We are so saddened to have to tell the readers of Play the Right Way that Steven Finamore passed away on November 14th. He was so loved by his family and friends. His passion, knowledge, and love for the the game of basketball was unparalleled. He will be so so dearly missed and world will not be the same without him. Thank you for your support as it meant so much to him, The Finamore Family

DON’T DISTURB THIS GROOVE

Todd Golden, men’s head basketball coach at the University of Florida. Come on man. Are you serious? Golden is accused of harassing and stalking multiple women, including students. You are young. (39) You have a great job, $3 million per year. A family (married with 2 kids) and you’re chasing skirts? Didn’t these guys learn from the Mel Tucker situation? Billy Tubbs was right…

Kansas and North Carolina this past Friday night at Phog Allen Fieldhouse. Jayhawks win 92-89. Rock, Chalk, Jayhawk were in a “Foul or Defend” and elected to hunker down and defend. They got the stop.

Ole Miss Rebels found themselves in the same situation Friday night against Grambling State and decided to foul. Strategy worked. Like one, D-1 head coach told me earlier this year; it’s 50-50.

Cleveland Cavaliers are 11-0.

What’s up with the Milwaukee Bucks? They are 2-7. After a recent loss to the Knicks Giannis said, “Did we compete? No. If you don’t compete your ass off, you’re not going to win.”

76ers are 1-7

I have a hard time watching the NBA. Shaq has a theory on why others are not watching: “It’s down because we’re looking at the same thing,” O’Neal said on his Podcast. “Everybody is running the same plays…Steph Curry and those guys messed it up. I don’t mind Golden State back in the day shooting threes, but every team isn’t a 3-point shooter. So why everybody has the same strategy? I think it makes the game boring.”

I am glad college hoops is here. High School basketball in the State of Michigan starts Monday, November 11.

Auburn over Houston 74-69.

Austin Peay beat Butler, 68-66. The Governors were underdog 18 points.

Dayton beat Northwestern, 71-66.

Fordham over Seton Hall, 57-56. Jackie Johnson hit a runner as time expired to win it for the Rams.

Marist over Richmond, 79-72.

In the Battle of Brooklyn, LIU beat Pratt, 102-42.

Nikola Jokic recorded his third straight triple-double Saturday night leading Denver to the 135-122 win over Miami.

In 7 games this season, Ben Simmons of the Brooklyn Nets is averaging 6 points per game, 6 rebounds per game and 6 assists per game in 25 minutes. In a recent 4-point OT loss to the Celtics Simmons shot 4-6 for 8 points and dished out 8 assists.

Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau on rookie Tyler Kolek: “He’s a worker and it starts in practice. And if you practice well, you usually play well.”

Bronny James was sent to the G-League. In his debut Saturday night he scored 6 points, had 3 rebounds and dished out 4 assists leading South Bay to the win.

There is a report out there that a high school QB has been offered $10 million big ones to attend the University of Michigan.

Why do college football coaches need a police escort when they are shaking hands following a game? Ohio State coach had 2 cops around him, Purdue coach had 3 cops watching him.

Always play the right way…

LEBRON JAMES

J.J. Redick on LeBron after scoring 39 points against the Memphis Grizzlies:

“I think LeBron was fantastic tonight,” Redick said of James’s performance. “Biggest thing that stood out, he played hard. Almost 40 years old and played the hardest on our team. It says a lot about him.”

LeBron:

“At the end of the day, especially when you lose bodies, you got to compete. You got to compete even harder. You got to be out there giving it everything that you got and on both ends. I think there were times that we did that, but the majority of the time, I don’t think we sustained energy and effort.”

Always play the right way…

KEEP GETTING BETTER

We had our first game on Wednesday.

On the road at Haslett.

“A” and “B” teams both won.

Few things I came away with is we have to make our layups, missed a lot.

And,

We have to take better care of the ball. Too many turnovers.

We have a great group of young men to coach. They listen. Play hard and play together.

The goal should always to look to improve in everything we do, not just sports.

COACH-PLAYER

There was a video clip making the rounds of Las Vegas Aces coach Becky Hammon shouting at her team during a timeout. Funny thing is, we don’t know what was being said, and half the people that watched it will say Hammon was being mean and the other half will say, good for her, they needed to be scolded. As a coach, you can never win.

One time the local media caught me on the sidelines animated and raising my voice with a player. Only problem was most who saw the photo would think I was being mean and negative but in reality I was encouraging the player, letting him know that he was good enough to compete and that he belonged.

