HeartStrings Quilt Project

Stephanie is making a good start … 3 HeartStrings UFOs finished already and all of them gorgeous!

We’re also continuing to work on the boxes of tops sent to us by Valerie in Maine. Looking at the photo album, 75 photos had been uploaded in 2025 … and two more finishes so far this year. Some of these are getting additional borders to make them a little larger others are being finished as is.

There will be lots more of these finished and donated in the months to come … we don’t have photos of them all but I appreciate everyone who volunteered to help with them.

We had a wonderful week in Maine working on quilts to donate. Here are some of our string quilts …

So we are still working on our larger quilts for donation even though we had fun with the Little Quilt Project. It’s also FUN to use up those leftovers.

This is one of my Rail Fence quilts just finished made from leftover strips and strings.

And of course … Happy Blocks are always a favorite. This is one of the 3 fabric versions but they’re great for leftover novelty fabrics too!

Nancy, Kat, and I have been working to finish tops that were sent in and to pair little quilts with critters.

I wanted to share with you just a few of them all wrapped up and ready to donate.

There are still more and we will get those done and donated too in the coming months.

Our Little Quilt project is finished and I want to thank all of you who participated by sending little quilts or little tops. We’ll be working on finishing up the tops and all of them will be paired with critters and donated.

The little quilts and tops keep coming in! We’ve had a really nice response to our project and lots of kids will have critters wrapped up in these to cuddle in difficult times. That makes my heart happy!

Our project is coming to an end so if you have little tops or quilts to send in please get them mailed in the next 2-3 weeks. I will be sharing these with Nancy and Kat who are both have locations set up for donation.

Please don’t mind the quality of these photos … I had a bunch of packages waiting for me when I got home from Virginia and I wanted to open them and snap some quick photos and make notes about who sent them.

Some are finished quilts and some are tops that will be finished by one of our HeartStrings members. They’ll all be paired up with some cute critters and donated to kids in need.

We’ve been busy!

Look at all the cute little quilts Ann made. She sent them to Nancy who has already paired them up with critters ready for donation.

I finished a couple little ones.

And Jeannie sent in these two cute little quilts.

Our group is working on a Little Quilts project in February and March. Making small quilts and wrapping dolls and stuffed animals in them to donate to children in need.

Some of us got an early start. Nancy is using orphan blocks as the base for many of her quilts.

I tend to use leftover fabric after making a larger donation quilt for mine.

Pair them up with a cute little stuffed animal like this monkey and who wouldn’t want to cuddle up with them?!

If you’re interested in participating we’re asking that the little quilts be about 22 – 24 inches but not more than 30 inches. Many of mine are rectangular so something like 22 or 24 x 26 or 28 would work.

My Mom makes hers 24 inches square starting with a square of novelty fabric and then adding borders.

We will accept tops and quilt and bind them, or finished quilts. You can email me for more details or for an address to mail the little quilts at mmcjohnson@gmail.com

We will provide the stuffed animals.
