To be clear – following ICE to document their activities is not “obstruction” and there is no law against “stalking” ICE agents if that means following them. As the woman said, they never got in front of ICE agents and they always kept their distance. It doesn’t matter that they were “repeatedly warned” to stop following the agents. This was false arrest – one among many. This will likely result in hundreds of thousands of dollars coming out of that ICE budget. But what’s more important for people to hear is the story about what they observed once in the detention center. They were of course released without charges.

Spoiler – he’s no longer a Trump supporter, but still believes in the concept of MAGA. 60,000 Trump voters voted for Mamdani. It’s not huge. But progressives in the Democratic Party have work to do. Sheriff Honsal sat down for an interview with an alleged reporter of the Epoch Times, a far right media propaganda machine originating with a religious opposition group in China. It embraces right wing conspiracy theories; extreme nationalism; and racist groups in Europe, and of course MAGA. It’s very similar to RT. They filed and lost a lawsuit against a New England newspaper for reporting on the January 6 conspiracy theories they had been promoting – the defense to defamation being the court findings that the newspaper’s reporting was true (an absolute defense to defamation). It has been accused of money laundering, but don’t expect the current regime to press charges.

I haven’t watched it yet, but the alleged cartels were brought up in his vehement opposition to Measure K eight years ago. I’m wondering if this interview is a harbinger of ICE coming to Humboldt County.