Always play the right way…

D.C. IN DA HOUSE

All the major cities like NYC, Chicago, LA and Detroit get much love over the basketball players they produce. One place that gets left out of the talk is Washington D.C. – this area has produced so many great players over the years, they should make a documentary. Here’s the list. Hope I didn’t miss anyone…

Elgin Baylor, Adrian Dantley, Dave Bing, Kermit Washington, Kenny Carr, Adrian Branch, Eddie Jordan, Kevin Durant, Austin Carr, Walt Williams, Randolph Childress, Johnny Dawkins, Sherman Douglas, Thurl Bailey, Sidney Lowe, Delonte West, John Battle, Blue Edwards

A player on the Connecticut Sun, Dijonai Carrington was recently complaining after their game against the LA Sparks. If the league doesn’t get publicity for Caitlin Clark, it gets negative pub for the drama off the court:

“I’m going to keep it real all the time, I feel like Connecticut as a franchise is historically disrespected. So sometimes if you want something, you gotta go out there and do it yourself. So that’s what I did for us. I think that there could have been a lot more publicity or promo from the top. Connecticut had announced that we were having this game probably almost a year ago. There was ample time to do what needed to get done. The game should’ve been on a national television broadcast. You shouldn’t have to pay for any type of subscription to see a game that’s this historic, in my opinion.”

Chennedy Carter of the Chicago Sky had a hard foul on Marina Mabrey last night. After looking at it a few times, she should’ve been thrown out of the game. They gave her a flagrant 1. All she did last night was complain to everyone. She whines to the refs, coaches and teammates. It’s sad. She’s a good player but holding her back from stardom is her constant crying. In the fourth quarter she shot 0-4, had 4 fouls and committed 4 turnovers. She had 6 turnovers in the game.

Yeah, Angel Reese grabbed 20 rebounds against the Sun Friday night but her team lost and she shot 3-12. People talk about her rebounding her own misses, I have no problem with that. But I watch her occasionally snatch a board when she’s the only one around the rim. Reese is shooting 39% from the field on the year.

Indiana Fever take on the Minnesota Lynx Saturday night. The Lynx have beaten the Las Vegas Aces twice in the past four days.

The Staten Island Little League baseball coach was weak with his comments about Aaron Judge. When his team sat behind home plate for the Detroit Tigers-New York Yankees game at the Little League World Series and yelled Judge’s name, the coach told the Staten Island Advance Judge ignored them. “How about turning around or wave to New York and the kids that think you’re a hero?” Laterza said. “They are the ones who pay your salary.”

The Yankees responded by calling Judge “one of the greatest ambassadors of our sport” and said their players connected with many Little Leaguers that day. Judge was also seen interacting with several of the children.

First of all, the coach is way out of line. I watched the game that night and Judge was fine with his interactions. This clown coach was looking for his fifteen minutes of fame. Why are you running to the media? Must be a New York Mets fan.

Great image below of three New York City legendary boys high school varsity basketball coaches. From left to right: Jack Alesi (Xaverian), Don Kent (McClancy) and Tim Leary (St. Francis Prep.)

DEAR ANTHONY EDWARDS…

Over the past couple of years you have said some stupid things. Your latest comments about the players from the 90’s may just be the dumbest thing I have ever heard. “I didn’t watch it back in the day so I can’t speak on it. They say it was tougher back then than it is now, but I don’t think anybody had skill back then. [Jordan] was the only one that really had skill, you know what I mean? So that’s why when they saw Kobe [Bryant], they were like, ‘Oh, my God’ But now everybody has skill,” Edwards told the Wall Street Journal. Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Allen Iverson, John Stockton, Scottie Pippen, Gary Payton, Patrick Ewing, David Robinson, Charles Barkley and Chris Mullin all were highly skilled.. The list goes on but I’ll stop right here…

The N.I.L. deals in college basketball are wild. Give each athlete $500 per week.

Did you see Caitlin Clark this past Sunday against the Seattle Storm? 23 points and 9 assists. Fever won 92-75. Clark picked up her 5th tech of the year. Two more and she’ll be suspended for one game. She was named A.P. Player-of-The-Week. Back in March, LSU head coach Kim Mulkey had this to say about Clark: “She’s just a generational player and she just makes everybody around her better, that’s what the great ones do.”

Jewell Loyd of the Storm reminds me of a smaller version of Mark Aguirre.

Lexie Hull of the Fever made 6 3’s.

The Storm head coach was upset about something at the end of the game. Seattle had entered the game 3-0 vs Indiana this season.

I don’t know if this is true, the announcer on ABC said no WNBA player has ever averaged 15 PPG and 8 APG in a single season. Have to research that. CC is at 17 and 8.

The Fever have already matched last year’s win total of 13. They have 12 games left.

