Hello! Everyday I like to read a couple chapters of Psalms. Today, one of the chapters I read was sixty-three. Which states,
“O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary, beholding your power and glory. Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you. So I will bless you as long as I live; in your name I will lift up my hands. My soul will be satisfied as with fat and rich food, and my mouth will praise you with joyful lips, when I remember you upon my bed, and meditate on you in the watches of the night; for you have been my help, and in the shadow of your wings I will sing for joy. My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me. But those who seek to destroy my life shall go down into the depths of the earth; they shall be given over to the power of the sword; they shall be a portion for jackals. But the king shall rejoice in God; all who swear by him shall exult, for the mouths of liars will be stopped.” (Psalm 63:1-11 ESV)
Two verses that really stick out to me are, “When I remember you upon my bed, and meditate on you in the watches of the night; for you have been my help, and in the shadow of your wings I will sing for joy.” I love this because I am an insomniac and I have a challenging time attempting to sleep and STAYING asleep. In this time that I am vastly awake I like to thank God. I thank him for the ability to be snuggled up in a warm bed, to be surrounded by positive and influential people, the sky that has such magnificent beauty, for music that gives off radiant emotions, and so much more.
This verse also reminds me of yesterday in a way. In English class I created a power point on preacher and author Jonathan Edwards. The key section that this reminded me of him is, “meditate on you.” Edwards’ first encounter with God was when he said he was meditating on the verse 1 Timothy 1:17 (ESV). Which says, “To the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.”
This is what Jonathan had to say about his experience, “As I read the words, there came into my soul, and was as it were diffused through it, a sense of the glory of the Divine Being; a new sense, quite different from any thing I ever experienced before… I thought with myself, how excellent a Being that was, and how happy I should be, if I might enjoy that God, and be rapt up to him in heaven; and be as it were swallowed up in him for ever!”
So, my challenge for you is to take some amount of time out of your day; whether it’s five minutes or a couple hours, but to just thank God. 🙂 I hope you all are having a wonderful day!
