samm group went 1st. Since I was too nervous about our video, I didn’t really focus but I think they did good. Our group was next~!!!!

Audio problem…a bit of transition problem…How could I not be worried? I even slept late the night before to do the final editing. The video finished early and have been finished edited the week before but reviewing the time, we did some correction and add some into our video. I gave a brief presentation about our video and the task we all did during the video production. When the video was played, I was super embarrassed looking at myself being the host. I could even see how embarrassed Luq2 look seeing himself on the big screen. Though, I was really proud looking at all our hardwork of the video being played…The result was great. I can’t even imagine the video was made by us~ Might not be perfect but GREAT~

A bit about our video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QkytT-R3GZ4&feature=youtu.be

We got an excellence. A joke from Dr. Rosseni that we could change our career cracked me up…haha…We even got great response from the other group and Encik Helmi. He added that if we add some song on the speech, it would be better. However, he LOVES it…Actually, the success of our video was beside the hardwork, we applied everything we learn from video shooting, video editing and even photo shop in our project. Everyting we learn, we put in our work~ SPAQL Food Hunter’s hardwork meeting every week really did pay off. I couldn’t help myself as I immediately texted the great news to Solah and Aiman which they enjoyed too….

I really really enjoy working with my group mate. Working with them on this video didn’t seem much like work but rather an exciting thing. Everytime we meet, instead of stress, we had great laugh editing the video, finding pictures, resolving problems, choosing the best songs…and even the trip to Putrajaya was great. WE DID IT GUYS.

The group that gave me an awe that day was totally Vee’s group. THEY WERE EXCELLENT. I wonder how did they do it. I really love their work. Anyway, Dr. Rosseni was kind enough to give us full mark IF we helped group 1 to improve their work. Thanks Dr.♥♥♥ However so far, we ask if they need any help and they said they’re doing just fine.

Since this is probably the last post, I would love to thanks ESPECIALLY to DR. Rosseni, Encik Helmi, Encik Yusuf, Encik Faisal, Cik Hazraty and all the lecturers that had participate during our whole semesters of class GGGE2153. We’ve learn a lot from you~ This class was really FUN and exciting as we explore new things that we don’t get anywhere else. I think the assessment given to us suit the course as I have been enjoying it. It is relevant to train future teacher like us to be aware of the technology which we might require in our future classroom whether as teaching aids or other purposeful use.

WEEK 9: VIDEO EDITING CLASS (SUNDAY)

Published 29/05/2012 by Aqila Qira-chan

Class on weekend…TIRED…The week was actually a full tiring week and I even skipped Arabic class on Saturday for the bengkel…But guess what, I’m not regretting it~ Somehow class on Sunday is actually fun especially when there are actually some progress with our video production. We’ll get to that later k?

Compared to others who have to wait for the bus, I’m quite lucky because my aunt was the one sent me for today’s class. No worries about going to class. Anyway, class start with all of us trying the Adobe Premier. Like yesterday’s class it was harder than movie maker…but somehow today it is really seems easy. I was amazed with all the effect it can give. It was great. We used the video Encik Helmi had prepared for us and edit it. We learn how to insert song on the video, layering image with pictures, put the name under during interview and fade in or fade out the clip. Basically it’s about compilling many videos through layering. It was really fun doing the video. All of us tried it. Since not all the computer have the software, we have to share.

Next he taught us how to record sound using sound booth. Recording voice was not a problem. The problem came later with the keyframe thingy which I have absolutely no idea how to do it. Again, patiently, he taught us step by step…errr…not getting it till the end. I think I’m going to stick with movie maker to edit the sound. Though I believe, if I can grasp the way to make full use of the sound booth, I might be able to create amazing sound for our video. However, I don’t think I’ll be using that since my computer doesn’t have the software.

Before I forgot, Encik Helmi taught us again on photoshop about the saturation/hue, filter, magnetic tools and refining edge just to complete yesterday’s class with En. Faisal. Then we’re given our own time to work with our video. I divide the work to my teammate.

