After E3 (June 2012)

As many of you know, this week has been one of the most interesting weeks for gaming in the world. Gamers around the world watched intently at livestreams of the game conference known as E3. For those that don’t know, E3 happens once a year around June to showcase all the next big hit games for the coming seasons. Often, E3 unveils entirely new games, or the very first look at different engines and a sneak peek into what’s next in gaming, whether its new gaming engines, new consoles, or just new games.
E3 is mainly closed off to the public, only allowing companies inside the gaming industry and the press to come in and see the new additions. However, recently E3 has become more public through the internet. Millions of people tuned into livestreams for various games and interviews to see what is new in gaming. Among some of those companies were Gamespot, IGN, GameInformer (AKA Gamestop), etc. So if you are interested in looking at their content for the E3, check out their individual websites.

Also, no real news on the PS4 or the Xbox 720 revealed but we will still hope! On the other hand, the Wii U was showcased again at E3 and shows some big promise, especially with Ubisoft offering up Assassin’s Creed 3 with the release of the Wii U. Exciting times friends, exciting times.

Just some highlights from E3 that were my favorite:

Dust 514 (PS3), and FTP (Free to Play) Sci-fi Shooter based in real time with the EVE Online Universe on the PC

Arma III, a new and improved engine, with lighting, big maps, new realism!

Assassin’s Creed 3. A new engine, a new world, a new assassin, and new weapons!

SOPA Bill

Now this is something that frustrates me to no end. Have you heard of the SOPA bill? Not many have. That is because the government has been trying to keep this bill hush hush as much as possible. But why keep it hush hush? Well, do you know what the bill is for?

The way they “sold” the bill was thus, the bill is going to allow the government to outlaw piracy sites, domain names, and censor search results on copyrighted material. Seems like the right thing huh? Wrong. Here, watch this video and understand it a little better. Then if you disagree like I definitely do, then go to http://americancensorship.org/ and send an email stating you do not want this to pass.

New Places, New Things

Wow, time sure flies when you have stuff to do. Anyways, sorry for my recent hiatus from my blog here. However, I do have a few announcements for you.

1. I am very happy to say that I am now a forum moderator for YouTube’s PCMichiana Tech Help Show. Craig Chamberlin, has been an IT guy for many years and knows his way around the Windows OS more ways than you can count. I would definitely suggest you check his channel out, or better yet, go to his website and find him and me on his community forum. Whether you have a tech help question, or just want to chat, we will be happy to have you on the community forums.

2. Many of you may not have heard of the online game World of Tanks. That’s okay, it hasn’t been that popular, besides the fact that it was voted the 2nd best Free 2 Play by the Golden Joystick Awards. That doesn’t impress you… oh, okay, well then you just are playing hard to get. I suggest you take a look at this game though, it is definitely very addictive (might put up a game review of it soon) and keeps getting updated every other month it seems. Anyways, the point of this paragraph is to tell you that my clan that I have joined on WoT (1st WWPD Panzer Division) has been very busy with adding new ideas and branching out to be more of a significant clan, hoping to be up with AOD (Angels of Death) eventually. WWPD is a website/community for Flames of War players. Many of WWPD clan in World of Tanks also play Flames of War, Warhammer, and other table top miniature games. I would definitely check out WWPD’s website and see what they have to offer. So I have been helping with organizing and competing in Company Battles to gain competitive skill.

3. Still on the World of Tanks tangent, I have also been helping out my Clan Leader Darqueling who puts out Let’s Play Videos on YouTube with his audience questions and advising him on some ways to do his video series. He does great Let’s Plays and I sometimes am featured in some of his videos. Anyways, I would like you to check him out at his channel!

Anyways, that is a few things that I am working on. I, myself, am also working on a few secret projects on the side, so keep a watch on this blog.

YouTalent #2

Hello!

Today as I am sitting at the college listening to music, I have decided to post the second part of my YouTalent series. So without further ado, here she is!

Christina Grimmie started off as a ordinary teenage girl that had some talent singing and playing piano covers. Turns out, she didn’t exactly know how much talent. This girl went from a couple hundred views to thousands and eventually millions of views! She usually sings with piano accompaniment played by herself. She happens to be pretty good at listening for chords and rhythms so she usually gets pretty close on the piano. But the real reason she is a YouTube star is her voice. Christina knows her limits of her voice and has worked with it enough to know what she needs to do to get that just right vibrato or high pitch.

Now this YouTube sensation has built her own fanbase, called Team Grimmie, and has been touring with Selena Gomez. If you don’t know who Selena Gomez is, she is a Disney star that started singing career on the side. (Kinda like Demi Lovato) Christina has also released her own CD as well called Find Me with most of the songs written by her. It is an 8 track CD including her debut single “Advice” which has been on the top of the Radio Disney charts for a significantly long time.

No matter what your opinion of her is, people seem to like this new YouTube sensation that brings hope that the future of music isn’t all auto tune.

Anyways, thanks for reading and I will hopefully post the next one of this series in a week. Enjoy!

R.I.P. Steve Jobs

Just yesterday the world lost a great man. A man who had seen his business in his garage turn into an international corporation. His visions, dreams, and goals were awe-inspiring. He led the world through innovation and idealism, and for that he will be missed. Rest in Peace Steve Jobs. Whether we are Apple lovers or PC fanatics, we all feel the sadness of your death. You will be missed and thank you for what you have done for the world.

