ABSTRACT

 

My partner Mohd Haffizie and I has conducted a researched and survey of computer and society. We gave questionnaires to the people of different age, different profession and different gender. This report is about computer and society. We carried out the researched in order to assess how important a computer in today’s society. The survey has shown how far our society be aware about the important of computer in their daily life. But, there are some arguments about the emergence of the computer. Some people may accept and embrace this growth but some people seems be ignored about the fast changing of computers. So, lets take a look our results and the discussion on computer and society.

INTRODUCTION

 

Don’t know anything about computers? Don’t think they are big part of your life? Think again ! Computers are wonderous maschines that improve our lives in any areas like education, entertainment and work. The use of computers in and out of school has made improvements in the way we learn. For instance, “the use of computers in the classroom has freed up some of my time so I can give more individualized instruction to the needy,” says Instructor Mary S. Teachmall of a local neighbourhood grade school is a definite improvments over not having computers for various school related tasks’ like changing complete blocks of text on a term paper in a split second, using graphics to better express a particular point or idea, and being able to tap into the world wide web where vast amounts of information is at the fingertips of the user is a marked improvenent from 10 years ago.

Are computers necessary in today’s society ?

Introduction

Did you all know what is the meaning of computer?Computer is the programmable machine designed to sequentially and automatically can be changed readily. Apart from that, its allowing the computer to solve more than one kind of problem. In the 21st century,the uses of computer has changed dramatically. The computers has changed the society today.

A few decades ago,if you were think about whether computers are necessary or not,most of the answer would be no. This perception has changed since computers have become an absolute necessity in our society today. And for your information, most everything we interact with has been somehow touched by technology. Therefore, there are no doubt that computers has become a part of human’s life.

Computers have over the course of time,become necessary in today’s society as we have become dependent on their availability and accessibility. Most of our routine job depends on computer technology. So that is why computers is like human’s ‘life’.Moreover,we live in a computerized society and whether we like it or not,it is going to get more and more computerized.

 

 

Why computers very important?

As computer is an electronic device, it is very useful in order to connect with people from all over the world. We can use tools like an e-mail or social network such as Facebook ,Twitter and Myspace. By using these network,we can interact with people from other country. If we want to send any information we can use Yahoo mail or Gmail. Then the information will be send faster without any disruption.

Besides that,tools such as e-mail and instant messaging become the standard norm in business communications. Nowadays,any business not connected to Internet will likely fall behind because of their inability to compete globally and consumers have become accustomed to instantaneous responses. People who have not learned how to navigate the internet and have basic computer skills will increasingly have a difficult time to securing employment.

Secondly,why computer is becoming too important in today’s society?It is important because students nowadays must use a computer as their method learning. We can see all schools in Malaysia have computer right??Besides,the internet is a huge source of information. This will help students in many ways in order to search any information. Even there are online universities that deliver online degrees and distance learning is spreading far and wide.

Other than that,the banking sector has improved in many aspects such as security,ease of use with the help of computers. Most of the banking operations can be done online,known as Internet Banking so that it will make people easier to do any payment such as credit cards. And we don’t have to walk up to the bank for virtually anything. You can withdraw money from ATMs or deposit money by using online transaction. It will save your time and make our works faster. Online banking also safe.

 

What are the impact of computer on society?

Computers have both positive and negative impact to our society. Firstly,the work can be done in a very less time and more information can be stored in small space by using an e-mail. It is also easy to access data and document can be kept secret. Then,it can be used for various purpose in any type of work.

The negative impact of computer is computer is highly expensive. Not all people can buy the computers .As the fast changing of the uses of computer,the illiteracy of computing and computers become increase. The people who not exposed to the computers especially for those who live in rural area,they mostly do not know about computers. Other than that,huge data and information can be lost sometimes. So,we need to be careful.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

OBJECTIVES OF THE RESEARCHED

 

1. To study about our society awareness on how important computer in our daily lives.
2. To observe the usage of computer according to age level.
3. To observe the negative and positive effect of computer on our society.
4. To observe whether the computer is frequently used in urban area or rural area.
5. To see our society’s skills in using computer.
6. To show how computer effect in our educational system.

DISCUSSION

 

Based on our observation, we can conclude that all levels of society make computer as a big part of their daily life. As we look at the result above, 100% of people from age 15 to 30 whether students or workers has agreed that computers are necessary in their daily life. Why? This is because computer has make their job easier. 90% of people believe that most of their routine job depends on computer technology. Moreover, students and workers depends on the computer availability and accessibility. This goes to workers which mostly used online banking operations. They use internet banking to do any payment such as credit cards. Plus, all students agreed that computer helps in their learning. As the internet is a huge source of information, it gives a thousand ways for students to search any information and make in as new learning method. However, 1% do not agree that computer will make their job easier and perhaps this kind of people lives in rural area and they are not affordable to buy a computer. That is why computer not only can be used by a teenagers but it is vital by all ages as it can help our society to expand the relationships with others within or outside the country. How? Tools such as e-mail and instant messaging are connecting people from all over the world. So, the introduction of computers are significant for schools in rural area so that rural students can get a lot of benefits by using computers and 100% agreed about this. Other than that, 50% have indicated that they spend money for each time they used computer and the rest were not. This is due to the fact that some people have their own Wi-fi at home and some do not have. People who do not have a computer and wi-fi need to go to the cybercafe and it requires some money. Compared to the people that have wi-fi at home, they can save their money. Talking about the society aware of computers, 80% of people agreed that computers are important in their daily life but 20% denied it. Perhaps in their eyes, computers give more negative impact to the society. This can be proved by a high percentage of 70% people has expressed that computers only give negative impact in their daily life. Maybe in their perceptions, computers can distract a person so much they lose contact with the reality around them such as taking time with family and friends. It is also opens up a kiddy porn and other immoral things. There is no doubt that more crimes is committed through the internet such as hackers can ruin your computer system. Overall, today’s society have different view on emergence of computers into their life.

