Sammie’s Bunny Drive… A TeamWILL Hero’s Legacy… Sammie Hartsfield

Sammie & her Mom

Sammie Hartsfield, a very kind hearted girl, stricken with a brutal form of cancer known as Osteosarcoma, has left behind a legacy of great compassion. One thing strikes us over and over again here at TeamWILL, and that is the depth of compassion and character the preteens and teens with cancer have towards fellow cancer patients. Sammie’s life exemplified this and the 4th Annual “Sammie’s Bunny Drive,” is a reminder of her capacity for compassion for others who are suffering, even though she was in a great state of personal suffering; a level of suffering that few can truly understand and that no child should ever have to endure.

This is the first year that Sammie’s beautiful smile won’t be physically present, but the legacy of her tender heart is alive and well. Sammie’s hope was that as little children came into the hospital, to receive very difficult treatments, get poked with more needles than can be imagined, and have to endure the after effects of chemo & radiation, that they would have a little stuffed bunny that would be their soft cuddle companion to help them endure the treatments. Only a child who has undergone such treatments would have the understanding of how important this would be.

Sammie’s Bunny Drive is happening now through March 26th. If you would like to help make a simple gesture and provide hope and comfort to critically ill children by purchasing a stuffed bunny, please mail the stuffed bunny to the address below and Sammie’s family will make sure it gets into the hands of a brave, but ill child.

Much To Celebrate!!!: Hero Update on Maddie Huebner

One day after her 15th birthday, Maddie was diagnosed with neuroendocrine carcinoma at the base of her tongue. Two years of chemotherapy, radiation, surgery, and complications involving an emergency tracheotomy have taught her lessons of how to live life to the fullest. The first doctors she spoke with declared that she would never be able to speak again, but speech therapy and plenty of hard work allow her to lead a mostly “normal” life. She happily celebrated her two-year cancer-free anniversary in 2009 and will attend the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in the fall, majoring in the fields of Radiation Technology or Psychology.maddiehuebnerrides

Shelby Keiper (Official “Team Will” Princess)

shelby

We here at “Team Will Cycling”, are deeply saddened with the passing of one of our hometown heroes, Shelby McKenzie Keiper. On September 15th, Shelby attained her ultimate coronation as a princess, when her 9 month courageous battle against Astrocytoma Brain Cancer came to an end.  Today (9/27/08) was her memorial service, and it was heartbreaking, yet full of the life and joy that Shelby lived out for her six years. Shelby continues to live on and reminds us of the preciousness of life. Her life and courage also calls us to continue her fight against childhood cancers; fully and passionately.  If you wish to make a financial donation to assist the family during this tremendously difficult time, please click on Team-Will.org and then click on the donation link. Please specify “Shelby Keiper” in the “special notes box” during the donation process. 100% of your donation goes directly to assisting Shelby’s family.
