Review: Falling for You Again by Kerry Lonsdale #bookreview #secondchanceromance #marriageofconvenience

Falling For You Again

Fate reunites a young woman with her ex-husband in a delightful and inspiring novel about family, old loves, and marriage on a dare by Wall Street Journal bestselling author Kerry Lonsdale.

Furniture artisan Meli Hynes still abides by her uncle’s truism: the only lasting love story is the one between artists and their creations. Having already given marriage a shot—for all of twenty-four hours during a Las Vegas fling—Meli made her choice. The wood-crafting shop that is her family legacy will always come first.

But when her uncle decides to sell to a competitor, Meli’s promised inheritance goes belly-up. She’ll do anything to muddle the deal. Including a marriage of convenience to an unforgettable and very practical old friend—the competitor’s son, Aaron. With a controlling family of his own, and every bit as impulsive as Meli, Aaron is in. After all, this isn’t the first time he and Meli got hitched on a whim.

The rules of the ruse are simple: public displays of affection and live together as happy newlyweds. The hardest rule of all? Never let real feelings get in the way of what they plan to be a purely professional second time around.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This story is a beautifully layered romance that goes far beyond the standard “marriage of convenience” trope. From the very first paragraph of the blurb, I was hooked by Meli Hynes—a passionate, fiercely independent furniture artisan whose love for her craft is as real as the wood she shapes. Her artistic heart and sense of legacy make her easy to admire, but it’s her vulnerability and determination that make her unforgettable.

One of the things I appreciated most was the positive character development throughout the story. Meli isn’t just fighting to keep her family’s woodshop—she’s grappling with a strained relationship with her parents, who don’t seem to fully understand or value her choices. That emotional undercurrent adds real depth to her motivations and makes her journey toward self-assurance all the more powerful.

Her connection with Aaron, the son of her family’s business rival (and her ex-husband from a wild Las Vegas fling!), brings both tension and tenderness to the story. Their evolving relationship is full of charm, witty dialogue, and some genuinely touching moments. I especially loved the cute interactions between Meli and her cat, which offered sweet, often funny glimpses into her softer side and grounded the story in delightful everyday realism.

I found myself truly relating to the characters—their flaws, their hopes, and their complicated family dynamics. Aaron is a perfect complement to Meli: practical yet impulsive in his own right, navigating his own controlling family while falling into a surprisingly genuine partnership with her.

This is more than a love story—it’s about loyalty, identity, and rediscovering the strength to fight for what you love, whether that’s a family legacy, a forgotten dream, or a second chance with the right person. Highly recommend for anyone who enjoys a heartfelt, funny, and emotionally rich romance with just the right amount of slow burn and spark.

#review Just the Nicest Family by Alison James @bookouture @alisonjbooks

They seemed like the perfect family. But their secrets are about to come out…

I push open the door to the beautiful French villa and my clever, handsome husband and adorable wide-eyed children follow me inside, taking in the breath-taking view. This should be a blissful summer break, filled with sun, swimming and relaxation but the truth is very different.

Because my husband has just revealed the real reason we’re here.

When our friends staying at the sprawling villa greet us on the sun-soaked terrace, I smile brightly and attempt to calm my nerves. If I can just behave normally, everything will be fine. But if any one of the people sitting around the clear, blue pool discovers the truth my whole world could be shattered.

So I have to pretend we’re the perfect family and I’m the perfect wife – all the while knowing that our lies could destroy us.

If our secrets begin to unravel, how far will my husband and I go to protect them? And will two weeks in the sun end in murder…?

My Review

What happens when the perfect family carries a secret from years ago? Maybe they aren’t so perfect after all.

This book reminded me of a reverse bell curve. It started out really good, took a slow turn, then ended on a high note. The story was unique and unpredictable.

While I enjoyed the story, at times the main characters, Tim and Louise, irritated me. What started out as what seemed to be strong individuals, their persona changed and I viewed them as weak.

This is a quick read, written very well. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed.

Audiobook Review: Find Me in California by Kerry Lonsdale @kerrylonsdale

An achingly romantic novel about chance meetings, buried secrets, and the multiple facets of love and family bonds by Wall Street Journal bestselling author Kerry Lonsdale.

Raised by her fiercely passionate and free-spirited grandmother, Julia Hope has never gone without love. But as she tends to her only living relative during her final days, Julia struggles to overcome her fear of being alone.

A thousand miles away, Matt Gatlin has managed to avoid the coldhearted grandmother with whom he once lived. But after twelve years of her being blessedly out of sight, she needs him. His resentments still raw, Matt packs up his car and reluctantly heads to California to confront a bitter past he thought was long gone.

Over the next six days, Julia’s and Matt’s fates intersect. An old diary exposes the tragedy of a long-lost love. A history of secrets in two families comes to light. And on a lonely back road, Matt picks up an unusual yet captivating hitchhiker with a secret of her own.

For Julia and Matt, something heartbreaking and heartwarming, mysterious and beautiful, will touch their lives—with neither of them realizing that maybe they’re destined for each other.