Solah and Me: Story board

Haha…we really had a quarrel of idea during the discussion but I believe it’s for the betterment. I like working with Solah when generating Idea. We both had great idea and when we combine, it’s bombastic. She does not only accept but also review just like I review her idea. She is not afraid to comment on the idea. Anyway, our storyboard was a SUCCESS. It took awhile because we thought story board need pictures. We showed it to Mr. Helmi and he approved of it. The one we did without picture.

Image

Asri is in charge of looking for music which he didn’t manage to finish that day. Luqman and Peng is in charge of converting the video which was also a problem because our video is to big to use in the converter. Luqman showed good problem solving skills when he managed to download a converter that manage to convert our video. Aiman on the other hand video shoot the interview that we would be using in our video. She somehow was really good at capturing video. She had the skill and she knew the technique to handle the video. Apparently, the video we took during the fieldtrip to Putrajaya was not good. We need to go back to shoot again.

At last there are progress of our video. We managed to finish a little of our script too. After discussion, we planned on going with windows movie maker which is easier as we are more familiar with it.  This Sunday class wasn’t a bad idea after all. Encik Helmi was even kind enough to send us back to our college. Thanks very much for that.

Basically, the three days was three days of NEW experience.

Going places I never been to, Learning things I never learn, Knowing new things…especially in one of the field I enjoyed. (Yes, I love working with computer…be it exploring new software or modifying items using computer…I love what technologies can do and best of all when we operate it.) This three days of class open an opportunity for me to explore deeper into video and picture editing as a step to become more professional. Although we didn’t get to learn every single thing, I ‘l make sure to explore more as I finished our Food hunter’s video as Dr. Rosseni, Encik Helmi and Encik Faisal had prepared the basic of it.

I enjoyed the class very much and I don’t know any class as fun as this to be done on Sunday.

WEEK 8: PHOTOSHOP N VIDEO EDITING

Published 29/05/2012 by Aqila Qira-chan

Assalamualaikum~

How do you do?

Today’s post is about the photoshop class we experienced. First, I’m actually a beginner of photoshop. I knew a little bit about photoshop since I learn it from my brother and the internet for our literature assignment where we need to do a poster. I was struggling then especially in removing the image from the background. I’m perfectly unaware of the function of stroke and blur.

Anyway, the class taught us the easy way to remove an image from the background. Before this, I use the lasso tool which need REALLY REALLY deep attention. You could actually use magneto lasso or the magic wand tool which are WAY easier to do. They work by sensitivity to detect the colour and automatically mark the part we wish to crop. Then we learnt about layering where we combine photos into one right after we learn about layer. We can actually combine photo into one. I manage to try out boththings when I did a funny penguin standing at the bottom of the sea.

Image

I never realize until he told us that text also plays a big role. He showed examples and I noticed. Even the gap between letters help to make the effect reach the see-er. Later on, after we were explained about the effect and get to try the effect ourselves, then I know how to make it blur or have some feather effect on it. While we were at it and since I’m fast at catching on with the tutorial, I helped out Solah, Luqman and peng  by explaining step by step again on what En. Faisal taught us. We tried out many funny layering of pictures as I taught them. What a great fun.

Anyway, this class was actually done to help us for the task that we are assigned to for our coursework. We need to actually create a banner for our blog. This is actually quite useful in case we want to include it in our video. I actually like this kind of assessment because it let me try out on my creativity skills. First, we need to determine the size of our banner whereby mine is 950×200 pixels. I had trouble of figuring out what my theme of banner would be. At first I planned on having blue sky or japanese theme…since those two are my fav thing in the world. However, it doesn’t really suit my blog theme so I decided on black theme. Here are the photo I used for the banner making:

The last result is:~

I really had fun doing this…I even tried doing our group’s banner:

Image

After lunch, we had session with Encik Helmi explaining more about video transferring, video editing, audio editing and finalizing video. Video transferring as he said depend on the Video camera. It can either be in tape, mini disc or hard disc. Next, we are introduced to some video editing software including window movie maker and adobe premier where we learn to cut, arrange, adding effect and transition to the video. I have no problem following the class when we did movie maker since I have experience using movie maker for a class project during foundation a UITM. There are however some interesting function that I learnt during this class. On the other hand, adobe premier was hard. Apparently Transition can help makes a video look great and it can also DESTROY the video. You need to associate the suitable video with your clip. Having too much transition also makes your video look like an ameteur’s video. I can’t help but agree on that En. Helmi…I’ve seen some ideo wit too much transition and it makes me dizzy.

