Commemorating

Posted 3:30 AM by Gerald So

Twenty-two years ago today was no occasion in my life, so I started this blog. I had no plans for it. I'd just post whatever I wanted.

By now it's developed an identity, but I have trouble summing it up, as I do myself. I like to think I'm full of potential, not finished at fifty-one. You're welcome to decide from everything posted here.

Resolutions, from a Certain Point of View

Posted 3:00 AM by Gerald So

"Luke, you will find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view."

Cartoon of myself as a Star Wars Force-ghost, translucent, outlined by a light blue glow, wearing Jedi robe against a dark blue background.

I've been against new year's resolutions a long time, a long time, thinking I had to stick with a resolution the whole year or I failed. Yesterday I realized a new year's resolution can merely be one made at the start of a year, not taking a full year to do.

Here Comes Santa Pause

Posted 4:30 AM by Gerald So

Five days till Christmas and I don't know where my brother and I will spend it. The usual cousin who wrangles our schedules is just back from the Philippines. My brother cantors at several Masses between Christmas Eve and Day. That leaves us available for a short drive to another cousin's in Syosset, but he may be spending Christmas in Florida with his parents.

Anyway, the festive chaos is why I'm reposting a photo of my Christmas tree from years ago. My family may not get together, but we always are in spirit. Probably the biggest part of enjoying the holidays is letting yourself relax, put aside the outside world. If I can do that, I don't think I'll need to do it long. Just a moment to appreciate life is enough.
