As often happens with blogs, life gets in the way. We’ve been hugely distracted by our impending move to our new home at Annat in Torridon, with a lot to organise, let alone all the stuff going on around the planet.

This isn’t a moan, as we’re so lucky to get this opportunity to make a fresh start, just an excuse for lack of posts. This is especially true given our post saying we were back on here was just over a year ago and we’ve only posted once since then.

Where are we now then?

Physically, still in Edinburgh pending our move by the end of October (we think). Still out and about seeing what we can come across in the city and catching up with pals whilst here.

Emotionally, our hearts are in the Highlands already. Getting any house built is very stop-start. One minute we are deep in decisions about groundworks or positioning of lights and the next, nothing seems to happen for ages. Doing it at a distance makes it harder but we have been able to get up for a few days here and there – and every time we return, we leave a bit more of our hearts behind. But, not long until it’s our home and we can really explore the wider area. We’ve already been to the Applecross, Lochcarron, Loch Ewe and Loch Broom areas, as well as locally in Torridon.

Digitally, another shuffle of the platforms we are using. We wrote about our ditching of Facebook & Instagram a while back. We are now deleting our Twitter accounts too. As we are the content, being on them meant we felt we were supporting both the dissemination of hatred, extremism & lies and also allowing our data to be harvested by large corporations for malign purposes. This only seems to get worse and what gets promoted even more extreme.

And so we are now on Mastadon and Bluesky with personal and HenniPhoto accounts.

We have also revitalised our website so that it is now our primary photo resource, under our own control. It is hosted at a reasonable cost by a reliable company in SmugMug, who understand photography and are responsive to users – they also run Flickr.

The website is a bit of a rambling space – like an old gallery with meandering corridors and obscure wee rooms to discover – but, hopefully, easily navigated via the menus and with location maps for most of the photos for those interested in where they were taken.

This blog currently runs with a free WordPress account, so a nod to Automattic for providing this for those of us with smaller requirements.

Finally, we continue to have a lot of support for what we do, selling prints and cards locally with our independent partners. We also enjoy meeting friendly folk out and about in the city. Thanks again to you all.
