Where It Ends, It All Begins

That’s a pretty cool title for my first post, but it doesn’t really mean anything. I decided to start this blog about my life for 3 reasons. I think it will make me feel better to say everything that I’ve been thinking. I need a new hobby while my husband plays video games. And last, but not least, I know there’s got to be at least one person in this world going through the same things that I am and I want to be able to help them. With that being said, I’ll start back in January of 2013. That was 13 months ago. A coworker told me about a weight loss program at a local doctor’s office/gym in town. I’ve started every diet known to man and I’ve quit every diet I ever started, usually within a month or two. So, I asked my coworker if she would go with me to the initial weight loss meeting and she agreed. I did not want to do this alone! Being a big person gives you lots of weird complexes, but I’ll blog about that later! I weigh in for the first time, not shocked at what the scales said. Now, I’ve struggled with this. Do I want the world to know what my starting weight was? Do I want them to know what I weigh now? I’m not anywhere near my goal weight. Eh, maybe later. Ok, here’s the process: 1200 calories a day, 30 grams of protein in the morning. That’s it. No exercise…yet. Just counted my calories, made sure I got my morning protein in, and I went back to the doctor once a month for weigh ins. I know, sounds too simple. Yes, I had help with prescribed phentermine and Topamax. Phentermine is an appetite suppressant, topamax is actually a migraine medicine. The two together are a super diet pill. But, there’s one little side effect that I found out about recently. Topamax can cause cleft lip in unborn children. Since Johnny and I are trying to conceive, I’ve quit taking both pills. So, here is a list of how I have been successful at losing weight:

1. The number one, most important, very biggest thing about being able to lose weight and keep it off…you have to be ready. The day I asked my coworker to go with me to the doctor was the day I was ready.

2. Counting calories and keeping a log. My Fitness Pal is awesome!

3. Drink tons and tons of water.

4. Eat 30 grams of protein in the morning. I don’t know why, but it works.

5. Don’t eat after 7! Just don’t do it!

6. Eat fast food, just eat the heathy items. Every single restaurant serves side salads. Ditch the fries and get the greens instead. You can still get a burger, just leave off the mayo and cheese.

7. Have a free day once a month. I reward myself after my monthly weigh ins with whatever I’ve been craving really bad. After weigh in this month, I’m going to McDonald’s and getting a shamrock shake! Those things are bomb.

I think I’ve figured out what the title of this post means. My life as an extremely obese person ended and my new skinny life is beginning. In January of 2013, I stood on a scale in a doctor’s office and the number that stared back at me…well, I’m not quite ready to say, but I’ve lost 70 pounds! And I’m damn proud of myself!
