Challenge #04771-M022: Kindness to Strangers

Not all hunts go according to plan. This one went sideways almost from the start. Several young teens find the unconscious Jay and Sunshine, and help them recover. The two make very sure these kids are protected afterwards. -- Anon Guest

They were lucky to be alive when the gang found them. Generally, the enforcers were lazy enough to just shoot until the perp stopped moving. These two had somehow caught enough ire to get beaten to a pulp. There was one in a sweatervest and one with braces. Sweatervest had gone down protecting braces, who had also gone down fighting.

They were a mess. So was the dead-end alley the gang found them in. Broken and battered, bleeding... and still breathing.

They couldn't be left there. Anyone still alive when curfew hit was going to be eliminated. Diin was the one to rig up junk together that would help drag them into shelter. Or something that would pass as shelter.

Challenge #04770-M021: You'd Better Watch Out

While one spirit god gives gifts to all human children and other "welcomed" children, this spirit ensues all "unwelcome" children around the world also get gifts no matter who they are, or where they are. -- Anon Guest

Charity sighed and scooped up her child as ze came home crying. On one hand, the formalised schooling system allowed for a decent education, and allowed children to socialise with their peers. It also, unfortunately, enforced socialisation with bullies.

She wrapped up Wit in

Wednesday, Rants, Reviews, and Randomness

I think I might have a strategy for when, like this week, I have no idea what I'm going to rant about. I have other fictions with few places to go. They can go to my rantspace with some small explanation to the fore.

When I fall in love with something or get a hair up my butt, then the entertainment is put on pause.

Whenever that happens to happen. We shall see.

And at some point in the day I must

Challenge #04769-M020: Not Infallible

It's not often the immortal wizard gets sick. But no one is perfect. Fortunately, hir dragon friend, and pet cat, are there to cheer hir up. -- Anon Guest

There are worse places to fall ill than the middle of nowhere. A forbidden temple, a rift between worlds, doorways to other planes, for example. Thus, Wraithvine was lucky that ze always had hir portable tower. No matter where ze was, ze could have a hearth and a comfortable bed. Unless it was

Challenge #04768-M019: Power's Responsibility

The kid asked what it was like to be a king. They were made king for the day. After a few hours the kid said it was absolutely no fun and by the end of the day? The kid was very glad they were not the king! -- Anon Guest

"Scuse me mister, are you th' king?"

Kosh had to lean to see who was speaking. Small for one of the Castle Boys, and very new to the uniform, too. He recognised

Monday, Backup Reads, Agendas, and Things Undone

I need to check my footnotes in the anthology. And make sure I have the cover done properly. Get the dingdang thing out before February.

The Archive is having its backup reads real soon now. I have a prompt to consider for the Promptcast.

One thing at a time. I shouldn't have too many footnotes to check this year. I'm just procrastinating like fuck about them.

Story whenever the mood sweeps me to get onto that.

Let's get rattling.

Challenge #04767-M018: The Touch of the King

Kormwind X was coming back with their party when they came across a group panicking as one of theirs, one who was young for this, was clutching their chest barely able to breath. Their healer realized the attack was lungs trying to close, and knew what to do. -- Anon Guest

Touring the realm took a lot longer since Dad conquered his way from Earl to King. For the business of the realm to continue, he had to tour it in stages.

Sunday, Streaming and Stuff

The Archive is reading stories, the Promptcast is reading stories. I have to keep an ear out for diverse alarms because I am baking more bread today.

The new cool pack means that I can to ten minutes icing my ankle. Less time on distraction activities, more time for the other things. Theoretically.

I'll see how I go.

The Archive is about to commence. I shall be working on my prompts today, as well as the daily dosage of offerings.

Challenge #04766-M017: Luck Makes Itself

Respectfully touch a teufel horn, with their permission, your wish may just come true. Touch a horn that from a head has been shorn, death shall soon befall you. -- Anon Guest

They say a lot of things about the devilborn. Some of them are even true.

Touch a Teufel by the horn/ Making sure the head's not shorn/ Surely you will become bless'd/ If they tell you "be my guest".

Nobody knows exactly where it came from. Some suppose that the

Saturday, Bread, Aches, and Embuggerances

I have issues with my heel today. On the advice of my physio, I'm leaning on a broomstick as an ersatz hiking pole. All so I don't do more damage to my stupid knotted shoulder. So I have Miss Chaos making the next set of dough while I focus on baking the last batch of dough.

One of my prompts ["Problem Child"] has been elected next week's story prompt. I think I might make two tales out of it.

Yay.

Challenge #04765-M016: Artisinal Assistance

They were an inventor and creator, but also worked with magic. They made special limbs for those missing limbs, braces for those with injured backs and other joints, chairs for those that could not walk, and medicines to ease pain. Best part? These items, no matter how people tried to destroy them, simply repaired themselves, and always returned, undamaged, to the owner. And if the owner was a child? These items grew with the child or changed with the owner's needs. --

Friday, Supplies Expedition

I has moneys, and I need to spend it. Huzzah. We've gone through a whole bunch of supplies and we need other supplies to unfuck a few things.

Meanwhile, the bread has commenced. I'm enlisting the kids to help with the dough schedule.

I'll be taking off on that adventure shortly.

Story shall be happening after I return from my expensive Leyland's tour. Editing of my anthology will happen if I have the spoons after all of that related noise.

I will

While on duty, they collapsed. They awakened to find their level 1 deathworlder friends, and their level 1 havenworlder companion, near them in the infirmary. Yet again they'd worked themselves into collapse, and kept forgetting to take their medicines that helped their body function. -- Anon Guest

One of the best-heeded portions of advice for Companions is, The Humans don't always know if they're in medical distress. Followed by the various subtle signs of distress so the Companion can be prepared. None
