Barah Bhawana as the name suggests explains 12 emotions which help us understand this sansar and also assists in developing disinterest towards this sansaar.
The list of 12 bhawnas is as followed:-
- Anitya Bhawna
This means – chahe koi bhi ho, raja, shehenshah aur chahe kitne bhi bade shoorveer ho – sabko hi marna padta hain – there is no way that they can remain nitya or amar or eternal – this basically means nothing is permanent and also nothing will live for ever. Everyone will die one day and it all will come to an end. Whatever you have achieved will also end with you. There is a time and turn for everyone to do so but its definite that nothing is NITYA. This is called Anitya Bhawna!
- Asaran Bhawna
This means – chahe koi bhi ho is sansaar mein koi bhi rakshak nahi hota. Chahe kitna bhi dal aur bal ho – sena and Samarth ho ya koi devi devta ho siddh ho – koi saran nahi de sakta. When you have to die, no one will save you nothing will come to your rescue, you will die for sure. No parents, no dr not even the GOD will be able to save. When your time has come – you have to go. So the only thing that’s important is the time you have spent in your atma kalyan and it will be the only saran for you, nothing else. – This is called Asaran Bhawna.
- Sansaar Bhawna
This means that this sansaar is full of Dukh and Dukhis. There is no one in this universe that is happy – people who have no money are dukhi due to lack of money and for want of money and the people who have money and rich have trishna/laalach for want of more and more money. This keeps them dukhi all the time. Sukh to tabhi milega when you stop running after money and wealth. Also the craving for money needs to stop if you want sukh otherwise there is nothing but Dukh. This is called Sansaar Bhawna..
- Ekatva Bhawna
This means we have come alone in this sansaar due to our own karma and will go alone due to our own karma. There is nothing that is our own in this world/sansaar but our aatma. Hamara koi saathi saga nahi hain. Jo hamare saath hain aur jinhe hum apna maante hain – who hamaari aatma ken ahi hote par hamari paryay/ shareer ke hote hain. Hamare mata pita mata sab shareer ke hain – aatma ka koi nahi hain.
- Anyatva bhawna
This means that sab kuch apni aatma ke anya hain, bhinn hain. Hamara ghar, hamare parivar yaha tak apna shareer bhi alag hain. Apni aatma ko apne shareer se taka lag dekhne ka naam hi anyatva bhawna hain. Jab apna shareer hi apna nahi hain to aur koi kya hoga – bas aatma hi ek apni hain.
- Asuchi bhawna
This relates to our shareer/body. Our body is nothing but a cover on our aatma, due to the skin or cover or chamadi on our body – it looks so good or mohvaan but andar dekhoge to ye bahut hi ganda hota hain (wohi reality hain) bahut hi ganda hain. If you look properly, this body/shareer is ugliest in the whole world. Just because of the cover of our skin, this body looks beautiful but to look inside it is called the Asuchi bhawna.
- Aasrava Bhawna
This relates to the aasrav of karma. ( you will need to understand the reason of aasrav to understand this properly) however I will try. Karmo ka aasrav nirantar karte hue hum moh roopi neend mein pade rehte hain. Is kaaran karma hame hamesha pareshaan karte hain. This relates to our aatma which is anant sukhi but karma hame yeh realise nahi karne dete kyunki ham uski moh rupi neend mein so rahe hote hain .
Iska literal meaning aisa hain ki hum apne moh ke vash mein hokar upar ki paanch bhawana ko bhool jaate hain.
This is relates to stopping of karma. Again aasrav is karmo ka aana aur samvar is karmo ka rukna. Ye karmo ka bandhna kaise rukega ? – jab koi Guru ya sat guru hame moh rupi neend se jagayega aur hame samjhayega to hamari moh neend thodi kam hogi ya upshamit hogi tab hi kuch upaay banega. Yahi upaay hain karmo ko rokne ka jab aap moh rupi neend se jagenge aur thoda bahut usko bandhane se rokenge. Nirantar guru ke updesh ko sunne se aisa ho sakta hain.
- Nirjara bhawna
This is the final step after samvar. So there are four steps of karma – Aasrav, bandh, samvar and Nirjara ( karmo ka aana – aasrav, karmo ka aakar bandhna – bandh, karmo ka rukna – samvar aur karmo ka mitna – nirjara).
Jab aapko gyaan milega to aap tap karoge usse aapko prakash milega aur us prakash se aap apne ghar yaani apni aatma ko dekhenge to hamara brahm chutega aur apni aatma se bandhe hue purane karma katenge. – this is the literal meaning of this phrase but it means that the way to karma nirjara is to attain knowledge, which that knowledge you do tap and tyaag. This will enlighten you further and bring you towards your atma which will also lead to nirjara of old karma that you have tied in the past lives and this life.
Now how to do the tap/tyag in the next bhawna… that is also part of Nirjara Bhawna
So you the way to Nirjara is five mahavrat, Five samiti and paanch prabal indri par vijay (to against your own five senses) will lead to nirjara.
This is very advanced stage but I will try to explain in easy language. Jinendra means a person who has won his indri (5 senses) – The way to win these senses are taking mahavrat as explained in aagam and also to follow five rules that are called samitis.
- Lok Bhawna
This relates to the map of teen lok again – the map of teen lok is just like a human being body when his hands are on his waste and legs are spread apart. This body shape is similar to teen lok ka map. This is 14 raju uuncha, 343 cube raju wide hain. This is the lok and it has anant jeev jo bhraman kar rahe hain kyunki unke paas gyaan ka aabhav hain.
- Durlabh bhawna
This relates to the sukh that you think are sukh are all sulabh not durlabh. Means they are all easily attainable but right knowledge (samyak gyaan) is rare sukh that is durlabh to attain.
- Dharam Bhawna
This relates to dharam bhawana that means you have to work hard to get anything but dharam is the only thing that you can attain Sukh with – without asking for it and working hard for it. Dharam will give you sukh without asking…
