The final examination

EflSo finally the finals weeks have ended yesterday. teducational technology paper was on 6th January 2014. now let me share with you. actually, I felt a bit frustrated. I revised all the lecture note that I’ve collected and I can say that I’m 80% prepared. the questions was on the moderate level. but I personally Ft as if I just memorized the notes, without deeper understanding since we did not have proper lectures on those topics. apart from that, it was 95% similar to the past year question.

Reflection:

I think we should have proper lecture on those topics topics too aside from having to complete the project. the inut from the topics are useful and I would love to know deeper rather than just memorizing without fully understanding for the sake of examination.

Second, I was frustrated because the question was very similar to past year question.

I revised all those topics as preparation and did not expect that it would be very similar.

As for me, the question should not be that similar bcause the next students would not have something challenging and just depend on the trend of each year’s question.

The subjective questions were open-ended type, however I felt not so confident with my answers.

I’m praying for the best and hopefully I will pass this course with flying colours.

Revision week

The examination for this course is scheduled on 6th January 2013.

I just started to do gather the lecture notes and extra reading materials from other students from different set since last week. Basically, now I have more than 20 files to be read. Fuhh.

Image

Look at all those files to be revised. I actually started to go through all the notes last night, 2nd of January and I ended up puzzled. The organization of the files were quite confusing and there were notes on the same topics, but in Malay. So right now, I’m trying to organize each material properly.

The content of each lecture note consists of mostly basic knowledge, they are quit easy to be understood. Most of them are just the theory versions of what we have already applied. The focus also mostly lies on the techniques/strategies to prepare lesson aids for the students. Some of the information are new to me, the Assure Model and all. I would love to know about this, and I’m planning to read more on this topic, not only from the materials that have been provided, but also reading from the internet.

However, I see there’s room for improvement for the slides’ display. I found those slides are not well-organized and distracting.

Image

Image

This is one of the lecture note I got from the Dr Rosseni’s blog and I love this one because it’s short and simple.

Image

I got this note from other sources. The content is there, but I found myself distracted sometimes.

Putting those aside, I think I should focus on the content rather than the display part.

That’s all for now for my revision week. I will update more about my progress of revising the materials and my preparation later.

Remember to balance between both 🙂

One-Minute Pitch

So here is my one-minute pitch. Basically I reflected on:

My role as the camera lady and editor of the project.

What I have learnt from this project.

How will I benefit from this project for my future.

What I personally felt about this project.

This pitch was prepared on the 13th week, but it turned out that we have to record a video. I did not edit the video because it has already reached the duration limit, however the highlight of this video is on the content of my pitch. I included my personally feelings towards the project since it is the most important part that has left big impact for me. This project has strengthen our bond through the commitment and understanding of one another.

I think if we were to deliver the pitch directly face-to-face in the class, the messages form each of us would leave more impact. I believe each of us has something to say about this project. However, I understand the time constrain that we face. I hope what I’m trying to deliver from the pitch can reach all of you and I would love to listen to others’ pitch too.

That’s all for now. Thank you 🙂

EDUTECHNOVATION DAY

Hye all.

So the day that we have been waiting for has finally came.

The REAL EduTechNovation Day.

But before that, let me tell you what have happened this whole week. We have to make some editing to our video, and there were not so many changes we made, just what have been commented by Dr. So we tried to change the fonts and also adjust the music.Apart from that, we also had to edit our poster. Sigh. This was the heartbreaking part 😦

When it comes to this poster editing, there’s not much that we could do. We tried to change the colors, but it turns out to be worse than the previous one and look informal. The same goes to the fonts. I also had my expert friend to comment on it and he said that the current one is okay. So after some discussion and days passed, we decided to stick to the current one.

Last Edit Last

On the D-day, I went early to class and this time around I was not so nervous as previous week, because I was confident and well prepared. We had to put the poster and story board on the wall and I was smiling doing that. A satisfaction gained and I’m proud of my group and everyone else’s works.

The seniors were there too, and that inspired me even more. Thank you for their time and positive feedbacks and comments!. All the presentations went well. And I would like to congratulate all the winners!! The GG Creation, Ladies Production and Nature R Us. All of you deserve the prices for your great jobs! I was so amazed with the Ladies Production works, all their hard works are finally paid! They were the most struggled group, I think. They were the second runner up. Their hard works of reproducing the video deserved that. Apart from that, my respect goes to Nur Ain for her individual video project that also has turned into a success.

After the presentation ended, the lecture and also instructors gave their comment and final speech. Well, I must say I felt proud, but sad at the same time. Hmm.

Thanks to Dr and all the TAs for their guidance all this while. I feel so lucky to have the chance to be in the class.