My Review:

Find Me in California is the newest novel from one of my favorite authors, Kerry Lonsdale. I had the opportunity to listen to the audiobook and found the book to be a fantastic story.

At first the narrator’s (Amanda Leigh Cobb) voice didn’t resonate well with me, so it took me a couple of chapters to really get into the story. After the slow start, however, I couldn’t stop listening.

Kerry is a very talented writer. While this isn’t my favorite book of hers, it’s a great summer read, with just enough mystery to keep you guessing. Not to give any spoilers, but the reason for the lower rating is because of an experience the Matt has about a quarter of the way through. Maybe it’s because I was listening to the book and not actually reading it, but I found myself questioning and not really understanding what was happening. Answers are eventually revealed, but I didn’t enjoy the section nonetheless.

Overall, the book is very entertaining and well written. The story is unique and unpredictable, which is always a plus.

Overall, I’d rate the book a 3.5.

A very special thank you to the publisher for an advanced copy.

My Review:

Crave is the perfect title for this novella by Chelle Bliss. When the two main characters meet for the first time, that’s the perfect word to describe the attraction…pure and hopelessly crave.

The chemistry is instant and undeniable. Even though neither Tate nor Wylder are looking for anything when they lay eyes on each other, they can’t deny the attraction and connection that’s felt.

Given this is a novella, the read is quick and just sexy enough to get your juices flowing. Even better, it’s a prequel to the full story of this match which means their story is just beginning!

I absolutely loved this book and would rate it spicy and one not to miss!

My Review

The Holiday is the newest psychological thriller by John Nicholl. Picture this…a husband and wife go on a much needed holiday to a tropical getaway. However it is completely paid for by her, the husband holding so much resentment that the result is a bitter and toxic relationship. Almost from the beginning of the book, the author lays out the characteristics of the couple. The husband is a despicable jerk, with complete disrespect for Susie (his wife). Susie tries to hold all her senses about her, with the authors generating a sense of sympathy.

The book starts right in and moves quickly throughout. The writing is spot on, leaving nothing to the untouched. It is written from the pov of the wife and husband, which adds that much more insightful mess into the inner thoughts.

My favorite thing about the author’s writing is that he’s not timid about showing the true evilness of a character. He has a way of drawing you in, and at times leaves you with your jaw dropped in disbelief.

If you’re looking for a quick-reading, psychological thriller, look no further than The Holiday.

Releasing: October 12, 2023

Cover Design: Silver Grace, Bitter Sage Designs

Illustrated Cover Design: Staci Hart

If I had to choose a person to hate, Alex Ramírez would’ve been first on the list…

Welcome to Honey Creek, Illinois, where life was as sweet as the town’s name suggested. That was, until Mr. Fine Dining himself, Alex Ramírez, rolled into town with a permanent scowl and decided to park his snooty five-star restaurant across from my cozy dog daycare. He was tall, dark, and about as warm as a frozen entrée.

After one too many unpleasant interactions, I was determined to stay out of his way and to keep him out of mine.

But fate had a quirky sense of humor. When Alex inherited his great-aunt’s cranky canine, he had no choice but to come to me, the local dog whisperer, for help. As for me? I needed a fake boyfriend to ward off my ex-husband, who was determined to win me back.

So, we struck a deal: I’d turn his dog into the town’s best-behaved pet, and in return, he’d be my arm candy for a few family events and social gatherings. Simple, uncomplicated, and absolutely not romantic—at least, that was what we told ourselves.

As we played house, I couldn’t help but notice that underneath Alex’s prickly shell was a dash of charm that wasn’t listed in the ingredients. Our pretend dates started to feel a little too real. And our feigned kisses? They were getting laughably close to crossing the line. Suddenly our interactions felt less like a food fight and more like foreplay.

With every playful touch and lingering glance, I couldn’t help but wonder: Was this fake relationship with Alex secretly penning its own authentic ending? Or was I risking it all for something that was nothing more than make-believe?

My Review

I’m a big fan of Carly Schabowski’s books. Her latest novel, The Postcard, is different from her other books, and one I thoroughly enjoyed.

The story revolves around Mia who is visiting her grandmother in the hospital. While there, her grandmother asks for a man unknown to Mia. However, while staying in her grandmother’s apartment, she uncovers a postcard with the mystery man’s name. At that point, Mia is filled with questions and vows to uncover the truth.

I love how this book is written from the different characters’ points of view. Not only does it make the story that much more interesting, it provides insights that may not otherwise be revealed.