Dennis Schroder’s comments on Euro ball players: “European basketball is no entertainment, it’s straight IQ basketball, straight coaching. Really, really high IQ guys who know how to play the game. Serbia, Greece, Spain, France, Germany, so many teams out there who know how to play, is athletic, and I think there’s a lot of people from Europe in the NBA who make some noise.” Kevin Durant responded, “Entertainment and I.Q.” while holding his Gold Medal. Germany lost in the Bronze game to Serbia.

Happy birthday to the late, great, Wilt Chamberlain. Wilt would’ve been 88.

R.I.P. Al Attles. Al and Wilt were teammates for 5 years with the Warriors.

Always play the right way…

WHO GOT NEXT?

Good story from Mike Vaccaro of the New York Post on 3-on-3 basketball. (Thanks to Rich Nolan foe the assist.)

“The second-greatest sport ever invented was basketball,” Brendan Malone told a couple of hundred of us sprawled lazily on the basketball floor at Camp Lake Bryn Mawr. It was a diverse audience. Some of us would play in the ACC and the Big East in a few years; some of us would log 17 total minutes of varsity high school basketball.

“But the greatest, bar none, was three-on-three basketball.”

WNBA ACTION IS…

On Saturday afternoon I sat down to watch the WNBA – and it wasn’t Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever. I checked out the New York Liberty visiting the Las Vegas Aces on CBS. It was a good game, Liberty came out on top 79-67. A few thoughts…

It was a WNBA doubleheader, the game before had the Lynx-Mystics. It was a blowout. Lynx win easily. Why did CBS keep us when the game was out of reach? Aces-Liberty started at 4, it wasn’t until 4:11 until the game ended, luckily though we missed just one minute of action.

All the nonsense from the media, fans and coaches about looking rusty, long layoff, jet lag, early start, tired, fatigue, needs to stop now. It’s all excuses. These women are playing basketball. The games last 40 minutes. No one plays the entire 40. Some barely play. How can you be tired? You’re in good shape, you’re young and making decent money playing a game you’re supposed to love. Get in better shape. Stop with the excuses and play ball…

Becky Hammon and her staff wear hoodies under what looks like a Faux jacket – strange look. They’re all dressed alike. Except Hammon’s hoodie is red, the assistants sport white hoodies.

Lisa Byington and Sarah Kustok were on the call. They didn’t do a bad job except for the word vomit. The analyst, Sarah talks way too much. Like lady, you’re telling me everything I just witnessed. Tell us how something happened, not what just happened. And I wish LB would stop saying, “it’s a two-possession game.

Sabrina Ionescu is my second favorite player in the WNBA. Yesterday she Put on a show. 23 points and 6 rebounds including her 52nd straight game where she has made a 3. She also knocked a logo 3 off the dribble.

Breanna Stewart, the best female basketball player in the world (sorry Aja Wilson fans) scored 18 points with 7 boards.

Liberty look strong. They have the best record in the league at 23-4. Aces fall to 16-9. It’s the second time the Liberty have beaten the Aces this year.

I like Kelsey Plum’s game but she barks at the officials too much, always crying for a foul. . At the end of the game when she was dribbling the clock out she went over to the official and was talking to them. Not a cool look.

The Las Vegas crowd was chanting, “ref you suck.” That’s dumb. The refs don’t suck and what would you do if we didn’t have any officials? A lot of traveling, no calls, said 10 Outta 10 while watching the game.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. was court-side.

Aja Wilson scored 24 points for the Aces. The Aces scoring just 67 points is weak. Credit New York’s defense but LV shot 36% from the field, including 29% from distance. After the game Hammon said, “That’s not how we play.” Well I certainly hope not.

The teams shot a combined 21 for 23 from the free-throw line.

Big game today with the Seattle Storm and Indiana Fever at 3:30 on ABC…

Always play the right way…

GHOST SCREEN

Indiana Fever beat the Phoenix Mercury 98-89 Friday night in Indy. It was the third win of the season for Indiana over Phoenix. Caitlin Clark led the way for the Fever with 29 points, 10 assists and 5 rebounds. Kelsey Mitchell added 28 for the Fever. She made 6 3’s.

I’m so into watching Clark and the Fever that I passed up watching the New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers from the D.

A troll on the Fever’s Instagram account told me, “Caitlin Clark hasn’t done anything yet.” WOW!

Nalyssa Smith and Damiris Dantas of the Fever should not shoot 3’s. They were a combined 0-5.

The analyst on ION last night talks way too much. I’m not sure why these people feel the need to tell us a story while we’re watching the game. It’s word vomit. I don’t think the announcers realize how amazing Clark’s passing is. They seem to overlook when she connects with a teammate. Too much psycho-babble.

