Writer – Consultant – Translator

Welcome to Laura’s Page

I am a writer, editor, teacher, writing consultant, and literary translator. I am the author of four books, which include two short story collections, a book of linked essays, and a story cycle (a novel in stories). My fiction and nonfiction focuses on generational trauma, and on the search for love and connection that people haunted by loneliness and isolation seek, often in vain. I translate prose and poetry from Italian and Spanish, and I write articles about writing and teaching creative writing in higher education. You can read my short stories, essays, and translations online and in print in Conjunctions, South85, The Forge, Hunger Mountain, Glimmer Train, Assay, PRISM, V.I.A., and many others. You can read my critical essays and reviews in Writing & Pedagogy, The Journal of College Composition & Communications, and Creative Writing Pedagogy. I founded and edited a literary journal titled Wraparound South in 2014 that I managed until 2022. I am presently a Professor of creative writing in the Department of English at Georgia Southern University. I’m available for readings, speaking engagements, and individual manuscript consultations upon request: contact me via LInkedIn. Visit my author’s Facebook page for updates on my publications.

Runaway Books

My books travel. Whether for business or vacation, whenever I’m out of town, I leave one of my darlings in the wild with a special dedication for whoever will find it. Did you find one of my traveling babies? Send me a note and let me know where and how.