We also did audio editing through soundbooth I find extremely DIFFICULT. No matter how many time he explained, it was unbelievably hard. all those function seems like only professional can do it….It’s not Encik Helmi’s fault. He’s been trying hard and being very understanding to guide us step by step. It’s also probably due to the computer’s sound system is not really good. You can’t really hear clearly when you’re editing the sound.

I do enjoy this class because I love learning about video editing and photoshop. Not so much on the soundbooth though. I learn that there are far more interesting thing you can do with your video and pictures to make it great. This will help a lot during the video production of ours. I really appreciate Dr. Rosseni’s effort for making this class…If we want to do this outside, we might have to pay but she even prepared free food. I’ve always wanted to attend a photoshop class to learn more. It’s unfortunate we didn’t get to learn much but I hope if Dr. do this kind of thing again, I would be able to learn more professional technique so I can use it in the future.  It’s really a great experience learning new things in class.

WEEK 7: PUTRAJAYA OUTING

Published 29/05/2012 by Aqila Qira-chan

Assalamualaikum and hello~

Did you have a nice day?

This post will reflect the exciting days we’ve had during our visit at Putrajaya. To be honest the only place I’ve been to these days in Putrajaya are only ERL whenever I send my aunt when she wants to go to the airport or Alamanda for movies. I’ve never been to other part of Putrajaya. The trip really gave me new experience as I discover the beauty of Putrajaya through day and night. However, it would be perfect if it weren’t raining that day.

Anyway, our trip was quite late than expected. I was there at 2 yet we only moved around 3. On the way, we, known to be fun-lover + photogenic, couldn’t help taking pictures in the bus. The bus really was full of laughter. Our first destination was Ministry of Finance that had quite beautiful architecture. It was built with interesting angle. Oh….I also saw lots of expensive cars. As expected from Putrajaya~ Dr. Rosseni’s son, En. Faisal explained to us the photography technique including the camera function. Different digital camera or DLSR have different function and the effect of the photo will be different depending on the camera.

We didn’t manage to try the DLSR camera there but we manage to try the camera you use to take portrait photo whereby the back is blurred. I caught the picture at first but he said, the picture must have story. So I tried another one. Got a good feedback from him.

Our next destination is the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin’s mosque. And let me tell you…I’m in love with the mosque. I was awed at every part of the mosque I stepped into. They even have escalator there!!! Me and Peng got lost at first but a man helped us out. He even explain a little bit about the mosque. It was built with Madinah’s mosque as inspiration whereby the praying hall is open. The bathroom and wudhu’ place was superb too. I could live there…We moved on to the outer part of the mosque that has amazing landscape. Encik Helmi taught us about Junaio again before moving on to video recording technique. All of us tried the panning, tilting, dollying and zooming. Our group did a video shoot there.

We

prayed there before moving on to Pulllman. It’s a bit too dark so we can’t really see much there. Then we went to Pasar Malam. The last destination where we also did our photoshoot. As you can guess, we enjoyed shopping more than shooting the video.

Fiel trip like this is really fun to be done. Learning outside classroom while we apply the technique we learnt really help to enhance my understanding and see the immediate effect of the technique. We really had fun while learning. I believe the trip is a great effort to not just enhance our understanding of the technique but also introduce us how to actually capture the beautiful things we see so that it will always remain as good memory. I hope if I were to get chance, I would do it again~

WEEK 6: VIDEO PRODUCTION TECHNIQUE

Published 20/04/2012 by Aqila Qira-chan

Week 6? The week I enjoyed the best in class!