One of the biggest reasons I’m a fan of the author’s books is because they are based on true stories. She thoroughly researches the subject at hand and makes it her own story that is not only entertaining, but heartbreaking as well. While I may never know what it was like for the victims and survivors of the Holocaust, reading her books brings me one step closer…

#blogtour #review Two’s Company at the Forest Light Show by Margaret Amatt @rararesources @amattauthor

One night, one second chance, and a love story waiting to happen

Vivacious forestry worker Cha Gilchrist doesn’t usually have flings with buttoned-up guys who dress like her old geography teacher, no matter how secretly attractive she finds them. But she makes one exception; after all, she’ll never see the guy again…

Reserved Nick Harkness is used to people thinking he’s dull – better that than having them discover his secrets. But his carefully constructed life is cracked open when the blue-haired goddess he chanced an uncharacteristic fling with appears in his office and gives the perfect interview for a woodland management job. Nick has no option but to hire her.

Working together on the Glenbriar Forest Light Show, Nick and Cha uncover corruption at the heart of the organising committee, but under their professional façade, a burning attraction simmers. As they attempt to expose the truth, they can’t ignore the intensity of their feelings.

Pursuing her boss is a risky step, even for daring Cha, but if Nick’s secrets come to light, then his position in the company might be the least of their problems.

Margaret is a Scottish author and chocolate lover who has been writing stories for over twenty years (possibly more if you count her primary school efforts). My Review:

This is the first book of read by author Margaret Amatt, and won’t be my last. The book is fun and romantic with a little bit of mystery.

Given this book is not the first in the series I was a little worried that I was going to have a hard time following, however, it can easily be a stand alone book. Going in blindly, I was able to follow all the characters. Now I will just need to go back and read the previous books!

While the book was a fun read, I felt it was also a little superficial. The main character had a shady past, but it was only dealt with at the surface, and only occasionally brought up.

While the story was predictable from the very beginning, I enjoyed it. Sometimes you need a book where there isn’t a lot of thinking, just lighthearted and quaint. This book is exactly that.

My Review:

All Good Things is a terrific fiction novel by Amanda Prowse. Told by multiple points of view, it is the story of two families living next door to each other. One is a blue-collar working family, while the other is very affluent. But is everything as it seems?

The book started a little slow but as the story unfolded I became more vested. At the half way point I was able to fly to the finish. It ended up being a book I thoroughly enjoyed.

The writing was impeccable. It’s evident why the author has had numerous amounts of best sellers.

Highly recommend this book that is highly entertaining and make you wonder: what really goes on behind closed doors…?

#blogtour #review Another Place Another Time by Jo Lovett @rararesources

Has someone ever come into your life and you thought, what if you’d had the chance to get to know one another better? Would we be together?

When Liv finds herself locked in a shed with handsome stranger Ben (after both trying to rescue the same cat), the instant connection they make feels like fate had a hand in it. Has Liv finally found her perfect match?

But everything about the timing means there’s no way they can be together. Not least because Ben has a girlfriend and Liv is moving to Paris the next day.

Over the coming years their paths weave in and out of each other’s lives – together, but always fleetingly.

If only they could stop missing each other, who knows what fate may have in store for them…

#blogtour #review The Corner Shop in Cockleberry Bay by Nicola May @rararesources

The Corner Shop in Cockleberry Bay

Rosa Larkin is down on her luck in London, so when she inherits a near-derelict corner shop in a quaint Devon village, her first thought is to sell it for cash and sort out her life. But nothing is straightforward about this legacy. While the identity of her benefactor remains a mystery, he – or she – has left one important legal proviso: that the shop cannot be sold, only passed on to somebody who really deserves it.

Rosa makes up her mind to give it a go: to put everything she has into getting the shop up and running again in the small seaside community of Cockleberry Bay. But can she do it all on her own?

And if not, who will help her succeed – and who among the following will work secretly to see her fail?

There is a handsome rugby player, a sexy plumber, a charlatan reporter and a selection of meddling locals. Add in a hit and run incident and the disappearance of a valuable engraved necklace – and what you get is a journey of self-discovery and unpredictable events.

With surprising and heartfelt results, Rosa, accompanied at all times by her little sausage dog Hot, will slowly unravel the shadowy secrets of the inheritance, and also bring her own, long-hidden heritage into the light

My Review

This was a cute first book of the series. The main character, Rosa, was a fresh change from the typical ‘rom-com’ stories. She’s a little hard around the edges and brutally honest, almost to a fault.

While the story was a little predictable, I still enjoyed the journey of Rosa and her daschund Hot. There were a lot of characters to keep straight, but some created side stories that I so enjoyed. The mystery elements were also intriguing.

Overall the book was the perfect summer read and I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

#blogtour The Last Wife by J.A. Baker @rararesources @thewriterjude

The Last Wife

Welcome to Winters End…

Winters End should have been the perfect place for me and my husband Neil to start again. To leave the terrible secrets and guilt of our past far behind us.

But from the moment we arrived in the small, isolated community, it becomes clear to me that we are not welcome here. That someone wants us to leave…

I’m certain that everyone knows our secrets – knows who we really are. But how can that be?

Perhaps it’s my mind playing tricks on me. Just like before.

I know Neil thinks I’m paranoid. My thoughts spiralling. Again. If only I had someone else to talk to. Another woman to confide in.

And that’s when I realise something far more terrifying.

I am the only wife at Winters End…and I could be the last…
