Rome Strong is a sinner. In fact today alone; he has created a network of liars and thieves, who go about pretending to be Lords over small time ghetto drunks.
Rome is not having a beautiful day, rather his day has just been filled with one hopeful dream after another. It’s 4:00am and his been tossing and turning in bed usually bumping into her – he didn’t care. Right now money is on his mind. Wondering where the next hustle will come from – he quickly throws himself off the bed. Standing in the dark of his bedroom, his mind remembering the conversation at ZumbaS.
“Two pissed off at the world kinda drunks sat in front of him. Despite having a cold bottle of Heineken each and a platter of Isiewu – they still had the zeal to wrap up a joint. Rome didn’t seem surprised, although their loud conversation vibrated throughout ZumbaS. ”
..The flicker of light illuminates the room. She is staring at him as he too stares back. Neither surprised at what’s happening right that moment. …
Rome knew. He had always known he would break her heart. He only cared about himself. He used to care about her so much, when she believed in his lies. Now he didn’t know what to say. He had no lie to tell her now. He didn’t feel like lying anymore. She deserves better.
He walks out of her life that night.
Thinking of how he could ever love again. He knew she wouldn’t understand. He hoped she’ll be able to give herself to someone else. He psyches himself to believe she will.
In the beginning of a new day.
He prays to do the right thing.
Founders believe.
In the process.
In the challenge.
In the options.
The tenacious ability to rise above the situation – is in a founders DNA.
I recall, progressing with my first startup idea required strength. I was scared because of so many reasons. I had just dropped outta college, my grades were perfect: but I lacked technicality for the type of startup I was going into. I didn’t have any money, I had never worked in the industry my startup idea would thrive in. OMG, I was petrified.
However, I had the “nevertheless” spirit. I knew that was enough, so I dived in head first. I started creating a blue print for success. I didn’t believe in failure, but I failed. I failed to see options, identify opportunities and even to snag cofounders who saw something in me. Due to the fact that I was already equipped with a “nevertheless” spirit – I succeeded where others thought was impossible. I have always kept a gratitude journal – so I had proof of where I was failing and where I was succeeding.
Fast forward, 21 years later.
I have 252 gratitude journals.
In each one, I relive the experience.
Each one has inspired others that have always known me to be (in their own words) “that rude guy that’s always scribbling in his notebook”. Because of this “behavior” – Not only have I succeeded where others thought was impossible, I have also succeeded where others had failed before.
What’s in a belief?
The DNA of your vision.
Until we teach ourselves how to narrate our story clearly, others will find it difficult to relate with it.
Yes, everything is about people.
Impacting them.
Influencing them.
Being of service to them.
Supporting them.
All very important.
But what matters most is remembering the purpose of starting your startup.
Create a relatable story behind it.
Tell it with passion.
Live it daily, without regrets.
Inspire others with it.
Very soon you’ll find out why you’ve become everyone’s favorite motivator. It’s in your best interest to keep yourself in the spot.