Oh before that, assalamualaikum and greetings everyone. I hope you are doing very well.

Back to the reflection. That day start off with as usual, a recap of the pre-production process a.k.a the previous weeks class. After all all that we learn are interconnected with each other. Again, this week, Mr. Helmi’s giving lecture with the help of his friend Mr. Yusof. This week focus on production phase including photography and video taking technique. This week’s class again, it include loads of hands on activities which I prefer rather than just a normal theory-learning lecture.

I really gain new experience from the video composition, video shootingvideo transferring, video designing and mobile tag lesson. Mr. Helmi gave us insight on the technique used in each of the topic but what I find most interesting is when we learn the video composition technique. I always thought in order to focus on object, we took the shot from center until when we learn about the rule of third. Then it comes to me as I viewed some of the picture on the internet, u don’t necessarily need to centerized the subject of our photo in order give focus.

The sakura tree in the picture below is not at the centre yet we know the highlight of the photo is the sakura tree.

Image

Image

I tried applying the rule of third through 2mpx phone camera. I’m not sure if it is correct but here goes:

Image

I also tried the close up shot.

Image

Image

It was really interesting to try this out. Maybe at te Putrajaya I’ll be able to take the photo more beautifully using a more proper camera. Next, we also learn about the angle of camera and video shooting. Mr. Helmi said the angle may portray the mood of the picture thus video and camera angle must be taken into consideration when we shoot. I usually use the normal angle for any moods. haha…no wonder the mood I’m trying to convey through my photo never did get there. High angle represent depression or loneliness…Makes me wonder the famous high-angle photo people take for their face to look thin on facebook profile picture has meaning that the owner of the photo is lonely…(Just kidding). Then there’s the low angle that function to make the image appear bigger.

normal angel:

High angle:

Low angle:

Then we move on to video designing which involved the boundary game. Basically it’s another format of storyboard which is not that systematic (in my opinion) compared to the storyboard. Though I prefer this way. I mean story board is more on planning action before the video shooting while this one is used after the video shooting to select the important scenes and discard the unwanted scenes. This is easier to do I think for me who harly do work systematically at all. Anyway, we didn’t really have practice on this one but I do get a get clear picture of this technique. I wish to try it during our group’s video project.

The last topic was the mobile tag which I really enjoyed creating. I never knew there’s a website to create the mobile tag. “Mobile tagging is the process of providing data read from tags for display on mobile devices, commonly encoded in a two-dimensional barcode, using the camera of a camera phone as the reader device” (wikipedia). Basically, mobile tag is a URL presented on code that has barcode-like function. When we scan it using the camera on smartphone or phone that has internet access or even iPad, we can access the website or information. I’ve seen on a TV once that in Japan/Korea, there’s a machine that look like a vending machine where you can scan the mobile tag of the items to buy the product. We had a chance to create our own mobile tag and tried mobile taggng~ Here’s the link to my blog:

qrcode

Guess what? You can even do mobile tagging on your phone number, SMS and even text. I really enjoy it.

After that lesson, we learn video shooting technique that include panning, zooming, dolly-ing and tilting. Zooming is a common terms and we often do it to get a closer movement of something. However, as a stated by Mr. Helmi, zooming will cause a bad result towards the video. The picture of the video will not appear clear at certain point. To solve it, he said we should use dolly technique where the camera is tied to the tripod with wheel and pushed. You can put it on the chair with wheel and push the chair. Dolly in is like zoom in but you push the camera forward while dolly out is like the zoom out where you pull the camera back.  This is what I often see in movie. Now I know the term. We also learn about tilt where the camera is moved up and down (vertically) slowly without the cameraman moving and pan where the cameraman also don’t move but the camera is move horizontally to the left and right.

We get to try all the technique in class where we did all sort of things with the camera. I really had fun times during the class. Before I forgot, we also learn about putting up the tripod which it’s the first time of my life doing it. I do find this class as a learning experience that I may used in later part of my llfe.