Reflection:

I’ve learnt a lot from this course, not only about the multimedia skills, but also the toleration between group members, full commitment despite our differences. I would say this project means a lot to me. It has strengthen the bond between my group members. Although we had many problems, we managed to solve and keep going on. My group’s video might not be the best of all, but we produced the video with all of our hearts and felt very satisfied with the result. But yes, there’s still room for improvement. After all, we are just the beginners 🙂

However, I think the excitement was higher on the previous week during the Pre-edutech Day. I think this was due to our full-energetic spirit to perform and present the video. When we watched other groups’ videos, the excitement was lower compared to the last week because it was no longer our first time watching them all. But I do understand the reason why the Preedutech day was held by Dr and TAs. As we could see, all works ended up in perfection. The lecturer and TAs are all very supportive to us in completing the project. I enjoyed the whole process of learning in this class. This is the type of class that I was hoping for from the beginning; where we can learn and apply the knowledge and skills. The knowledge and skills are also for lifetime learning, which can benefit us in the future, even not as the teachers.

I will post my one-minute pitch in the next post. Stay tuned 🙂

Week 13

Hye all!

I’m excited to tell what happened in the previous class.

So,we were told that it will be our EduTech Day and we all got nervous! Everyone was sooo panic. Piles of works to be done in a short time. We have to present our video project, poster and the storyboard.

We started to make the poster that would look catch to the eyes of the audience.

But first, we try to google from the internet of some sample. This is the one that we found very close to our title and message. We would like to have the footstep picture to symbolize our title itself.

  Image

However, this poster looks so simple. So we tried to generate some more ideas.

We decided to have our group picture in the poster as the actresses.

So here is our first poster:

Image

Hmm, unfortunately, the poster turned out to be so crowded. So we tried to minimize the pictures in it. We also thought that the font was not really suitable.

So, here’s the second one:

Image

Nahhh, now it looks perfect to our eyes!

We printed the poster as soon as it was ready because we had no enough time.

But…..

It turned out that Dr Rosseni will have to comment and the poster first. And we have to get our approval. *Sigh*

She mentioned the criteria of the posters on the facebook and we were all frustrated because the poster that we had printed did not have those criteria. We need to have tagline, can convey message, appropriate colours and fonts and etc.

We were thinking of proceeding with the poster since we did not have enough money.

However, Kak Ana said we still have to get Dr Rosseni’s approval. We went to meet Kak Ana personally on the day before the EduTech Day to show her our poster and the video. Last minuteeeeee!

We had some advice from Kak Ana. We decided to edit our poster and print it again.

Kak Ana also commented on our completed video and apparently, we had to make many changes and even re-shoot some scenes!

We were so panic!!!!

We had some discussion and decided to redo some of the parts and re-edit the video.

So, the hectic FINAL hours started!

We shoot new scenes and working on the poster.

So here’s the final poster from us:

Image

OUR TAGLINE: KEY TO SUCCESS IS CONFIDENCE, CONFIDENCE COMES WITH PREPARATION, ONCE YOU’RE PREPARED, YOU ARE ONE STEP CLOSER!

I hope that tagline will convey what our video is all about and can attract the audience.

So, at that night before the EduTech Day, we started to re-edit our video from the beginning until the last scene and the credits part.

Two of us worked on the storyboard.

We ended up sleeping at 4 o’ clock in the morning.

And this is the result. Please click the link and view in HD for the best quality.

Hope you enjoyyy!

On the EduTech Day, we were the sixth group to present.

I was so amazed watching other groups’ great, awesome videos!!!

They are so good and I’m proud with all of them.

We also had to vote in the class.

All of the presentations went well and got high voting from others.

After the presentation, Dr Rosseni gave her comments on our videos and most of them are positive!!

Alhamdulillah, our hard work (but last minute) worth it!

Reflection:

I think it was the most hectic week of the semester. And this is the toughest assignment of all.

However, I personally think that, I’ve learnt a lot until this point.

Not only about the skills and all, but most importantly is the bond between the group members. We really need to give full commitment despite the tons of assignments from other subjects. When we were finishing the work at that night, I realized that the sacrifice has somehow strengthen our bond.

When we had to re-shoot and re-edit some parts, we did not blame each other, in fact we tried to solve the problem. Although we were so stressed out, but everybody was so patient. I’m very proud of my group members.

Our video might not be the best of all, but we are very proud and happy with it because we had tried our best and gave full commitment towards it.

We put our heart in this project.

May the upcoming and last week be eased.

Week 12

Hye everyone *sad face*

This week, the environment of the class was a little bit different. It felt like… gloomy. Yeah. Gloomy is the right word.

Dr Rosseni talked to all of us today. She said that she’s angry with everyone. So I thought that she’s going to scold us or something like that. But no, she talked to us nicely. How motherly she is. I got upset with myself. She reminded us of several things, especially regarding our individual reflection blog. She and Kak Ana were frustrated to see our works. I, myself did not really care about the individual blog. As far as I could remember, I only updated for the first week. *slap my own face*.

