Authoring Nether-Staining and Beyond – and sending to the world

Home Sweet Home…

I bid thee welcome, friend…

Whether you’ve arrived here on purpose or have got lost in the horrible black void that is the internet, I hope you enjoy your visit. You won’t regret arriving here…especially once you’ve tasted the Priest’s Hole at the Dog & Duck. But that is assuming you have the desire to visit Nether-Staining, a fictional village in the Yorkshire Dales, the inhabitants of which feature in the series of novels grouped as “The Annals of Nether-Staining”.

Begin with “Baabaric” before venturing forth to getting “Stoned“, then get thoroughly “Pickled“; all before committing “Blasphemy” in this “(Im)Perfect” world of ours.

Step into a world that is not quite like reality…a world where strange things happen to ordinary folk. A world of comedic science fiction, horror and mystery. And if you dare to take that step, I and all of the residents of Nether-Staining hope you delight in this alternate world. There are some colourful folk who don’t care for outsiders very much…but I’m sure they’ll accept you as one of their own.

If you don’t like to laugh (perhaps you are worried about wrinkles!) and prefer a more serious take on fiction, perhaps you would enjoy a novel comprised of intertwined short stories set after humanity has been decimated by a virus. It might actually happen…and “Viral” might be the novel for you.

Perhaps dogs are your thing, and if so, maybe you would be interested in my memoir of raising a guide dog puppy…complete with pictures. “Puppy Dog Tale” could be the tome for you.

And just in case you fancy a non-fiction, biographical account of life in 1920s/30s Nottinghamshire, being a Gunner in the British Merchant Navy during the Second World War or the experience of being a Pantomime Dame (yes, these three really do all go together!) then perhaps try the memoirs of Albert Johns, my grandfather, “Theatre of Life“.

And now for the boring legal stuff…please note that anything relating to Nether-Staining is copyright to the author, Graham Johns…so please don’t reproduce anything you read here without permission. You have my thanks.

Amazon KDP Alternatives?

I’ve recently been thinking about what alternatives are out there to Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) service. This might be because of the challenge of being found in amongst the multitude of other authors doing the same thing as myself. It is extremely challenging to get noticed in packed-out genres and it often feels like…

Uncertainty and Fortune

In my last post I mentioned about my recent trip back to the UK and I wanted to continue on this theme. I was thinking about the wide range of immigrants I have met since moving to New Zealand and a recurring item that crops up. For a lot of people, they choose to migrate…

Homeward Bound

I’ve been thinking of late about how my novels have themes linked to where you are and where you’re from. Indeed, I visited the UK recently for the first time in a number of years and had moments where I was able to step back and think about my feelings towards this experience. To have…