 

 

 

 

RECOMMENDATION AND CONCLUSION

 

Based on the above, we recommend the following strategy for society on how to use a computer properly, which would then give a great impact in their life. Everybody be aware the importance of computer right? So, we as a human need to be wise in use computer. Since computers has changed human’s life dramatically, it gives both positive and negative impact to our society. As we know many crimes was committed through the internet such as spamming and hacking. The authorities must play an important role to overcome this problem by strengthen law enforcement. Besides, parents must guide and control their child in using the computers as the child like to play online games, explore the internet for fun and chat with friends. This will cause your child lose interest in learning. Other than that, many students in rural area do not expose to the computer even some of them do not know how to use it. As a solution, government must provides computers to the students and introduce it as a new learning method. It will improve the student’s achievements directly. According to a new study by researchers at Boston College and the University of Massachusetts at Lowell regular use of computers can have an effect on student performance on standardized tests. In conclusion, computers and network technology cannot be ignored in today’s world and it seems people must accept and embrace this growth. Society has welcomed computers into daily life and it would be pretty difficult to remove our dependency on technology at this point.

What?

A computer is an electronic device that manipulates information or data.

It has the ability to store,retrieve and process data.In today’s world computers

are necessary.without computers our moden world would fall apart.Humans

could not cope with the workloads that would be excreted on them.

 

 

Why?

Computing is an iportant part of everyday life in the twenty-first century.From music

and photos to banking and communicating,computers have changed the way we

work and live.Computers can be used for fun and recreation activities.This is a great

way to relax and have a bit of fun and online gamming.This is a good way to meet new people

from all over the world.Besides that,humans are making new inventions every day. Since the beginning of time, man has been inventing. Homo habilis started by inventing tools and weapons so he could survive. The inventions never stopped and something new is being invented each day: cars, computers, and even spacecrafts. We started inventing things like computers not just for survival, but to make everyday life as easy as possible. In today’s society computers have become very important part of our lives.

 

Where?

Many educators believe that the use of computers in school answers most of the important “learning” questions: This means test scores would go up, the individual pace of students would make it possible for the “slower” students to catch up, but of course there are many more who oppose to this idea. The introduction of computers in schools in poorer neighborhoods would mean more, because, unlike the upper and middle-class school districts, these kids would have little or no access to computers in their homes after school.

 

Who?

Computers can be used by all ages such as young people,teenagers and even an adult.

They use computers to communicate with their friends online like Facebook and Twitter

with ease and does not cost a penny.

In this week, Mr. Yusoff has told us how to use Microsoft Excell as a preparation for

the next class. But we still need continue doing our booklet and brochure.

For the next class, we are given a task on Financial Management.

So, we must use Microsoft Excell to do this task as we need to key in the data

of our financial start from January 2011 until December 2011.

Hye good evening my friends..!!

As time went too fast, we are already in week 10 right?? without realisze it and only 1 month left before our

final exam..!! huhu so scared..

During this week, fizi and i still doing our report on questionnaire and must do it in open sourse software.

But this week we got new task to complete..!! and it is quite challenging for me.. 🙂

We learnt about 2D graphic types which are bitmap and victor images.

It consists of Microsoft Paint/Paint Brush, Shapes/Smart Art Power Point, GIMP (OSS), google draw,

OpenSourse Draw (OSS), Desktop Publishing Software and Word Processor Software.

Based on these graphic editing software, we need to create a brochure or pamphlet using Microsoft Publisher.

The content is related the topic for assignment 1.  After finish it, the document must be save in oroginal format

and pdf format.

Other than that, we also need to create a booklet using function in Word.  The content also related the topic

for assignment 1 and make a cover using of the booklet ( using 2 column )

Although we are in a holidays mood ,  we still need to complete our ‘homework’..

Now,  I already completed my questionnaire  statistics data but i am still not doing my report yet

because i do not know how to do..hehe

Assalamualaikum..good afternoon all ! How are you today guys..??

Today..Dr. Yusoff told us to update our blog bacause he will check our blog every week..huhu

Besides that,  i also learned new things today.  Dr. Yusoff thought us how to use PASW Statistics Data Editor as our next task.

As my partner ,Fizi and I has finished our questionnaire, we need to insert the data that we have collected

from the questionnaire into the PASW Statistics.

The data that we need to be inserted such as GENDER ,  AGE,  PROFESSION and all the 10 questions.

Finally, we will get the statistics from the questionnaire..

How are you today guys ?? I wish all of you will be in a good condition.

Time went too fast right ? it is already week 7 !! huhu 🙂

Anyway,  i am more happy and enjoy with this class now… 🙂

Today,  me and my partner Fizi was relieved as we have done our Questionnaire.

However, there is a litle bit  task that we need to complete.

This week,  i need to print out my questionnaire and give to 10 of our friends to answer it.
