Patricia urquiola
was born in 1961 in oviedo, spain. she studied architecture
at the faculdad de arquitectura de madrid.
after transferring to italy she graduated from the milan polytechnic
in 1989 (with a thesis mentored by achille castiglioni).
from 1990 to 1992 she assisted in the courses held by achille
castiglioni and eugenio bettinelli, both at the milan polytechnic
and at the ENSCI, paris.
in 1991 she started working for the furniture company de padova
in milan, heading the product development office, where she
also designed her first furniture items (together with vico magistretti).
between 1993 and 1996 she opened an associated studio with two
friends, working on architecture, interiors, showrooms and restaurants.
from 1996 to 2000 she became manager of the lissoni associati design
group and in 2001 she opened her own studio in milan, focusing on
product design, displays and architecture. she became best known
through her many pieces for moroso. patricia has won many design
awards and spoke at conferences and seminars in various
international universities. her recent work includes projects for
depadova, moroso, agape, B&B, alessi, driade, foscarini, kartell, flos,
molteni, artelano, and others.
Night and day by Patricia urquiola
Is a seating system based on the theme of versatility, the interpretation of spaces through new innovative solutions. Irony, comfort, taste, imagination and rationality come together in this new design by Patricia Urquiola.
Sequence, modular bookcase, by Patricia Urquiola is an example of domestic architecture which takes inspiration from modern compositional styles, introducing concepts of symmetry and asymmetry. A light, airy structure, featuring a thick beam element along which slide doors in various materials: punctured steel in various finishings, wood or etched glass with high impact geometrical designs.

Leonard Theosabrata
Born in Jakarta, July 26, 1977. Graduated from the Product Design Faculty at the Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, CA in 2002. Leonard is currently the head of the Jakarta-based LTD. Leonard Theosabrata Design studio, which focuses on interior and product design. His love for furniture has led him to build Accupunto for which he received the Red Dot Design Award in 2003, and Good Design Award Japan, 2005, and the recent Wallpaper Design Award 2009 for his collaboration with Michael Young for Accupunto.

zaha hadid
was born in bagdad, 1950.
she studied maths at the american university of beirut
(1968 – 1971) and then later architecture at the architectural
association school (AA) in london, UK (1972 – 1977).
after graduating she joined OMA (office of metropolitan
architecture) and became a partner in 1977.
she left to start her own practice ‘zaha hadid office’ in 1980.
hadid has has lectured across europe and america,
she is currently a professor at the university of applied arts
in vienna. in 2004 hadid became the first female recipient
of the ’pritzker architecture prize’. projects include:
vitra fire station (1994) in weil am rhein, germany;
rosenthal center for contemporary art (1998) in cincinnati,
usa; bergisel ski jump (2002) in innsbruck, austria;
BMW building (2005) in leipzig, germany
a winner of many international competitions, but a number
of hadid’s winning designs were never built.
hadid has designed furniture and objects for swarovski,
dupont, sawaya & moroni, alessi and established & sons.
along with ineriors for the guggenheim museum in new york,
the vienna kunsthalle, the hayward gallery in london…
her work has been shown in exhibitions worldwide
among the many museums, we cite here the MoMA in new
york, the MoMA in san francisco and the deutsches architektur
museum in frankfurt. in 2006, hadid was honoured with a
retrospective spanning her entire work at the guggenheim
museum in new york.

2440×1220, Saw, Assemble by Pål Rodenius
Swedish designer Pål Rodenius sells sheets of plywood printed with the outlines of furniture components.
Users are required to cut out and assemble the furniture they need, using Rodenius’ patterns as a guide.
Called 2440×1220, Saw, Assemble, the project formed part of Rodenius’s degree at Konstfack University College of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm.

Unplanned Brutalism by Karim Rashid
The Karim Rashid studio have sent us photos of some limited edition pieces that Karim has designed and are currently being exhibited at the Tina Kim Gallery in New York.
The exhibition is called “Unplanned Brutalism” and will run through the end of December.

RGB by Carnovsky
Johannsen gallery in Berlin present an exhibition of wallpapers by Milanese collective Carnovsky that change under different lighting conditions. Johannsen gallery.
The wallpapers, called RGB, feature superimposed imagery printed in red, green, yellow and blue.
The separate layers are revealed when illuminated by different coloured lights.

The range was created for Italian brand Jannelli & Volpi earlier this year and the exhibition continues until 10 February 2011.

Michael Young
was born in sunderland, england in 1966.
he studied in the furniture and product design program
at the kingston university in london, england and opened
MY-022 ltd. a design office in london. his career spans
little more than 15 years. he established himself from the
very beginning as one of the most interesting protagonists
in his trade because of his constant questioning of typologies
and habits, combined with the passion for technology.
his project approach effortlessly blends east and west,
past and future. it is design as industrial art that interests him,
not in a limited edition, but in mass-production.
michael young currently resides in hong kong, with external
offices in london, iceland and taiwan.