Mercury owner Matt Ishbia was court-side.

Both teams shot 14-36 from distance. Diana Taurasi was 3-10. From the free-throw line they were a combined, 41-45.

Mercury have four Olympians on their team. How are they 14-13 on the year?

Pat Boylan does a decent job for ION as play-by-play guy.

At one point in the game Indiana led by 28.

When the Fever are playing and they do a sideline interview, it should only be with Clark.

There were a couple of situations last night when tempers flared but nothing to write home about. It looks a lot worse when 10 security guards and the coaching staffs run on the court trying to break it up.

Tyrese Halibruton was at the game.

Loose balls, turnovers and assists:

Sage Steele needs to go away. She sent out a message to her friend, Sam Ponder on Instagram. Turns out ESPN fired Ponder. So Steele, instead of picking up the phone and calling her, she has to show everyone it’s all about her. Awful look. “This is another loss for ESPN, but it is a gain for literally the rest of the world because now you’re going to see the true Sam Ponder. It’s all going to come out, and I hope you’re ready. She is a gem. Samantha has taught me so much about God, about scripture, about the bible, about not giving up and about standing tall. And you know what, she’s done that for the last several years at ESPN, even when it was hard.” Oh please…

I had no problem with the “Hawk Tuah” girl, Hailey Welch throwing out the first pitch at Citi-Field. Why were people upset?

Media on media beefs are dumb.

The Detroit judge who put the teenage girl in handcuffs and jail garb was out of line. That was too much.

Michael Cooper criticized Luka Doncic calling him, “lazy.” Why do old school players dislike today’s stars. Can we have one guy say something nice about today’s players?

Connor Stalions, former coach at the University of Michigan has been hired as D.C. at Detroit Mumford high school.

Happy birthday Christian Laettner, he’s 55.

Always play the right way…

WINNIN’ TIME

Wanted to bring your attention to an outstanding book, “Sunday Money” written by Maggie Hill. Here’s an overview:

It’s 1971, but for Claire Joyce and girls’ basketball, it might as well be 1871. Stilted rules (three-bounce dribbling, two roving players for full-court games, and uniforms that include bloomers) set their play unfairly apart from the boys’ basketball Claire’s older brother John has trained her in.

Basketball is the only constant in Claire life, and as she enters her teen years the skills she’s cultivated on the court—passing, shooting, and faking—help her guard against the chaos of an alcoholic mother, an increasingly violent younger brother, and the downward spiral her beloved John soon finds himself unable to climb out of. Deeply cut from the cloth of the Catholic Church, Brooklyn’s working class, and the limited expectations her world has for girls, Claire strives to find a mirror that might reflect a different, future self. Then Title IX bounces on the scene. Suddenly, girls’ basketball becomes explosive, musical, passionate, and driven—and if Claire plays it just right, it just might offer a full ride to a previously out-of-reach college.

Sunday Money follows Claire as she narrates her way through 1970s Brooklyn, hustling on and off the court and striving to break free of the turmoil in her home and the rulebook “good” girls are supposed to follow.

I don’t care what they say. The youth athlete advocates for equal playing time, everyone gets a trophy and it doesn’t matter if you win or lose crowd. Stop right there…It’s all about winning. Especially at the professional level. I am talking about the WNBA. They’re back after taking one month off.

Last night I watched two games; Chicago Sky-Phoenix Mercury and the LA Sparks – New York Liberty.

The Mercury went into Chicago and crushed the Sky, 85-65. And I am sorry but I have to hold the announcers accountable, they were brutal. Basketball is a team sport, but you already knew that. The media is making us believe that it’s about the individual. Case in point, Angel Reese. The media is trying their hardest to make this woman out to be a superstar. It’s not even close. She’s not even a star, she’s a role player, like I have been saying since the beginning. She’s a good rebounder, that’s it. But listen to the announcers on these games and you would think they were talking about Michael Jordan.

Last night Reece shot 4-14 from the floor. 4 for 14! At the half she was 1 for 8. Reece finished with 15 rebounds and 11 points in 32 minutes. She had 1 assist and was a minus 14. The announcer must’ve told us one hundred times times about her 18th double-double and a record breaking performance on the offensive glass. Who cares about that? Especially when your team is down 20! In the post-game presser a member of the media asked her about breaking another record and to Angel’s credit she shot it down saying she doesn’t care about any records – I believe her. She wants to win. And I admire that in her. It’s the media that is screwing all this up.

