Make ready, young one. The time is near for you to spread your wings and fly. Soar, with head held high and spirit aglow. See, the sun rises anew just for you, full of brightness and hope. The world awaits, and you are ready. Fly high!
Reality
It hit me this morning, rather unexpectedly, as I walked through the new building. I have an office there, a generously large space, but that room will soon belong to someone else. My time is winding down. Retirement beckons, and I must begin preparing for the next chapter. Oh, don't get me wrong, I look … Continue reading Reality
Seeking
I stepped into the woods, playing hooky really but not knowing exactly what I'd find or what I really needed. But I had the sense it would be off the beaten trail. It did not disappoint. I needed nature. I needed reassurance that the world was still beautiful, despite all the hate-filled rhetoric filling national … Continue reading Seeking
Missing Friends
It would do us all good, methinks, to make our way back to the Hundred Acre Wood and rejoin our friends Pooh Bear, Piglet, Owl, and Eeyore, Rabbit and Tigger as well. Matters were simpler in the Wood, as I imagine they still are. Life was about helping each other, especially when a friend was … Continue reading Missing Friends
Holy Silence
Sent off with waves and good wishes, the final holiday visitors having departed, we collapse on the couch. Then, as if on cue, one final Christmas gift was presented by unseen hands, though no less welcome. Silence, pure, sweet and delicious as if freshly picked from the garden and warmly presented. Peace, sweet peace at … Continue reading Holy Silence
Preserve and Protect
Hold it carefully, treat it gently, as if handling a wounded bird, or a newborn babe. It is fragile. Protect it fiercely, as so much could go wrong so quickly. Be vigilant, Be watchful for danger, for it is a treasure of indescribable value: peace.
Meaning
Gloom and doom. Controversy, chaos and despair. The headlines are full of it all. It would be easy, really easy to get sucked into the constant ruckus and lose hope. And then there's the neighbor child, so excited to see the first Christmas decorations in place. And, in an instant, meaning and hope restored.
Respite
End of a stressful weekend. Public speaking is foreign to me, but I hope it went well. That business done, I stepped outside into the still, cool evening air, fall color all around me, welcoming, calming. No one to serve, no agenda to fulfill. Simply a moment of quiet rest, to stand within the artistry … Continue reading Respite
Small Victories
I stepped into the woods uncertain of what I really needed. Consolation, comfort, a friendly ear, answers. Immediately I was greeted by a gentle whisper of a breeze, trees softening the mid-day sun. Room enough to wander. I couldn't stay long, but sometimes brief blessings, small victories, are all we can expect from a day. … Continue reading Small Victories
Renewal
The trees seemed welcoming, somehow, branches swaying gently in the fresh morning breeze. Just a hint of color change here and there, heralding the coming switch of seasons as summer's heat gives way to crisp, cool evenings. I found shelter there, protection there, time there to wander, to notice, to feel, to listen to the … Continue reading Renewal
