75!
Hit my all time high for books read in a year! Several reasons I would suspect…..#1 – My Nook Tablet makes reading in bed so much easier with not needing a light on in the room. #2 – Not working full time for 6 months of the year. 🙂 I’ve been slacking though the first 2 weeks of this year so who knows what 2013 will bring.
Few more updates to house
The house is so quiet
Well it’s been over 6 weeks since we moved. We just had our first official house guests. Well since we’ve actually moved and not counting my mom and Kenzie who helped us move. The Beach family stayed with us here during Spring Break but we didn’t even have furniture then! The McBrayer family from Indiana came and stayed with us. Michelle and I were college roomies (many many moons ago) and we amazingly have children the same ages/ genders. We had tons of fun (although it would have been better if V could have taken time off) and hit Clearwater Beach, Sea World, and Anna Maria Island beach. We also were able to take them to our favorite Lakeland hangout, Yogurt Mountain! It’s in the middle of this cool outdoor mall and we sat by the fountain to eat our treats. There was much chatting, hot tub time, excessive pug petting, a few margaritas, and lots of kiddo silliness. Grace tried her best sales pitches to convince them to stay longer or even for just her to move in down here. That girl LOVED Jenna and I’m sure Michelle and Greg are not hearing the end of her “I need a dog” mantra anytime soon. The days flew by and they headed for home this morning. So now the house seems extra quiet. Now we have less than 2 weeks before school starts! Yikes! I’m exhausted from the all the fun so maybe I should take advantage of the quiet and steal a nap!
Updates on the crises from the weekend: Jenna – suffered a bout of pancreatitis on Saturday. She was non-stop vomiting and it was scary. Apparently she ate something she wasn’t supposed to. We think it may have been some of the neighbors’ dog’s food. After a very expensive emergency vet visit, some meds, prescription bland food in small amounts over the past few days, she is almost back to herself. She tolerated small amounts of her own food yesterday and today so we’re getting there. Right during that crisis our AC was out and required a 700 dollar new motor. 😦 We returned from Sea World on Tuesday to find a 90 degree house again. 😦 Luckily the same company returned and fixed a broken wire and did not charge us again. 🙂 I said I didn’t mind the FL heat. Well let me clarify that I meant, “I don’t mind the FL heat WHEN THE AC IS WORKING!” 🙂
Home!
Well we’ve been here for 2 weeks. Moving truck arrived a week ago Monday in the middle of tropical storm Debby. That was a bit messy but we’re glad the driver braved the storm to bring us our stuff. Mom and I have worked our butts off painting, cleaning, organizing, and decorating. I think the transformation in just over a week is quite amazing. It feels like home. 🙂 We’ve also snuck in a few fun days (Seaworld, Clearwater Beach, and Tampa/ Tigers baseball game). The kids have made fast friends with neighbors and are both off with them now on different fun adventures (movies/ putt putt) so I think they are adjusting. Mom and Kenzie leave to go home today so I’m a bit sad. VBS is next week so I am looking forward to making some friends when I volunteer there. Still some minor things to do (minor landscaping, window treatments, rugs, organizing study, changing out chandeliers/ fireplace surround). Pictures to follow.
May / June Potpourri
There is so much going on. I can’t believe I’m actually taking time to blog about it at all. But I’m postponing the dreaded “clean/pack my closet” endeavor so I’m sure you can understand. Since my brain is barely functioning at this point, please excuse the absolute radomness and non-existence of structure to this post. Even though we’ve been preparing for this move for over 6 months, it’s now becoming more real and I waiver between excitement, sadness, nervousness, and about a 100 other emotions thrown in. Every time I see someone or go somewhere in town I keep thinking…..”Is this the last time?” The kids are doing ok. A few bouts of tears from each of them at times thinking about their friends but I know they are somewhat excited about the friends they made over spring break. One positive for sure will having the 4 of us feel like a family again. It’s just crazy being separated half the time. So here are the highlights of the past few weeks…..
Dance Recital…..Rachel did fantastic in Irish especially this year. She also did tumbling this year.
Piano Recital
Alot of baseball….
And last day of school awards. Luke won High Honor Roll, church attendance and AR points (Accelerated Reader – he got 802 points!)
Oh and I forgot Rachel’s end of year Holiday Project
Principal was retiring that day too as we had to say goodbye to so many.
Oh and My co-workers threw an amazing party for me with fantastic gifts
And of course lots of this…..ALWAYS! This pug knows how to relax!
And this week is ALL ABOUT THE PACKING!
2 Wheels!
5 years
I can’t believe it’s been 5 years without my earthly Father. Time has just sped by. I still think the hardest part is not what I’m missing but what my kids are. I grew up with so many grandparents including the best grandfather the world has ever known. And I wish that for my kids. I know he would be at every game of theirs and would take Luke fishing and all that boy stuff. There’s something about grandparents that is so special. With their unconditional love and you take out that needing to discipline element that the parents have. They have my mom and she’s spoils them and the other grandparents are in NY. Dad adored his grandkids and I just wish he was here now for them. That’s what makes me saddest.
Well I finally have something to write about…..BUT
……now I don’t have time to write anything! I’ve been in a dry spell for what to put on here in the past few months. But now that all this exciting stuff is happening, I can barely find time to keep up with the day to day stuff around the house let alone put coherent thoughts together before my eyes are shut by about 9 pm every night. Here’s the run-down.