How about this? The local network (game was on Prime, but it sounded like the Sky announcers) named Reese “Player-of-The-Game.” Dana Evans was the only Sky player doing anything; she should have been named player-of-the-game. 6 for 10 shooting in 23 minutes for 14 minutes.

Jet Lag: The announcers kept mentioning how would the Olympians do after their trip back from France. They talked about legs and energy, etc. Please. Stop the nonsense. They’re playing basketball. They’ve had a few days off. It’s not like they were playing 40 minutes a game in the Olympics. All the participants looked fine. They looked fresh. Especially Kaheleah Copper of the Mercury – she scored 29 points on 12 of 19 shooting in 35 minutes. Copper was T’d up in the second half for kicking the ball at the ref. Diana Taurasi played 30 minutes and looked fine. For the Liberty, Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu also looked fine. I dislike when announcers try to tell us how these athletes feel. They have no idea. One announcer said, “Where would their legs be?”

Chicago shot 4 for 19 from distance. 7-14 from the free-throw line. Not one Sky player was in France. They were well-rested. Chennedy Carter did not play for Chicago.

Enough of all the talk of Caitlin Clark being snubbed by Team USA. Alright, we get it. Move on…

Liberty were up 29 at the half on the Sparks – I shut it off. They won 103-68. Sparks are awful. They had 20 turnovers. Liberty had 31 assists.

Announcer on the Sky game said, “Usage rate.” LOL

Another dandy: After the Sky scored the last basket of the third quarter, the announcer said “The Sky with a little momentum heading into the fourth quarter.” Yeah, right.

“If it is not broken, don’t change it.” Seriously, I can’t make this up. An announcer actually said that last night.

Mercury visit Caitlin Clark and the Indiana fever tonight…

Always play the right way…

WE’RE ONLY BUGGIN’

The WNBA is back tomorrow night. My favorite team, the Indiana Fever play Friday night. I wrote something positive about Caitlin Clark on IG and some troll came at me. What is wrong with people? Must be an Angel Reese fan. Dan Dakich brought attention to a Bishop ripping fans of Caitlin Clark. I can’t even find the strength to repeat what the guy tweeted out. And he’s a Bishop!

Dearica Hamby of the LA Sparks is suing the Las Vegas Aces. She claims head coachBecky Hammon bullied her. Hamby also cites discrimination, acts of intimidation and retaliation. Stay tuned…

How about the Serbian celebration after winning the Bronze Medal over Germany. They said officials had to pull the players out of the bar for the Medal ceremony.

Tyrese Haliburton had a funny response on social media posing with his Gold Medal. “When you don’t participate in the group project but still get an A.”

Why does Noah Lyles feel the need to be so negative? Why can’t he celebrate success attained by others? Draymond Green and Baron Davis went after Lyles for his mask wearing, Covid-blaming, wheel-chair situation.

Kudos to Mike Tirico of NBC. He did a fine job in studio. I have met Mike twice over the years and seems like a good guy.

Why are people in such a rush to discuss men’s and women’s basketball teams for the 2028 Olympics? Enjoy the moment people…

D-Lo, you’re not on Steph Curry’s level. Just stop the nonsense.

Little League World Series starts today.

R.I.P. Frank Selvy. He was 91. Selvy once scored 100 points in a game for Furman.

Always play the right way…

JUST DO THE WORK

USA women beat France in the Gold Medal game, 67-66. The Americans win their 8th straight Gold. They have won 61 straight games in the Olympics. Last loss was in 1992 against the Unified Team (formerly the Soviet Union.)

France had a chance to tie with 3.8 left. Down 3 with the ball they got a shot off, it went in but it was a two-pointer. I always say, you have to know time and score, time and score.

Aja Wilson led the way with 21 points. USA took 34 free-throws to 13 for France. France made all 13 of their attempts. Gabby Williams scored 19 points for France. Would love to see Gabby play for the Indiana Fever. She currently plays in Europe.

USA was 2-12 from distance. France, 7-36.

Leave Diana Taurasi alone. She earned her spot on the team. DT won her 6th Gold Medal.

Kendrick Perkins said Steph Curry is a Top 5 All-Timer. I disagree. I have Steph at #10.

Noah Lyles needs to cool out with his comments. Why is he hating on American athletes?

2024 USA Team or 1992 Dream Team? I researched something this morning. In the Gold Medal game in 92, USA shot 5-13 from 3 and they won the game scoring 117 points. 2024 won their Gold scoring 98 points and shooting 18 for 36 from 3. Steph took 13 shots. Crazy…

LeBron James is closing the gap on the greatest player of all-time tag. It’s still Michael Jordan but it’s getting closer.

Caitlin Clark was at Yankee Stadium over the weekend taking in a New York Yankees game.