Mr Helmi explained to us what do we have to do for EduTech day, which is next week. So we have to prepare the poster, slides and also present our full video on that particular day. Fuh. Now I’m nervous. The D-day is coming!!

Kak Ana reminded us on what have been highlighted by Dr. at the beginning of the class. Kak Ana looked a little bit serious today and I was scared 😦

She was the one who checked on our individual blogs last night and her sorrow and serious face might be because of her frustration towards our works.

I would like to apologize to the lecturer and the facilitators. We’ll try our best to recover everything and not to repeat the same mistake.

Apart from that, the instructors also looked at our full-version video and have also commented for improvement. We shall work on by now as the presentation week is just around the corner.

Reflection :

Dr. Rosseni has opened my eyes on something today. I felt so guilty because it seemed like I took advantage of her kindness and gentleness towards us all this while so we began to take everything not seriously at all. Thank you Dr for such an eye-opener talk. It was my mistake to procrastinate on my work. Well, I should learn to prioritize my work and manage my time. Last night I almost went ‘drunk’ staying up until late at night just to finish my blog. Hmm, that would not happen if I did not procrastinate. I should listen to the lecturer and facilitators’ advice to update the blog every week.

 Image

No more PROCRASTINATION AQILAH!

Image

Here is a motivational quote for myself. I’ll start taking things seriously from now on. I will try my best to keep updating my blog and fulfill the requirement of a real REFLECTION POST.

About our project, since the D-day is just around the corner and there are still some works to be done, so we decided to delegate the tasks. We’ll add on another one scene as suggested by Mr Helmi to highlight the message in our video and that will be done by Fatin and Jaja. Ilya will work on our group blog to update our progress and the poster. And I myself will work on the credits video and the slides. Since there are not much time left, I think our decision to delegate the tasks is wise.

We had also discussed about our presentation. We are planning to wear something formal, and have our theme color. Huhu. This is to differentiate us from others and also it’ll be easier for others to recognize us as a group. The color has not been decided yet. We shall see on the D-day.

I have also started to think of the one-minute pitch. I want to deliver something meaningful and sincerely from my heart.

So that’s all from now. Thank you 🙂

Week 11

Hye there!

So here I am again. Let’s start the business.

This week, we were given a task to make a POSTER for our video production project. With the guidance of Mr Helmi, we managed to finish our first-time-ever poster. Fuhhh. It was challeging.

This is how our poster looks like :

What do you think of this?

Okay okay, I know it’s not that pretty or good, but I am proud of my own-made poster! Yeeeeha!

The reason why I chose the picture as the main focus in the poster is because it symbolizes our title and theme well. But I’m not sure whether the audience will understand it in the same way. I think, our poster is kind of mystery, huhu. It makes other curious to know more and watch the video. This poster  was done during the class, I’m not sure yet whether this will be the real poster if our video production project, or just a try from us. We’ll see how it goes.

Reflection:

Here’s the sad thing.  After finish making the poster, we had asked several of our friends to ‘judge’ it. Well the most common answer was ‘ IT IS DARK’ , ‘IT DOES NOT LOOK FRIENDLY’ and some said, IT WAS SCARYYYY ! Oh my God. Is it that horrible? 😦

Now allow me to comment on the poster above. Actually, the background colour chosen was black, because we were too stick to what Mr Helmi were demonstrating at the front during the class. Mr Helmi picked the black colour, so we just followed him. I thought that black was fine, because I wanted it to look formal. Unfortunately it turned out to be scary to others . Haiyya.

We’ll try to make another poster after this that looks bright and interesting. I think I’m going to see my friend who is an expert in making poster using Adobe Photoshop. I’m going to learn from her more. Hopefully, my initiative will work and produce good result! Yeah!

So here one thing that I learnt is that, it is important to know others/audience perceptions towards our work. If we did not ask our friends to comment on it, perhaps we will never realize how it actually looks in others’ eyes and thus, cannot correct the mistakes. Thanks to those who have commented on it.

Let’s try harder, shall we? 🙂

Week 10

The task for this week is to present our progress so far. It is part of the midterm assessment. Everybody got very nervous knowing that this presentation will be graded and part of our marks.

Untitled4

We started to work on the presentation. We divided the tasks among the four of us. As for me, I’ll prepare for the explaining the message and the scenes that have been done. I chose several shots from the scenes and put it into the powerpoint slides. However, something unexpected occurred during the presentation. The videos were not working and caused problems.

Fortunately the tutors understand the situation and said that they could see our progress. Glad that they did. Fuhhh.

Reflection :

I learnt from this week that I should not take things easily. I should have prepared back-up files if the videos were not working. I felt extremely guilty towards my group members because the main part of the presentation was my part – to explain what we have done so far.

