I have been stuffing my pockets full of teeny, tiny hemlock cones, getting ready for crafting some christmas ornament creations using beautiful gifts from Mother Nature that I find around our house here in upstate New York. I couldn’t possibly think of a better way to make gifts for loved ones, than to include a piece… Continue reading Collecting Hemlock Cones
Handmade Peter Pan and Tinkerbell Costumes
I just had a wonderful time creating these cute costumes for my husband’s grandma and her friend! I made it easy for myself by finding some oversized men’s long sleeved shirts at the nearby Walmart, and cut them up to resemble Peter Pan’s outfit from the cartoon. They turned out even better than I imagined!… Continue reading Handmade Peter Pan and Tinkerbell Costumes
Look At All The Lovelies!
Great finds in the ol’ thrift shop! I seriously only paid $13 for everything showing in this picture. I know, right? I am constantly on the lookout for unique vintage dishes. I love to keep a rotation of various patterns and colors in my cupboards, and can never have enough glass containers to store my homemade foods… Continue reading Look At All The Lovelies!
Vintage Pyrex Colonial Mist Bowls
Great find while out vintage shopping today. I hardly ever come across a full set of Pyrex dishes, and was dighted to find that every piece in this set is in perfect condition! These pretty little ladies are available for purchase at my Etsy shop. I just love a good find!
Pretty Little Percolator
Check out this lovely 9 cup Corningware coffee percolator! What a terrific find – all the percolating but are accounted for inside. Only defect – a bit of the plastic has chipped off in the lid – but the bits are still there if one might like to try their hand at gluing it back together.… Continue reading Pretty Little Percolator
I Love Old/New
In all seriousness, I really, truly do love to make old things look new. I can make pretty little things out of fancy new fabrics project after project, but it never gives me the same feeling of complete and utter satisfaction like up-cycling does. Sewing with all of those designer fabrics makes me mostly feel,… Continue reading I Love Old/New
Hand felted doll hair
So I made this doll months ago. I really was excited to be making something that seemed to be of substance and real artistic design, and was originally going to sell it on Etsy. But….. I just can’t bring myself to do it. I have been hiding her away because I don’t want anyone else… Continue reading Hand felted doll hair
Casserole carrier
So… It has been a while….. Months and months, actually. What have I been up to? Oh…. You know… Just being PREGNANT! Ha! As of today I am 19 weeks along. Almost halfway there already! So, needless to say, I have been extremely distracted by all that pregnancy entails, like being super crazy tired and… Continue reading Casserole carrier
Goin ’round
As great as the holidays have been, I have to admit that I am oh so happy to finally get back to normal around here. My every waking moment has been completely consumed with making gifts for family and friends… Which I loved, don’t get me wrong… But as for getting it together with my Etsy store and my blog? Ha! I have done NOTHING for over a month for either of these things.
So here I am. Back to making dolls. I have lots of great new ideas!
But, there is something bothering the heck out of me.
As many dolls and doll-like things that I have made, there is still one thing that I just can’t seem to get the hang of. I can not sew around a small curve to save my life. It is always crookedy and wonky… When I think I did a perfect bend and finish sewing it up and take it off of the machine to look at it, it is crooked. I mean. Come on!
I’m irritated. And I am sure that there is a simple solution to my problem, like a narrow edge presser foot, or something. But, I never think about purchasing these things until I need it, and why put off what I am doing to order this special foot… Just get on with it and if it’s wonky just tell everyone that is what gives that special little doll so much darn charm and character. Done.
Feel free to offer any suggestions here.
Currently I sewing fairly slowly around the curves, with the needle stopping automatically in the down position, so that I can stop and ever so slightly turn the fabric without pulling at it. That’s all I got. Should I just draw the seam allowance on and then sew?
Getting creative with some Chair Sashes
David and I were going through all the craziness in the back room, trying to purge our house of all things we do not need when we uncovered this mound of shimmery gold fabric, all wadded up in a ball. So….. I have somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 of these giant gold taffeta chair… Continue reading Getting creative with some Chair Sashes