USA 98 FRANCE 87

Steph Curry is the greatest outside shooter in the history of basketball, just in case you didn’t know it. Curry made 8 3’s in the Gold Medal game leading the Americans to the victory. In the last 2:48 of the game he made 4 3’s. An incredible display of shooting. In USA’s last two games Curry shot 17 for 27 from distance. Most guys couldn’t do that in a shooting drill.

LeBron James handed out 10 assists and scored 14 points. He was named the tournament MVP.

France gave it their best effort but came up just a bit short. They had a shot, they were down 3 with 2:48 left in the game but Curry decided to take over.

There was tremendous energy in the building. You could feel it through the television.

Once again, it was an easy mute, the announcers were awful. They ruin the game with their word vomit. Dwayne Wade is a cheerleader who says the same thing every game. How did he get this gig? Noah “Screamin’ Eagle tried to be too cool. He makes it about him. Let us watch the game and listen to the crowd, please. “Anthony Davis is playing like a grown man,” Wade said. D-Wade, hate to tell you but A.D. is 31 years-old.

Why do people wear sunglasses indoors, sitting court-side? Jimmy Fallon, Stephon Marbury, and Carmelo Anthony. Even Anthony’s son had shades on.

Another dandy from Wade late in the game, “It’s now or never.”

I like Victor Wembanyama and all, how can you not? But a few of his 3’s were bad shots. The 20 year-old scored 26 points on 11-19 shooting, 3-8 from deep.

If Joel Embiid had decided to play for France instead of the U.S., France wins this game. He played 11 minutes. I know he gets a lot of heat from people but this cat can play.

France had back-to-back turnovers down the stretch which cost them big-time.

Steph and LeBron had 5 turnovers each. So you see Caitlin Clark haters, it’s okay.

Eagle: “It’s cloudy with a chance of Curry’s.” SMH – And the “screaming” one also threw in his usual, “Two-for-one if they hurry,” and “It’s a two possession game.”

Jayson Tatum played 11 minutes. Tyrese Haliburton, who did not play is a great teammate on the sidelines.

USA had 29 assists on 36 made field goals.

Isaia Cordinier of France was 0-5 from the field. Frank Ntilikina 0-2. Evan Fournier played 19 minutes. Big mistake, he should’ve played more.

Kevin Durant and Devin Booker each scored 15 points.

Always play the right way…

NIKOLA JOKIC

Despite what Kevin Durant tweets on social media, Nikola Jokic is the best player in the world. It’s not even close. Sorry K.D.

In the Bronze Medal game Jokic led Serbia to a 93-83 win over Germany. Jokic recorded just the fifth triple-double in Olympics history; 19 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists in 38 minutes. LeBron James has two of the five triple-doubles.

Bob Cousy needs to shut the hell up with his opinion on Steve Kerr not playing Jayson Tatum. This guy hasn’t coached a game in 50 years. And how about Tatum’s mother on social media? WOW! Hey Miss Tatum, why not get Coach Kerr’s cell number from Jayson and call him. Why go on social media and air your concerns? And Dick Vitale, please, no one wants to hear what you have to say about Tatum not playing. The goal is to win the Gold Medal, shut up please. The most critical are the least knowledgeable.

How about the skateboarding dude ripping the quality of the Bronze medal. “Not as high quality as you would think,” Nyjah Huston said. Skateboarding should not be in the Olympics.

Flag carrying at the closing of the Olympics for U.S.A. should be Simone Biles.

I watched U.S.A. women’s basketball against Australia in the semi-finals. The analyst LaChina Robinson said about an Aussie player, “She is better when she has contact around the rim.” Here’s another one: “I don’t think there’s a higher percentage shot on the floor than 6’9″ with two feet in or around the paint.”

Robinson’s broadcast partner Noah “Screamin” Eagle said, “Two for one if they hurry.” No my friend, stop with the two for one crap. Don’t hurry on offense. Get a good shot. I never understood why announcers say that. Eagle and Robinson are a mandatory mute. Word vomit at it’s finest.

Lauren Jackson was out there balling for the Aussies. She’s 43.

Breanna Stewart is better than Aja Wilson.

Carl Lewis complaining about U.S.A’s men’s 4×100 relay was weak. They lost, deal with it. It’s the fifth straight Olympics the Americans failed to medal. Gotta love the ladies 4×100 taking Gold. It’s their twelfth Gold in Olympic history. Too many pouters and whiners. Stop it, please.

Why is break dancing in the Olympics?

Alex Morgan wants to know why Jayson Tatum got another DNP-CD against Serbia?