After the presentation, we went to Mr Helmi and Brother Fuad to fix the problem. Luckily, brother Fuad taught us something new – some tips. He said that we should put all the videos into a folder, together with the powerpoint presentation. Now, I know the mistakes. I had the files in a folder, but not the powerpoint. I should have put the powerpoint slides into the folder as well. That’s a REMINDER for me for next time.

As for Mr Helmi, he adviced us to not putting the videos in the powerpoint. He said that we should just open the videos in any video player like usual. Mr Helmi’s advice is good, but the thing is, I’m afraid that if I were to open the videos within the presentation session, it might be a bit difficult to switch between the powerpoint slides and the video player. However, I think Mr Helmi’s advice is the best to avoid any undesired things to happens. But, perhaps I could make a folder, and arrange the videos to be opened nicely so that it wil be easier and the presentation can run smoothly. Thanks to both instructors to help out solve the problem 🙂

Apart from that, I had also seen my friends presented the progress using prezi. We were introduced to prezi by our lecturer during semester 1, Prof Amin Embi. He is such an expert in this technology field. Do you know that he is the developer of ifolio.ukm,my? Well, yes he is and he used to teach us before. We learned a lot of things from him and now, it seemed like my friends’re applying what we have learned previously in the class today. That was great. However, the main problem with prezi is that we must have internet connection. Hurmm. That’s a problem. Imagine if we were to present something using prezi, but the connection was down. My god, that fears me. Huhu. This kind of situation has happened several times before during my friends’ presentation. So the best solution is to have, again, BACK-UP PLAN.

If I had enough time, I’m pretty sure that I’ll be using prezi too, and have back-up slides using powerpoint.

That’s all for today. Thank you.

Week 9

Mr Helmi, our instructor has taught us on Adobe Photoshop this week. We were using Adobe Photoshop CS4. I was informed that this version is not the latest one, however it is good enough for beginners like us. Mr Helmi taught us to edit picture using this software. This is how mine looked like :

IMG-20131115-03134

I randomly browsed the picture from the internet. From the picture above, we can see that the background has been removed and some effects were added on. I also added some texts. And texts can be edited too. Yeah I did it.

face

Look what happened to this picture as I was trying to replace the background. Hihi. I failed in trying it out this time because I was not listening to Mr Helmi’s intructions well at that time. Huhu.

Reflection :

I was a multimedia team for a programme before, I was asked to create the official banner for the program, unfortunately I couldn’t. I had to asked help from one of my friend to do it for me.  So when Mr Helmi told us in the previous class that he will teach us to use Adobe Photoshop, I was so excited. Adobe Photoshop CS4 has many features, however it is quite difficult to use, for me. I would prefer other picture editing software compared to this one. I usually use PhotoScape to edit pictures. But let’s put my preference aside, I thank the instructor for teaching us this software. I found it helpful especially the part that we can replace the background. I was curious before this to see how people edit a poster, for example and putting many cropped pictures in the posters. Now, I know. But I think it’s still along journey. I have to keep exploring the software and practice editing more and more pictures.

The lesson for this week is very useful. I can use the knowledge/editing skills that I have learnt in the future in any event or programme. As a future teacher, I think I can teach this to my students too later on. As we know, usually there will be a lot of programmes hold in the school and the students will be the committee members of the event/programme. Though I am going to be an English teacher in the future, I would be glad if I can also teach some ict skills to the students. Well, teachers nowadays must have many skills, not only on their expertise field, right?

So that’s all for now, thank you!

Week 8

This week, we have learned on how to work out on the editing process by using Windows Movie Makers. The lesson was conducted by Mr Helmi and million thanks to him. I learnt new things! Yehhha!

20131101_115012

That’s ‘Audicity’ on the computer screen.

Turns out we can cut our desired part of a song using this application.

Turns out we can cut our desired part of a song using this application.

Though we can't really work it out by ourselves -_-"

We have already edited the first scene of the video , but the quality is very low and we need to retake all the shots again.

This is the draft : 1st Scene Draft Video

Reflection :

I seriously glad that I learnt new things this week. Before this, I could say I thought that we cannot do much with Windows Movie Maker because of the limited features. Now after have been taught by Mr Helmi, I knew I was absolutely wrong. We can do so many things only by using Windows Movie Maker. I think we should explore all the possible features in an application or software to know what can we do using it. I currently begin to try editing the video using Windows Movie Maker. The features are good enough to edit a high quality or standard video.

Windows Movie Maker is user friendly and I can learn quickly. So, in my humble opinion, I think we should be exposed or taught to try using other video editing software. I heard of some before, Sony Vegas, Macro Media Flash, Adobe After Effects and all that. And I would be glad if I can learn to use these softwares in the future.