WEEK 5: WEBBLOG

Published 30/03/2012 by Aqila Qira-chan

Assalamualaikum and konnichiwa! m(-__-)m*bow Hope you have a wonderful day. Like a dash of light, it’s already week 5…I felt that we’ve done a lot yet our production of the video haven’t started. This weeks reflection will reflect on last week’s class! Last weeks’ class was extremely fun! I really enjoy the cooperative work and all the hands-on activities. We did paper prototyping technique to design our blog. Anyway, class started with misunderstanding which no one was to be blame. Luckily Luqman, Peng and I have discussion about another class so we decided to do work at the Makmal 1 and came early.

Since my Arabic class was cancel, I manage to get to class early. (^_^) Anyway, class was with Encik Helmi. As we entered the class, there’s already materials on the table which already gave the impression that this week’s class will be exciting. All the color paper and boards as well as the marker really excite us and make us anticipated the class. As usual, it all started with lecture on web design where the model is almost the same as last week’s model on making story board. The only difference is instead of sketch, we use the phase of Paper Prototyping. The lecture was very interesting as well although it is not very long. Just like ASSURE model that we learn in Pn. Hazrati’s class, this is another technique of of ISD but I prefer this one as it is easier to use.

Then we precede to the activities which is the Paper Prototyping technique . Of course it’s basically a planning process. Like the saying, “Fail to plan means plan to fail”. This steps really an essential technique in designing weblog. First of all, the example he gave us…too complicated. What’s with the sketch of girl and the holiday website? I thought in our prototype activity, we have to do all that…the content includes as well as all the information. He probably should bring the real thing ( that we can touch and see) as example so that we get a clearer picture. After a while I understand he actually just want the how the blog will look like roughly. It’s still complicated though after that. What I meant is, it’s easy to plan what we want our website to look like but to make it happen, I don’t think we have the skill to make our website as cool as that. At first we are all confuse of what to do because En. Hilmi said there’s a lot of things we need to finish. We don’t know on what to start so I as the group leader gave out instruction by dividing work. One to do business card, one to do content and storyboard and some would do the website. However we actually misunderstood. Instead of doing the things, we are supposed to do the website causing us to start late and still confuse. Reference from other group and guidance from the lecturers really help us to work on time. Though, out of all the 5 steps, we FOCUS primarily on the website interface layout and the design. We didn’t even have time to discuss on the customers’s concern….Apparently, we finished the job by working as a group.

The result, is very…how should I say…DISASTEROUS. We had the idea but when we paste it, it didn’t turn out like we wanted to. I’m still very proud of my group members though. I guess if we have more time, w’ll make it more organized and beautiful. Then we present our ideas to the whole class. It is so funny yet embarassing as we’re the only group with the ROUGHEST and SCATTERED design of all. haha.

It was a fun activity and I think if we could do it often in class, this class will be very interesting! I enjoy drawing, writing, cutting and pasting and share of ideas. Since I work well with the group, there’s no group problem. It’s just that since it’s not such a complex activities, not all work are divided evenly. I also manage to update the group blog with some pictures and video of our discussion for the video production this week. That’s all for today~!!!

WEEK 4:PRE-PRODUCTION

Published 20/03/2012 by Aqila Qira-chan

Konnichiwa and Assalamualaikum!

How are you? I hope we all have a great day awaiting for us today! This week post won’t be very long as some of the reflection on the video is updated on the company’s blog.

Week 4 class is mostly on the recap of last week class but this time I am perfectly clear about the topic. We’ll talk about that afterward. First, let’s talk about Madam Hazrati’s class which I find it very difficult to understand the content. Though, it’s not the lecturer’s fault. My Arabic class finished quite late so we had to rush to class. By the time we arrived, the lesson has started…All the rushing makes me take some time to be settle down thus I ended up clueless when we arrived at certain point. No worries…I’ll just read back the slide she gave us since it’s theory. I’m sure as I review it later, I’ll understand it.

