Falling For You Again
Fate reunites a young woman with her ex-husband in a delightful and inspiring novel about family, old loves, and marriage on a dare by Wall Street Journal bestselling author Kerry Lonsdale.
Furniture artisan Meli Hynes still abides by her uncle’s truism: the only lasting love story is the one between artists and their creations. Having already given marriage a shot—for all of twenty-four hours during a Las Vegas fling—Meli made her choice. The wood-crafting shop that is her family legacy will always come first.
But when her uncle decides to sell to a competitor, Meli’s promised inheritance goes belly-up. She’ll do anything to muddle the deal. Including a marriage of convenience to an unforgettable and very practical old friend—the competitor’s son, Aaron. With a controlling family of his own, and every bit as impulsive as Meli, Aaron is in. After all, this isn’t the first time he and Meli got hitched on a whim.
The rules of the ruse are simple: public displays of affection and live together as happy newlyweds. The hardest rule of all? Never let real feelings get in the way of what they plan to be a purely professional second time around.
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This story is a beautifully layered romance that goes far beyond the standard “marriage of convenience” trope. From the very first paragraph of the blurb, I was hooked by Meli Hynes—a passionate, fiercely independent furniture artisan whose love for her craft is as real as the wood she shapes. Her artistic heart and sense of legacy make her easy to admire, but it’s her vulnerability and determination that make her unforgettable.
One of the things I appreciated most was the positive character development throughout the story. Meli isn’t just fighting to keep her family’s woodshop—she’s grappling with a strained relationship with her parents, who don’t seem to fully understand or value her choices. That emotional undercurrent adds real depth to her motivations and makes her journey toward self-assurance all the more powerful.
Her connection with Aaron, the son of her family’s business rival (and her ex-husband from a wild Las Vegas fling!), brings both tension and tenderness to the story. Their evolving relationship is full of charm, witty dialogue, and some genuinely touching moments. I especially loved the cute interactions between Meli and her cat, which offered sweet, often funny glimpses into her softer side and grounded the story in delightful everyday realism.
I found myself truly relating to the characters—their flaws, their hopes, and their complicated family dynamics. Aaron is a perfect complement to Meli: practical yet impulsive in his own right, navigating his own controlling family while falling into a surprisingly genuine partnership with her.
This is more than a love story—it’s about loyalty, identity, and rediscovering the strength to fight for what you love, whether that’s a family legacy, a forgotten dream, or a second chance with the right person. Highly recommend for anyone who enjoys a heartfelt, funny, and emotionally rich romance with just the right amount of slow burn and spark.
