THE END IS NEAR!

So this is my LAST BLOG POST! (that is required for a grade). This blogging experience has been beneficial to me, because I got to learn how wordpress works, and how to efficiently navigate throughout the site. However, it was sometimes difficult to keep up with posting because of my other more tedious class work. I felt that if I just blogged for fun I would enjoy it more than I did for a grade.

Writing this blog has helped me to understand the blogging world more, and it is hard-work to make a efficient blog. Learning wordpress, I feel, will help me a lot in the future especially with helping my personal brand. I am considering starting another blog after this one is graded, however, I would want to center it more around my life, and my everyday struggles/ new lessons that I learn.

Overall, I do see the importance in making this blog. I realize it is to help us boost personal branding, get aware of other bloggers, and communicate among other bloggers. Thank you, Zmikly for helping me gain knowledge of the blogging world!

TRAINS!

I really do love San Marcos, however, the one major flaw that I am not used to are all the trains! When I moved, my apartment complex never mentioned that there was going to be a train out my window. It passes by every hour. During the day the conductor never blows their horn, but at 3 a.m. when I am trying to sleep the conductor CONSTANTLY blows the horn. Because of the trains I have to leave to catch the tram an hour early just in case there is a train that will hold us up on Aquarena. They are just everywhere! Coming from Houston this situation is very different. There are a couple of trains tracks, but very rarely does one actually come by.

I mentioned my river spot on the train tracks in a previous post. Well my friend, and I decided to not move when the train started to come towards us. So we sat super close to the wire as the train was only like a foot away from our backs (talk about an adrenaline rush!) I shot some footage of when a train passed as we were relaxing by the river.

The best part of San Marcos (in my opinion) is the river that runs through the city. I have recently discovered some secret spots along the river that have become a predominant “chill” spot. One particular place I go to sits right on the railroad tracks on a bridge, and the river flows beneath. I will not say where exactly, but it is located near Rio Vista!

 riverpic

My other secret spot is located on a just a slab of concrete, and is a little bit more difficult to get to! Same general area just on the opposite side of the picture above! It is located on the water (I know where I will start my tubing when it gets warmer!) It is just another breath taking spot!

the river

I popular spot to go to is right off Sessom and Aquarena called bikini hill, it is attached to Sewell Park. When I visited during the summer this is where you could find the students that decided to stay in San Marcos majority of the time! It is a great place to start tubing, and could take you about 3 to 4 hours to complete the river (depending on the current).

Visiting the river is a MUST! when coming to San Marcos (when the temperature is appropriate that is). Just be prepared with sunscreen, and water to stay hydrated when your drunk-ness starts to kick in.

Until Next Time!

A hike through Purgatory!

As you can see the title has nothing to do with EDM… well I decided to change the topic to exploring through San Marcos. This is a beautiful city that I have to share with the world. Simply Beautiful.

First place I must show you is Purgatory Creek. A little adventure awaits right off the Wonder World exit. I went here for the first time with a friend, and I just felt (as cheesy as it sounds) “one with nature”. I climbed a tree, talked to strangers, and found an amazing spot!

Here are some pictures from that picture perfect day! It starts off as the first trial we hiked. Then shows some pictures from the tree that my friend, and I climbed. Finally, it  finishes off with a view of the sunset.

Clash of the Genres

Has anyone started to notice that different genres of music are collaborating with EDM? I certainly have, and I don’t mind that! I have not so recently discovered a song by A$AP Rocky, and Skrillex! It is certainly exciting to hear that two of my favorite genres came together to make music! And who can miss the fact that Lana del Rey’s “Summertime Sadness” EDM remix comes on every hour. I hope that different genres can mix with EDM. Who doesn’t love to dance like a maniac to the beats, and sing to your favorite artist?!

Sadly, I have to make this post short. I am visiting my parents house in Houston, and all they have is internet explorer…needless to say I am about to throw this computer out the window.

Here is the Skrillex and A$AP Rocky video:

Dayglow: World’s Largest Paint Party

A huge electronic dance music party that I have previously attended was Dayglow in Dallas, Texas. Dayglow is a huge paint party with various DJ’s that perform throughout the night. Dayglow was a night I could never forget! My friends, and I decided to attend Dayglow because we were feeling spontaneous, and need a wicked night of fun. We all bought our VIP tickets, and we drove 5 hours from Houston to Dallas. We arrived, and checked in to the run down La Quinta right off the highway. Later that day we got dressed up to go, and when we stepped outside all the occupants of the hotel were young adults dressed in typical rave outfits ready for the adventure ahead of us. We arrived at the lot that the event was being held, and we got to skip past the extremely long line (thank goodness for V.I.P). My friends and I were handed a bag with paint cards, a tee shirt, some glow sticks, sunglasses, and other awesome goodies. Then we  made our way right up to the front row, and watched the countdown to the show. The artists started to DJ, and the crowd went in to a beautiful frenzy. The stage was spewing paint, the speakers were on blast, and everyone was shuffling. As the last DJ came on my friends and I went to go get our bottle of paint. After, danced around the outskirts of the field, and blasted everyone with neon paint. After the event was over we headed back to the hotel, and kept dancing all night long!

TL;DR: Went to Dayglow. Had an amazing time. Danced my ass off. Paint on every part of my body.

Genres of EDM

Electronic dance music is on the rise among new songs on the radio stations, and even at your typical college party. There are many different types of EDM, but I just feel like educating people on EDM genres such as House, Trance, Techno, and Dubstep.

House:

  •             House music established roots in the city of Chicago, and is derived from disco music. According to globaldarkness.com “House music takes its name from an old Chicago night club called The Warehouse, where the resident DJ, Frankie Knuckles, mixed old disco classics, new Eurobeat pop and synthesized beats into a frantic high- energy amalgamation of recycled soul.” House music is generally the songs that we hear on mainstream radio usually a remix of a song with fast beats in the background. Examples of house artists that play on the radio are Swedish House Mafia, Bassnectar, and Calvin Harris.

Trance:

  • Wikipedia establishes trance music as having repeating melodies, musical form that builds up and down throughout a track, and has up to 150 beats per minute (somewhat faster than House). The style of music originated in the nineties in Germany. Trance music is to literally put one in a trance with the melodies, and the story like feel of the music.

Techno:

  • Techno started off popular in Europe, and was the made popular in raves in parts of the UK.  “Electro relied heavily on synthesized beats and computery vocoder voices…The Roland TR-808, a programmable drum machine released in late 1980, formed the distinctive sound for the entire electro genre.” An example is Late Night Alumni- Empty Streets

Dubstep:

  • My particular favorite style of EDM is Dubstep because of the “dirty” beats, and the rapid bass drops. Dubstep “features syncopated drum and percussion patters with bass lines that contain prominent sub bass frequencies.” Most dubstep songs have wobbles which is an “extended bass note is manipulated rhythmically.” A great example of a dubstep song is Biohazard by Downlink.

Now that you are briefly educated on some sub genres of EDM you can just sit back, and enjoy the music!