Mr.Helmi’s class was easier to understand as he aid it with the powerpoint slides. I’ve read his blog before so, I’m clear about his explanation. Miss Hazrati’s example of storyboard also help me to get a clearer picture of what the storyboard will look like. Mr. Helmi also answer my question as detailed as possible, so I have no problem comprehending what we should do.

The end of the class, we consult Pn. Hazrati’s on our problem regarding the equipment and she adviced us to try watching globe trekker as one of the solution to our problem. Watching Ian Wright’s Globe Trekker gave us a brief idea on what we have to do for the storyboard as well as the video. Thanks Pn. Hazrati. Through discussion at the end of class, we came up with a few ideas for our production which I have updated on our company’s group. I really like how Dr. gave us time to discuss in class as we rarely have time outside class to meet.

I guess that’s all for today.

WEEK 3: MOBILE BLOGGING

Published 15/03/2012 by Aqila Qira-chan

Moshi2 n Assalamualaikum~!!!!

For week 3, we have learnt a very interesting topic which enjoyed very much titled, ‘mobile blog’. For this class we have been exposed to the usage of ipad and I’ve got to try it as well as some of my friends.

As much as I enjoyed the class, I would say, I don’t really understand the class’s content. I can’t understand much of what the lecturer was trying to say about mobile blogging…I very much get the point on what mobile blogging is. I think if he explained it in BM he would be more comfortable and it would probably make me easier to understand. The blog that he suggested for us to look through is also interesting. I manage to read something and I gain some insight about the technique on video recording.

Dr. Rosseni however managed to explain it back very well and I somehow understand it better. We then break into group. Thank god, I manage to be in the group of people that I really am comfortable working with. We’ve been having quite a hard time choosing a topic but we finally manage to agree on one topic, “100 a day at Putrajaya”. We’ve also chose the board of director/ post that all of us agreed upon. You’re looking at the art director and the blog main admin. I love this kind of work.

Again, as much as I love this class since I got the opportunity to try the Ipad (the lecturer did a great job demonstrating on how to use the Ipad), I don’t really like using mobile blogging. First I don’t own any mobile blogging equipment. Second: I prefer using normal PC blogging and even the video uploading through mobile. I know we need to change for better, but still I prefer the PC blogging/video uploading. More shocking news, after this we need to do some vlogging!!!! I’m embarrassed. I tried it once but it turn out so funny. Though, I’ll try it this time with script so I don’t stutter or turn red….

I’ve finished the company blog!!!!! Here’s the link~ http://foodspaqlhunt3r.wordpress.com/

I guess that’s all for today~!!!

Jaa~!!!

WEEK 2: SYSTEMATIC PLANNING IN THE USE OF MEDIA AND EVALUATION

Published 02/03/2012 by Aqila Qira-chan

Moshi Moshi~

Greeting~

Another update for this week blog and today’s update will be on today’s topic that we learn with Puan Hazrati titled: Systematic Planning in the Use of Media and Evaluation. As a recap from today’s class, INSTRUCTION is an arrangement of collection of data to produce an effective learning. In other words, it is like a data of content that we want to teach. In order to deliver this data, we need INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN (another important term) which is the systematic process to design. develop, implement and evaluate our instruction. For example in this class we use wordpress as an instructional design.

Instructional design includes determining students needs, determining objectives, developing evaluation procedure, designing and choosing delivery strategy, employing instruction system and evaluating overall system. We’re also introduced to a few types of models of Instructional design like Dick and Carey and ADDIE but the major one is the one we lean deeply which is ASSURE MODEL.

A – Analyze learner

S – State objective

S – Select media or materials

U – Utilize Media and Material

R – Require learner’s participation

E – Evaluate and Revise

Our exercise for today is to create our own sentence for objective based on the ASSURE model. Mine is:

Class 1A will be able to  write 5 sentence using at least a verb with 100% sentence accuracy.

It was interesting perhaps as we learn many things today like the rules and exception and types of learners. Can’t wait for next week’s class. Until then~

Design a site like this with WordPress.com
