It’s been 6 and a half years since I posted here… Still not sure if I will continue, but maybe. So much has happened in the interim – I’ve moved, my father passed away, we survived Covid and a number of other things. I don’t know what has happened to you all during the same time – let’s see if any one still is around to read my ramblings…

4 months…
…is how long it’s been since I posted anything the last time.
I’m not going into any lengthy explanations as to why this silence – suffice to say that I’ve been in a not so pleasurable state. I haven’t been able to deal with all that has been thrown at me, getting through workdays, feeding myself and looking after Loki has been just enough, thank you.
So, what has happened that made me feel good enough to take up blogging again?
We’ve passed winter solstice…
We’ve passed vernal equinox…
I turned 65 without immolating…
My young charges are doing fine…
I’m getting better at dealing with my son’s increasingly serious bi-polarity.
I WAS going to post a few of the pictures I’ve actually taken during this time – but my camera has been set on RAW – and I don’t have the energy just yet to start messing around with the program I need to edit those images.
However, I am still alive and feeling pretty good about most things – but I won’t promise that I’ll post every single day.
That – by the way – began to feel as a chore, as a “must-find-something-interesting-to-post-about”
Oh – and thank you al,l who didn’t omit me from your feed around Christmas!

Thanksgiving
I feel really lucky that I was invited to a very special group of women on facebook and today I posted this:
I really hope everyone who reads this, will be able to (somehow) enjoy the holiday. I’ve been quite surprised to read about many of your trepidations in regards to “breaking bread” with in-laws, siblings and their families. My own memories of Thanksgiving in Canada are so much brighter and fondly remembered.
Then…
I recalled the 10 years I was obliged to spend Christmas Eve with the family of my Ex – and suddenly it was all clear to me.
We are all (more or less) part of the generation of women who got the “Serve thy family with no protest” while breastfeeding.
There is a vast difference in approach to family between my sister (9 years younger) and I. I’ve arranged dinners for 25 people while gnashing my teeth and having an extra shot of eggnog… My sister has declined the honour of hosting Christmas dinners “because she was busy.”
The morale of this???
We need to toughen up – do like younger sisters do – and have another glass of red or a cup of eggnog while twiddling our toes!
If your Thanksgiving also is a ‘pain-you-know-where’ – take some time to figure out what should NOT be included in this picture, given that it was supposed to be just a picture of a snowladen tree.
You can always claim to be helping a Swedish blog-friend with a tricky question about translations… (Or, whatever!)

First a stubborn cold – then sciatica (still not OK) – then the Donald became elected as the next POTUS – and now I’ve lost my voice.
Can’t even call the dog when it’s time for his dinner!

It is often said that a country has the government it deserves…
I feel sorry for all those people who will have to live with the new POTUS. May we hope that he does something so stupid that he’s impeached before having had chance to blow up the entire world?

I’ve Done Something Right…
…just don’t ask me what! Three of four cacti have buds – the only one who steadfastly refuses to give any flowers is the oldest one. I guess that isn’t so strange – the mother plant is a old as I am myself.
In other news – my lumbago or sciatica is alive and kicking – strong painkillers internally and as a gel on the outside will alleviate the worst pain, but I’m not dancing can-can!

Ouch!
Somehow, I managed to put my back out of order yesterday. It took me 5 minutes to get out of bed this morning, so I had to ask a neighbour to look after Loki.
I miss him sleeping behind my back…