August – I was finally offered the promotion that I applied/ interviewed for in about March. So that meant move to full-time which has been a huge adjustment. I feel like I am not doing a very good job of being a wife/ mother with the increase in hours. Less meal planning, less fun time with kids, less time with hubby. But overall the job has been going pretty well. I’ve made several changes which seem to have improved organization and efficiency. The employees seem to be happy with most of them and the feedback I’ve received from management has been very positive. There are frustrating days per usual but overall I feel good about the progress we’ve made there. However, later in August, my husband finally received a real-live offer for a job from a company he’s had dealings with for several years. They’ve always joked about him working for them but never thought he’d consider moving to Florida. Well they finally put on paper what they’ve talked about and it made us start thinking. I could tell the way he talked about it that it was a dream opportunity for him. While it wasn’t the greatest timing considering my recent job development, the fact that I wouldn’t have to work and could be a mom/ wife only for a while made us think a little more. Add into the consideration the fact that I’ve come to despise cold weather as I get older, and I was willing to keep my mind open. So he convinced me to take a trip and look around, check out housing market and visit some churches/ schools.
September – V and I went down for a long weekend. Visited Joker Marchant standium first off when we hit Lakeland. Definite contender in the reasons to live in Lakeland is the fact that the Tigers are there for Spring Training every year. We drove a ton that weekend. Most of housing communities were gated though so we couldn’t see many houses. We did tour a model home and were pretty sure we were going to build. The best part of that weekend was finding a church/ school that we felt we could call home. It was of prime importance to us that we find a Lutheran school for our children. They aren’t as easy to find in Florida as they are here. You can pretty much hit a few within a mile from anywhere up here. But we found St. Paul. We loved the contemporary worship service and and hit it off with the pastor and principal (both Valpo grads!). The school is similar size to Peace but the big difference is outdoor hallways! For a northern girl this was huge! The curriculum was fantastic, especially once you hit middle school. So we left Florida thinking a bit more seriously about the move.
October – Negotiations continued with V’s new company and they finally agreed. We did the numbers and feel that we will be ok with just his income. 🙂 We prayed a lot about it and felt nothing but peace. So by the end of them month we had agreed to make the move. We truly feel that God is the one behind this since all of it was falling into place without us really going looking for it. The kids weren’t all that excited when we told them so we made sure to remind them about all of the nearby locations for fun in Florida. 🙂
November – He started officially with Labtech and is splitting his time working from home and taking trips back and forth to Tampa. I had to tell my boss because I wanted her to have as much notice as possible. She was disappointed but incredibly supportive. By the end of the month I told the other employees as well because I do not excel at keeping secrets and knew it would slip out somewhere. We decided that we better look at existing homes before we committed to building in Lakeland. So we planned another little trip.
December – We took the kids with us this time for the first weekend in December to look at houses and try to take some of the mystery out of the whole idea for them. We also planned a visit to LegoLand to put a positive spin on the whole trip for them. 🙂 We had a real estate agent line up a bunch of houses for us and it truly was like a House Hunter’s episode. We drove from place to place. The ones we “thought” we were going to love based on pictures on internet didn’t live up to our expectations. And the one that we only saw because Mark really thought it was a good deal in a great neighborhood, ended up surprising the heck out of us. To be honest the neighbors across the street should get part of the commission. They were so friendly and it made us feel like this was the place we want our kids to grow up. We went back the next day to look more and ended up writing an offer before we left town. The kids felt more positive after the trip down there and really enjoyed the weather. After a week’s worth of haggling, we had an agreement. V took another trip down for the inspection which then instigated more haggling. We had a wonderful week of Birthdays, Christmas and all that. Then came NYE. We started what we hope is an annual tradition. We went to a hotel with 3 of our favorite Peace families for a super fun crazy night. It was a great way to end 2011. A little bittersweet to think about not seeing these families as much as we do now once we move. We’re counting on them using our place as their vacation home and then repeating the hotel stay every NYE from now on if we can manage the trip back to Michigan every year.
January – Well it’s only a week in but we’re in the midst of getting all of the paperwork in place for closing which is scheduled for the end of the month. The kids are getting more excited I think. Rachel is thrilled about planning / decorating her room. Luke can’t wait to have access to a new library since he’s exhausted his choices up here! LOL He has 318 AR points so far this school year. The goal is 40 for the year. 🙂 Makes a mama proud! We need to get going on some repairs to this house before we can list it and packing/ organizing things to clear out a bit and make it presentable.
Well I guess I finally caught things up a bit. Hopefully I can blog more regularly. It should be an interesting few months to come!
We have a DEAL!
After offer, counter offer, counter-counter offer, etc. we finally have a deal for a house in Florida! Lots of outdoor entertainment space. Even a putting green (lol)….guess we better start golfing!
Eventually (like after we sell MI house) we plan to add a pool and put in french doors from bonus room out to it. The biggest asset to this house though is the neighborhood. Amazing homes and people so friendly. Lots of kids! It was fantastic because with it being gated, the traffic is minimal and there is a big cul de sac a few houses down so I envision lots more bike and outdoor time for the kids. Rachel found a peace sign sticker on the ceiling of the room she wants so she figured that was a “sign.” We need to do some redecorating because it’s quite a bit more formal/ stuffy than is our style but that will come with time. The kitchen cabinets are high quality and the pantry and laundry room are huge. But the cherry on top is truly the master bathroom. SPA! So everyone take a look at your future vacation home! 🙂 (Oh and pray that the inspection goes through smoothly.