Men’s basketball Gold Medal game today at 3:30: France vs U.S.A. – Tomorrow the ladies go at it, France and U.S.A. for Gold. The ladies are going for their eighth straight Gold.

USA and China deadlocked at 33 Gold Medals…

Always play the right way…

CLOSE, BUT NO CIGAR

The late, great, Kobe Bryant once said, “The European players are not catching up to Americans in basketball, they have arrived and are here.” He wasn’t lying.

USA Men’s basketball found themselves down 17 with 6:00 to go in the first half to Serbia in the semi-finals but made their way back to win 95-91, and land in the Gold medal game against France on Saturday.

Steph Curry led the way with 36 points including 9-14 from downtown. The Americans shot 16 for 32 from 3. LeBron James put up a triple double; 16 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists.

Serbia had a 13 point lead with 9:20 left in the fourth quarter.

The Americans were favorite by 13.5 – no word on who Johnny Point Spread went with.

Jayson Tatum with another DNP-CD.

USA head coach Steve Kerr said, “It was one of the greatest basketball games I’ve ever been a part of.”

The game was exciting but Track and Field may just be my favorite sport at the Olympics. Sprinters are amazing.

Noah Eagle has a habit of screaming and trying to be real cool on the broadcast. Not to mention he is captain obvious. “It’s a five point game with 4:25 to play.” Why are you telling us that? We can see it on the screen. Another line Eagle threw out, “A different level of swag for sure.” SMH. Him and D-Wade are an easy mute.

France was in a foul or defend in their semi-final game against Germany. They elected to give the foul. Strategy worked.

Ato Boldon, track analyst for NBC is the best broadcaster in the business. It’s not even close. Actually I take that back, Sean McDonough is very good.

Not sure why the former gymnast MyKala Skinner went on the attack against USA gymnastic team. That was weak. And then she was asking Simone to call off the dogs on social media.

Tuesday, men’s basketball quarterfinals may have been the best day in basketball under one roof I have ever seen.

Charles Barkley makes $21 million a year. And he wants to retire? Guy has the easiest job in America.

Cris Carter going after Skip Bayless is weak. Everyone’s a tough guy behind a microphone.

Noah Lyles got the bronze in the 200M. Kenny Bednarek got the silver. KB is my favorite sprinter.

Dan Dakich has been destroying Jim Harbaugh on his podcast. He’s also thrown in Jim’s dad Jack and brother in-law Tom Crean. “Go follow Tom Crean’s twitter and let me know what you think?” Said Dakich. Double D also added, “You don’t know how full of shit these coaches are.”

Why is the media so concerned about Michael Jordan’s son’s love life? Who cares who the guy dates?

Caitlin Clark has been spending her off-time at County Fair’s, Basketball clinics and giving out back to school supplies to students.

Anyone know where Peter Vecsey has been?

TALK TO ‘EM

Men’s Olympic basketball quarterfinals taking place on Tuesday. Germany beat Greece, Serbia over Australia in OT. At one point in the first half Serbia trailed by 24 points. Later today at noon it’s France-Canada and at 3:30 USA-Brazil.

I am sorry but there are a few sports that should not be in the Olympic games. I’m not going to mention them because I don’t want to tick anyone off. Oh what the hell, let’s start with skateboarding and Equestrian. Eliminate them ASAP.

Noah Lyles’ comments on “World Champion” and the “NBA” were out of line. Gotta stay humble my man, gotta stay humble. No need to stir up drama.

The WNBA rule on players having to decide whether they want to play in the WNBA or play internationally is dumb and needs to change.

3 on 3 Women from USA lost to Spain in OT in the semi’s but they were able to capture the Bronze. I like the OT rule of first team to score two points wins.

The men’s 100M track and field finals was incredible.

Royal Ivey and Luol Deng’s comments about the officials in South Sudan’s loss to Serbia was bush. Take your L like men and move on. I watched Serbia-Australia and Nikola Jokic following the game went over and shook hands with the refs. By the way, Jokic is the greatest, passing 5-man in the history of basketball.

Excellent sportsmanship shown by Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles bowing down to Gold winner Rebeca Andrade.

Note to Adam Silver; NBA All-Star game should be the NBA All-Stars vs the World All-Stars.

Sue Bird and some woman from ESPN, Chiney, both are now saying Caitlin Clark is the Rookie-of-The-Year in the WNBA. Speaking of Clark, she is one of only three players in the Top 20 in 5 major stat categories in the league. And no, Angel Reese is not on that list.

Keyshawn Johnson criticized Kevin Durant. KD went back at Johnson and the former NFL player got mad. If you hand it out, you gotta be able to take it. By the way, all these sports talk shows are awful. Dan Dakich is the only guy worth listening to.