YouTalent! #1

Hey there!

So I have been thinking of new ideas for my blog and I have thought up an extraordinary one! This idea came from my random obsession of watching YouTube videos in the middle of the night cause I can’t sleep. Anyways, I came up with a series called YouTalent! This series will be all about the amazing talent displayed on YouTube. There are so many people that have unique and wonderful talents that no one knows about. So without further ado, here is your 1st talented YouTuber!

There was so many to choose from, but I must say Tyler Ward is freaking awesome when it comes to singing! He is a musician that does covers of many songs but he has written a few originals as well. He has a studio and is really passionate about what he does. Lucky for you, he will also be featured in a couple other YouTalent videos, just because he is so awesome. Anyways, a clip of Tyler Ward himself. You can check out his Facebook Fanpage >> HERE! Or his own website >> THERE! And of course subscribe to his YouTube page!

Check it out people! This is good stuff here!

This is a cover of popular singer/actress Demi Lovato’s Skyscraper. If you don’t like this version, then you just don’t like the song.

This is a cover of How to Love sung with the lovely Christina Grimmie. She will be featured in the next post of the series. HINT!

HP Touchpad Android?

The title says it all. But first, a recap.

Last week, HP made an announcement saying that is no longer pursuing the tablet market after a notable poor release of their HP Touchpad featuring HP’s own operating system, WebOS. The HP tablet was comparable to the iPad on some levels, but it appears the pending Apple lawsuits against Samsung’s Galaxy Tab has HP scared. So just this last week, HP released that they would be liquidating their stocks of HP Touchpads at unheard of prices. What is unheard of you may ask? Well, you could get a tablet for as little as $99. Just one Benjamin and you could have a tablet worth $500! HP also talked with Best Buy executives, who were angry at the poor sales figures of the HP Touchpad after buying 250,000 units and only selling about 20,000 in the first few weeks. HP got Best Buy to agree to the same reduction in price and thus a boom of the tablet market this past week. Now, it is hard to find a HP Touchpad unless you look at Craigslist or Ebay, where people who were lucky to buy one at the low price are now trying to make a bit of money by selling them for more than $100.

Although HP did say that they were discontinuing the HP Touchpad pursuits, they also said that they are NOT discontinuing innovating and managing the WebOS operating system. There is still a good chance that you will have new apps appearing, even though HP doesn’t manufacture the Touchpad anymore.

Another hint of good news to those Touchpad users! A crew at CyanogenMod as successfully ported a version of the Android OS 2.3 to the Touchpad. (CNET link) So there is a possibility that you may be able to use Android instead of WebOS if you prefer. A $100 tablet, worth about $500 +the ability to change OS’s. Whoever picked one of these Touchpads up sure got lucky!

Cosmic Panda!

I recently discovered a cool new feature of Youtube that has been, hidden from the public, yet fully accessible to it. It is called Cosmic Panda. Now you are probably thinking it is a weird video similar to Nyan Cat right? That is what I thought too! But I was wrong. Cosmic Panda is a new feature of Youtube that changes how you interact with Youtube. It goes for a somewhat sleeker graphite black background as well as makes playing Playlists that you have made or other Youtubers, even easier. It allows for easier viewing of the video, without all the suggestions on the side, and shares a similar system of the “like” button on Facebook. If you want to check this new version of YouTube out, which I definitely recommend since I love sleeker stuff :D, then go to http://www.youtube.com/cosmicpanda

Google+

Ah, the great search engine giant. The “I really don’t have a clue where I am going to find someone that can teach me to play ukulele while riding backwards on a llama in Germany during Oktoberfest!” site. Google, as you probably know, has been sticking its hands into many different markets as of late. Such markets include: Internet Browsers (Google Chrome), OS’s (Chromebooks), and Mobile Phone’s (Android). Their latest attempt is thus something heroic as usual and may be quite a contender.

Google is now into Social Networking!!! Isn’t that exciting?! Say yes, or I really sound like a freak. Anyways, Google has announced Google + is now available to select participants in a closed beta. This beta is invitation only, mainly to “work out the kinks”. Sadly, I see through their scheme of “beta participants”. In reality, Google has done themselves a favor by making their social networking site exclusive. Imagine it this way: If you were walking through a mall of a bunch of stores that offered almost the exact same merchandise as all the others and one was only letting people that they had pre-picked to go in, you automatically want to be able to go into that store. Same way with social networks. If Google plays their cards right with Google +, then Facebook may become the new MySpace.

That said, I am one of those special people invited to Google+ and I must say, there is much I like about it. It’s clean and sleek, not so cluttered as Facebook looks sometimes. It’s also ad-free which is surprising for Google which makes much of its money off its AdSense ability. The ability to drag and drop friends into different circles is also a nice touch. Now I can make geeky comments to my geek friends without everyone on Facebook going, “what the hell is he talking about?”. This could also be in your favor if you don’t want family and coworkers to see those embarrassing pictures of you at the party Last Friday Night. There is many more features that are worth mentioning, but I don’t want to give out all Google+ has to offer.

Since there are very few that follow the blog, if you comment on this post, I can arrange you get an invite to what is Google+. Feel free to comment on the blog as well as subscribe on the sidebar to your right.

Your geek paradise!
