The Next Venture

April 4, 2019

No matter what I did to that first computer the next time it booted it would be back to a good condition because of the floppy boot, so everyone was happy.

Our next computer a pentium 133 came with windows 95 and a whopping 1.6g hard drive.

This one would do amazing things. I started to play with it too.

My wife found that there was a great big world called the internet out there and before long she was moderating chat sites.

Now apparently some of the things I would play at messed up the windows. After some late nights of doing reinstalls to get the puter back to a functioning mode so my wife could use it again I desided not to mess with the family computer.

At the time I never realized that I was hacking.

My Computer Odyssey

March 30, 2019

Computers have fascinated me for years. Back in the early 80’s we bought our first computer. We were looking for a typewriter and found this Tandy 1000, it would do everything a typewriter would, plus we could use it for playing games and other computer things. We brought it home and set it up. We all played Kings Quest and used it as a typewriter. One day while browsing I found a couple of books for the Tandy computer, one for ms-dos and another programing in ‘basic’.

These I studied for weeks, always practising my new found skills, and marveling at the possibilities. Iwas able to write very simple programs.

Now this computer did not have a hard drive, everything was done from a floppy drive. Soon I found that it would be a good idea to have a second floppy drive so I purchased one. The salesman in the store told me it shouldn’t be hard to install so I gave it a try. Read the instructions several times and then opened the magic box. Did the install and after closing everything back up it worked! Now we had two floppy drives, one for the operating system and one for saving etc.

I now think back and thank that salesman, I have done alot inside the magic boxes since.