An analyst used the term, “jump endurance.”

I like listening to Gabby Thomas, a sprinter from the U.S.

Kenny Bednarek is my favorite U.S. sprinter. Guy is humble as can be.

DROP THE MIC, PLEASE

There are people in life who should not have access to a live microphone. I’m talking podcasters, sports talk show hosts and broadcasters. Let’s start with Elle Duncan and Sheryl Swoopes. This latest narrative on Caitlin Clark-Angel Reese is ridiculous. Is Swoops kidding me? I thought she played the game back in the day and I think she was a college coach? I’ve never heard of Duncan before this year, she works for ESPN. Dan Dakich talks about her a lot on his podcast and he never has anything good to say about her. Look, I get it, people have a right to their opinion, especially when it comes to sports but why are people making a big deal out of the WNBA Rookie-of-The-Year award? (I actually know why but I won’t go there.) In all my life watching sports, I’ve never heard people talk about “rookie-of-the-year” as much as they do with Reese and Clark. I don’t even want to waste anymore space on these clowns. Just google what these two said and see for yourself.

I had no problem with Sabrina Ionescu shooting the 3 at the end of the game up 10 in the closing seconds against Belgium. Possible tie-breakers boil down to point-differential. The fans were unhappy.

Watching 3 on 3 in the Olympics and the analyst said, “This is exhausting. Both teams looking winded.” How do they know, they’re not playing. That called for a mandatory mute.

Friday night I watched the TBT semi-finals from Philadelphia. Houston Coogs and Carmen’s Crew will meet in the Finals Sunday night.

Watching Gymnastics Saturday morning love how the participants cheer for each other. Pretty cool. There’s too much “GOAT” talk with Simone Biles. I’m tired of it.

Trinity Rodman made a big goal in USA’s win over Japan in women’s soccer. I don’t understand the whole extra time thing though. Men’s USA soccer made it to the quarterfinals but were knocked out by Morocco 4-0. It was the first time since 2000 men’s soccer made it to the quarters.

After Jayson Tatum had two dunks early in the game against Puerto Rico, analyst Dwayne Wade said, “Getting two dunks will open up Tatum’s outside shooting.” Tatum went 0-0 from distance the rest of the game.

I love watching Track and Field in Paris. Sha’Carri Richardson is my favorite runner.

Rest in Peace Floyd Layne. The former CCNY Beaver was 94.

WHO GOT NEXT?

Why does it seem like what happens away from the field or court of competition outweighs the actual event itself and the results? Take for instance gymnastics; a former gymnast comes out and criticizes this current crop of ladies and the entire world goes nuts. (Well not the entire world) Jayson Tatum doesn’t get any run for Team USA in a game and the hoop fans are coaching from their phones. Team USA has 12 players, hard to get everyone in. Just STFU, please. Everyone is soft. Toughen up buttercups and move on…

Dwayne Wade is an awful analyst on the Olympic basketball games but he had a funny line calling people on social media, “social media coaches.” Not sure why Wade feels the need to say, “uh-oh” every time someone makes a nice move. The former Marquette great added, “There are a lot of people out there not familiar with Derrick White’s game.” HUH? And speaking of awful announcing, Chris Russo went after a tennis analyst for “talking too much.” These broadcasters would be much better if they cut down on their word vomit.

Watched Puerto Rico vs Serbia in men’s basketball on Wednesday. Nikola Jokic was 1 assist away from a triple double in the Serbs 107-66 win. 14 points, 15 rebounds and 9 assists in 23 minutes, including some great baseball outlet passes. Jokic was removed from the game after the third quarter with Serbia up 25. He’s the #1 player in the world.

Serbia was on a 2-on-1 break and the guy with the ball pulled up for a long 3. Analyst Ribbie Hummell said, “Nobody wants a layup anymore.” Hummell is another guy that talks way too much. He knows the game and does a decent job but way too many words. The former Purdue Boilermaker also mentioned the topic that comes up every summer during international play; fundamentals not being taught at the grassroots level here in America. Easy Robbie, our youth coaches are doing a good job. Everything can improve.

Chris Ortiz and Jose Alvarado of P.R. both played their high school ball at Christ the King in Queens, New York.

Noah Eagle is a certified jock-sniffer.

Joel Embiid didn’t get any burn against South Sudan in USA’s 103-86 win and could be seen pouting and not being a good teammate on the bench. Not cool. Cheer for your guys when they do well. Don’t pout.

USA men’s and women’s 3 on 3 teams are winless, 0-5. They need new players. The process for making the team is ridiculous.

I miss watching Clark and the Indiana Fever…
